That young lady is simply a drumming machine...love learning from her. I believe Yoyoka has the best technique I've seen in my 58 years on the planet and 44 odd years playing myself.
Who would have thought a 13 years old Japanese girl would be the kick-ass drummer at Wiskey A Go-Go??? I've been watching this kid since her first RU-vid video years ago. Unbelievable!
Thanks for posting this! I'm a huge Yoyoka fan and this was a particularly exciting gig 🙂. It's pretty wild to think that this is about as close as you can get to having Ian Piace join you onstage as possible, if his assessment is anything to go by.
Thumbs-up, if only because this is exactly what this young woman needs. (And some studio work!) Not that she hasn't gigged in Japan and elsewhere, but sitting in with "Derek Day and the Nights", pulling their asses out of the Fire of Deep Purple's "Burn" is the kind of thing to temper her Hanzo-style drumming chops. I saw another longer post of this set (Burn & The Ocean) where dude is whipping out some nice licks and he and the bassist are having a great time being on stage while Yoyoka is slogging it out, keeping them in time. This is an "interesting" video-edit but someone needs to start plugging into the soundboard, AND SOON, to capture her early L.A. shows. The quality of the cover recordings done in the USA are seriously below all of those from over a year ago, Made in Japan. These live gigs have the potential to write such an amazing chapter in her story of growing into her fullness-of-being. Yoyoka is already LEGEND, her LEGACY is what follows. Don't let it sound like shit because fans (or FAM) are too shy to ask the sound guys to let them plug straight in. Video all you want. Just get the mix too, so it can be a testament down the road.
I just shot this on my iphone 13 pro max. It's startlingly good sound. I was lucky they let me get as close to the stage as I was. Normally the area I was in is just for the real photographers.
Absolutely agree. The early days can't be lost in the void of substandard recording. We have too much of that from the early greats. Never again Yoyoka deserves top treatment

Hi, I reposted the video with all the correct info. I read that the algorithm of youtube is negatively affected when you change the title or tags (which I have done). I don't know if it will work, but it would be great if more people could see this phenomenal performance.
Thanks for posting this! You might get more views with YOYOKA's name in the title. And the band's name. She has played with this guitarist on the "Creative World" show before. His Name is Derek Day. He is in a band called "Classless Act", although I don't know if this is the band or not. Might be other musicians. Thanks again!

I know some of YOYOKA's fans keep a search page open all the time for anything with her name in it. Apparently not as many as I thought. Classless act has opened for Joan Jett, Poison, Mötley Crüe, and Def Leppard. And you probably know how famous YOYOKA is. Both of them easily get 10K-100K views when they post on their channels. I guess we can't all draw numbers that big...lol Thanks again!

It may have been mic'd great - I was just recording on my phone - in a crowded room so getting different angles would have been great but nearly impossible.
During the last Zoom call she said the snare was tuned too tight for liking but as saw on the other videos she posted there is only time for a few quick tom and cymbal angle adjustments.
Wow, this brings back memories !!!!! Many years ago I saw The Doors there. I want to say it was 1967. There is just something right about Yoyoka playing at that mecca of music. I've been following her for about 6 years now and it's impossible to be thrilled and enthralled by her performances.
I just hope Yoyoka and her family are having FUN. After all. LA, heck the Music biz sucks now, it's tough and now that Yoyoka is a wizened old pro (been following her since she was 5) she really is just another good drummer in LA now. The "kid" gimmick is long gone. Doing covers is okay but not a career. Maybe she does what Tony Royster Jr ended up doing - clinics and such. Check Tony at age 7 for reference. I just hope she doesn't get her heart broken TOO much and that she finds a niche in the business before she ultimately goes back home to Japan with a lifetime of memories. 🌼
