Genuinely excited for you to experience Ys VIII. You'll see a lot of similar design elements that were put to much better use, as far as map expansion and tower defense (optional).
Playing it right now. So far not that much connected with the main cast but the story is very intriguing. Side quests, as you said, build up the personality of Balduq. SO EASY IN NORMAL MODE!
I think if more JRPGs had easier difficulty settings they would be way more popular. I think the only time a modern game should make you grind is if its for a specific piece of gear or outfit.
I have the Switch version. So I bought the collector’s edition seeing as I couldn’t get the ps4 version and the performance upgrade is nice. Plus the collectability.
You haven't playede Ys 7 and 8? You missed out big. 8 is as good as everyone says, just started playing it this week. 7 is the one who basically introduced the mechanics every main line game used since then. Like the four attack slots and Flash Guard. It's a little dated, especially compared to Ys 8 and 9 but it's still a lot of fun. But most of all, 7 has an amazing story.
I definitely love Ys I, but still haven't dove into seriously playing the franchise as a whole. I wish the classic games were on Switch---at least up through the 16 bit era
@@Greatsharkbite nothing spectacular a more stable frame rate and some barely noticeable coloring load times are better but overall not a huge difference than the ps4 update
@@MixMasterLar I’ve been playing the PS5 version and the frame rate is drastically better. I haven’t hit any frame drops in the areas that had issues in the PS4 version running on PS5. The texture resolution seems higher but I didn’t play super far into the PS4 version to notice for sure. It feels more stable overall but I’m not sure how much is the PS5 VRR and how much is the upgrade.
