I only started playing this series at Ys 8, but the combat looks more interesting than 8/9 to me. Looking forward to trying it. Thanks for the preview!
looking foward to this game. gonna miss being able to roll and dash across the map though. will adol be able to swim in this game? because he couldn't in 9.
Preordered this (YS X) and started playing day one. Unfortunately it’s disappointing! YS 8 is still the BEST of whole series ( I played origin, 2, 4, 7, 8, 9 n 10). Just bought YS8 PS5 physical disc for collection purpose even though I already have its PS4 deluxe digital n Switch cartridge versions.
I don't know yet if this one will top 8. In some ways I like X's combat more, and the switch version is prettier to look at. But I like how 8's story isn't too in the way.
@@gnosis_gaming I'm more than half way there to beat X. The new system is okay but the double guard-revenge part is almost invincible PLUS only two characters is kinda BORING =(
@@gnosis_gaming @etzule6782 Yes, movement feels alright. BUT, the guarding sys is a big issue here, it blocks EVERYTHING WITHOUT losing any HP; unless you r surrounded by MANY enemies, it NEVER fade. It's especially INVINCIBLE during boss fight (i killed several secrets monsters while i was 35-45 levels LESS than them; as far as i keep guarding building revenge meter, then hit back during a long window; I'll win)... Plus the map n level design are super downgraded too, all flat n 2D like and MOST areas look the SAME since they r all islands. SAD!
What Ys game would you recommend after finishing 8? If 8 is the best, which one is the second best? I am nearing the end of 8 and looking for new one to play.
I'm totally excited about the new combat system, but I don't understand why you need skills in single player combat now.... For some reason I think the tenth game got some disappointing music. Maybe it's just me. I VERY much enjoyed Karja, though. I really like that character a lot.
I sometimes just prefer playing as Adol because the combo skills can be a little too flashy sometimes, so I save them for emergencies. Also if you use the combo skills they also use up Adol's individual SP gauge, but if you use his first then the combo SP gauge is still full.
@@gnosis_gaming Maybe I'm just too slow player. I don't have time to think about it too much. I just run alone until the enemy attacks, and then counterattack with powerful paired skills. In any case - it's a pleasure to play, and that's the main thing)
These solo skills can be divided by cast time, the shorter skills (fast to cast and low cost) have almost none recovery time, you don't have to stand still waiting for enemies' attack and counter them, instead you can always throw a shit tons of skills to them and press guard when you really need it. The longer skills cost more SP but grand you high damage-reduction and powerful enough to damage enemie's shield quicker than coop mode, some of them can even freeze enemies' movement for a brief time. And there's a chain system which reward you SP cost down if you do it right. AND the inactive character get a SP recovery boost. TL;DR The correct way is to stay solo most of the time as it's more efficient.
The invisible walls 'mostly' started to go away around 10-15 hours, when you get full control of the ship. I have another video all about the ship, so you can check it out to see more
Adol feels heavier now... Great, another awesome series has been ruined. Adols lightspeed was always the reason why Ys is fantastic. It just fits so perfectly to the guitar shredding OST. And hearing your thoughts on the combat also reminds of the comment that Falcom made by saying Ys X has some Dark Souls inspired elements. *sighs* Just hoping the music kicks ass again, Xs IX was kinda dissapointing with its focus on orchestral sounds. Makes me wonder how NG+ will be? :/ Monstrum Nox was so bad by literally forcing you to unlock the whole city again! Doing side quests again, picking up these orbs again. BLEGH! Didn´t feel good compared to previous entries. Buying it anyways cuz I wanna see Feena again. And I wanna hear her play her harmonica again! 💕
@@gnosis_gaming Really? Is the language option Japanese or Korean? I didn’t know. I just got the Korean released ver (Japanese voice, Korean subtitle only). I thought that there is just Japanese version that only has Japanese, & Chinese version that also has Japanese language. Oh well as usual when Eng ver comes, I will buy it on Steam. I have all the Ys games on Steam. AFAIK, there is only 3 versions so far: 1. Japan with Japanese only 2. Chinese with Japanese option (Asia ver?) 3. Korea version with only Korean
I'm not sure which version to purchase -- I think the Chinese and Korean version come as a package, and it will display the language according to your Switch settings, but I haven't tried it myself@@hihellokitty85
Agreed! 10 is kind of like that :( but there are so many great things about it. 8 is perfect for me because I love starting off on the ship and being given the freedom to meet the whole cast. Then after the shipwreck, the game lets you go. 9 is super start and stop.
@@gnosis_gaming ive listened to the tracks there are some really high highs and lo2 lows as well. Just ashame because as shallow as this sounds ys music is what got me into th3 franchise to begin with. And trails was obviously the characters and stoey too but that music is starting to decline. Heres to hoping falcom doesnt necessarily copy their past acheivements in the osts but rise above them
The combat changes arnt that appealing to me, and the fact the playable rooster feels so limited might be a detriment to games length. The Hack and Slash of Ys 8 and 9 meant different playstyles and skills line-ups could make some really satisfying and powerful combos, now it feels like they have bottlenecked combat into making guarding as the only reliable to way to damage bosses.
Sounds like you haven't been playing Ys for very long then. Only Memories of Celceta, 7, 8 and 9 have had multiple playable characters and they all use the same engine. Before then Adol was the only playable character in the franchise. Besides that, I don't feel that having multiple playable characters really added all that much. Adol was still the best and most powerful character in the party-based Ys games. Only other character I actually did have some fun playing with was Dana in 8. I think it's actually a plus that the focus is more on fewer playable characters since with this they can focus on giving the combat more depth instead. I'd say huge parties were what actually started to bottleneck the combat in the first place. The difficulty dropped like a brick once they started the party-based games because rather than balancing the combat tightly around 1 or 2 characters, they had to dumb it down in general so every character could deal with it. And this is also why the most praised character action games are focused around 1 character or just a few. You should try beating Oath in Felghana on Nightmare or Inferno. Easily among the best boss battles in gaming in terms of actual gameplay experience. Fighting the bosses in that game is like walking a tightrope. You'll see why something like that can't be replicated in a combat system that focuses on many different party members.
Im not excited at all the last Ys sucked ass in my opinion especially the story lol. Combat will always be the same or tweaked to a insignificant measure so who cares about that aspect. I miss the actual adventuring i thought Dana was ok but it had gaps as well. Such as being forced to play a female character yeah I said it not everyone chooses VaGuyNa I wont apologize for not having a choice 99% of horny bastards share and judge others for not hive minding rofl. Educating people about basic jugements aside bottom line it will be whatever the game will be just like the rest of modern Ys and have half assed story and even less magic. Its like Diet disney it became bland. Maybe thats my fault for playing every Ys title or maybe they just dont try as hard anymore all i know is the magic is gone but i DO know quality has dropped. Obviously 99% of any fan base will disagree with an opinion like this but thats also how RU-vid content creators made Mediocrity a FUNCTIONAL standard. By having to share only positive things about products to ensure popularity it means no one can do no wrong unless you go against it and everyone likes the no responsibility standard because then you dont have to raid against the hive mind masses solo. But being cowards is also what enabled this never changing standard so just consider individualality dead lol and having market standards set by only the positive and the negative never coming to light. 1 sided opinions dont bring about balance things can always be improved and how can you see improvement in what has been almost 2 decades of stagnation in gaming in general? 🤣
