When Top gun Maverick came to the big screen. It was shot on CineAlta in 4k. When you go see it at movie theater you will see the introduction of film grain. Some shots where digitally cropped/reframed. Anyone said anything? No, because the story outweighs the 1080p/4k/6k/8k original capture recording.

Thank you for pointing out the artifacting caused by the Fuji Xtrans sensor. Note that it gets worse when you apply any computational correction in post processing.

the R has such a nice image in log! It's still the most underrated camera imo, unless you need fullframe 4k or 60fps in 4k. As a photography camera it's perfect. 30mpx is the sweet spot.

I ADORE Mike Lane! His knowledge of birds is remarkable. Still I think he might have made a mistake going with OM-1 instead of a1. But I get the reasons. He got best optical performance and ultimate reach without the use of additional converter. And he has 50fps with great AF as opposed to 30fps. And he got pro capture. I would have chosen better IQ of cropped image, 8K video, and better slow motion. But he had different priorities. He now uses GH6 just for video. It is easier to swap bodies on a tripod than to swap lenses without a tripod.

As someone who switched from Panny to Sony and back to Panny, the grass is greener on Sony’s side of the fence, yet here I am. Can’t explain it. Just something about the image.

I have a Nikon 5200. The grip is so well designed that with a typical zoom lens you can release all fingers except the middle one and shake your hand, and the camera will still not fall. It is laughing at how many years it will take the Fuji grip to get to its level.

This is the fucking best photography hardware channel. EDIT: I want a Sony full frame camera with a Pentax "green" button, a healthy lens ecosystem of only-good lenses and get rid of all of the garbagey cheap lenses that are magically only as big as MFT lenses, olympus live-comp/time/digital ND functions, self explanatory menu system, instasuperfast wake from off/sleep, and fuji color science. Had Canon made R5C EXACTLY like R5, but added the damn cooling system; they’d have the perfect camera. Instead they added Cinema software which actually restricted what it could do even more and neutered it. every individual has their own needs and free to use any camera they deem suitable for them. i sometimes ponder, if camera are there only to be compared spec or the capture precious moments which are dearest to us as human or as photographers.

Try an old Canon C100, the WDR profile is very good, small files, good colors and easy fast work flow. The 1080p on that camera is really good.

7:29 you're often mentioning 3D pop but when you switch to 4K there's more of it IMO, thanks to a better separation between what's in focus (eyes) and what's not (almost everything else) Note: I'm watching on a high res laptop screen, and yes that crop is silly.

Would you really want to shoot in 10bit on the EOS R with an external recorder for your studio work when that will force you into 4K with the 1.745 crop? The FHD footage from the EOS R looks so much better now with the 24mm f1.4 lens, however, those blue-blacks in C Log cannot be unseen now that you have pointed them out.

Kasey, I own and use a Z6. I can confirm that what you tested at Henry's was a malfunctioning unit, guaranteed. There is no way that a Z6 puts out that ridiculously crappy image. It was either a lens issue, or something wrong with the camera body itself. It may not be at par with Sony and Canon AF, but common, the image quality is not what you experienced, I promise you.

When are you going to try the Canon R7 and the RF 100-500? I want to see your squirrels and ducks and maybe a kingfisher or turtle through that setup and see how it compares to all the last cameras you used in those scenarios.

Have you considered getting a camera monitor? I know it's more weight but the ability to nail manual focus with a bit more ease might make it worth it when shooting wildlife.

anyone looking at colour (color) must first realize that the screen and the setup of that screen will always be a gamble. Colour (color) in videoland mixed with people's personal pref and ability to actually see subtle changes means most users will be working from a 'my favorite look' perspective. There are products like Flanders Scientific panels etc that can be a standard of sorts but nothing in this world is easy. Your lighting, room paint, ability to calibrate - understanding the way TVs and monitors mess in and out of curves before your eyes get it. Its 2023 soon why cant we have 'the same red' on the things we all look at every day. Consensus at a lower level even at the very least.

I grew up watching movies on VHS, 1080p is still magic to me. 4K is unnecessary IMO.

That would be rad if Lane switched from a Sony to an OM-1n film camera. It’s a much lighter camera. It’s all mechanical, so it doesn’t need a battery. There’s no confusing menus. You don’t need to spend money every month on LightRoom to edit your photos, instead you build a darkroom. There’s no wandering focus issues and no weird digital artifacts in low light. No rolling shutter issues, either (due to it being a stills camera). I think the OM-1 film cameras would be a great choice for both photographers and also RU-vid content creators (that I wish would stop creating video content).

Yes you need a ninja v. that's how you do exposure with the false color get your face grey. sometimes need to dial in the exposure compensation to get it right. I have my sony used as a webcam with studio lights. sometimes I dial the brightness, then have to use exposure comp to get my face grey on both sides. then do a custom white balance. Ninja does all the monitoring that the sony doesn't. it is a great sound recorder too if you need. I use the xlr or a plantronics head set which works perfecto.

The only way I'd leave Panasonic is for a Nikon z9. Nothing on the market touches that camera in any way. But I don't have $20,000 to get the set up I would want.

Mike Lane is a cool guy. He’s just not a videographer so his choices mean nothing for you. Weight is not an issue as both the A1+200-600 and OM-1+150-400 are virtually the same dimensions and weight. You wouldn’t notice the difference really. And using both Incan tell you the Oly kit os marginally sharper and gets more bird shots in focus than the current A1 for the highly skilled shooter. For a newbie I’d give the Full Frame an advantage for learning however. And the cost is about the same. Mike likes the other features of the Olympus that for some stupid reason Sony refuses to incorporate. I don’t know why not but it’s obviously not hurting them so I live with it. The 300/4 on OM-1 vs A9ii and A1 and 200-600 is again slightly in the Olympus favor for pixel peeping sharpness. So long as video is not a thing. If video is a thing why would you ever consider Olympus? Maybe someday they will get with the program assuming the new company survives. I hope they do but I am not a prophet. They require profits. Not prophets. 😅 we will see. And thanks for the great entertainment that still lets me learn and ponder a bit. You are not like anyone else in this space.

If you have an extensive system, you should not change prematurely. I switched 8 years ago. At that time I asked myself the question: Which system would I choose today if I started photographing? For me, the answer was SONY. I have never regretted it.

I started out with an S1H I bought at a good price from becextech but I returned it after seeing an S1H vs a7s3 dynamic range/sharpness test. I didn't like the softness/AA filter look on the S1H. Off course I was also swayed by AF and the lens offerings. I couldn't have made my good decisions without you guys. Much appreciation. I have only the second string G sony lens, like the 35mm 1.8 thanks to Undone and you. Why though are you so concerned about 3d pop to the extent that you have to have Leica/Zeiss? Properly exposed the difference is unseeable, especially with your 1080p shooting. . I don't think I am a shlub about it, difference is sub-subtle, not there. Move on I think. and yes you need a good computer. for not a lot of money you get a rig with an NVidia GPU RTX 3070 or higher for 4k editing. Stop complaining about uneditable codec and get a new computer. Can't wait for the a7s4. meanwhile lots to learn about my sony as is.

Nikon has bad video quality but good pictures. I love my d80. Wonderful ccd sensor. Maybe they have declined. Nikon was one of the first to offer he video on a camera (D90). I have a Sony cybershot and a canon power shot. Powershot is pretty good though!

Just watched a MarkusPix video. Yes, I can confirm that 1080p is indeed enough. Anything more is hideous.

Shutter angle that is extremely off is never a good idea. But in 120p it is rarely too much light. 1/1000s instead of 1/250p will be barely noticable. But anything less than 45 degree shutter angle starts to looks strange even in slow motion.

if you want to do a comparison with superscaling, you should render 2 clips and then combine them in avidemux using copy save so that it doesn't reencode any more than what youtube does.

I was a Canon user for 20+yrs! I switched to mirrorless with the original R, then a R6. I purchased every budget RF lens & broke my bank account buying the RF28-70! I waited for years hoping they would allow 3rd party RF lenses. I also own a Fuji XT3, it’s great for walk around family photos but not dependable for anything else. I recently sold my entire Canon system to MPB & plan on buying a Sony system. Do I go A73, 4 or 5? I’m not a working professional but occasionally I do earn money from friends or families that want portraits. I’m also looking at the A7C. Low light is a must! I enjoy watching! Thanks
