Yu Darvish going over all of his pitch grips Fastball Two Seamer Hard Cutter Slow Cutter Slider Changeup Splitter Supreme Curve Eephus Curve And so on and so on and so on... Part 2 of the interview is here: • Yu Darvish & PitchingN...
Thank you for leaving his Japanese speaking part It was enjoyable since I’m a Japanese and English is my 2nd language A lot of time Japanese speaking part would be trimmed on this kind of interviews Though your English was easier to understand even for me
@@putraditya1931 Nah Eijuns an amalgam he doesn't throw harder enough or any breaking balls yet to be yu though he might be goin forward. If you want direct comparison in ace of diamond its Houngou=Tanaka, Amahisa= Maeda, and Mei=Yuki Saito.
@@ussbridgefour4666 well rumour said that Sawamura will throw breaking balls soon. I said that Sawamura = Yu coz both of them can find new pitches just changing the grip. Plus i think another comparison is Furuya = Ohtani
This is an amazing conversation. Such a great resource for developing pitchers. His mindset of being a continual learner is the most important lesson of all.
Remains my favorite mlb pitcher. More personality in one finger than a bullpen of peers. Recall early AS game appearance where his Rangers teammate mocked as his translator, saying ‘he glad to be here to show off his beautiful hair..’ with Darvish smiling and nodding in agreement next to him. That’s a ball player.
i love these videos man. As a baseball coach who has a 9 year old just starting to pitch, this is some knowledge thats going to last a lifetime and hopefully my kid can teach his kids this stuff.
YAS DOOD. You're killing it! Great get and so awesome of Yu to do this. Thanks esp for getting us a look at his eephus, that's insane. I also loved the look on yr face when he unlocked that cutter. Such good content and from arguably the best pitcher going today. I hope the Padres know what they're getting in him, both on the field and off (from a totally biased Cubs fan). Take care of my boy, SD. And thx again, Ninja
D3 pitcher here, this is crazy. I already have a bunch of rotation on my 4seam but with this new idea of his cutter, it could add so much variability. Thank you so much.
I thought I couldn't be any more hype for San Diego Opening Day but I was wrong. This is great, it gives me a lot to look for during Daru-san's starts. That two seamer moves like a lefty slider!
Darvish is one of my favorite pitchers in the game. His knowledge and dedication to the art is so deep. He'll make a great pitching coach one day if he wants to
first of all, amazing interview...Yu has always seemed like such a nice, interesting person. second, love the live footage especially Smoltzy correcting himself on the splitter / slider strike out. Thank you Ninja!!
Having Yu explain how he manipulates the ball is like having Wayne Gretzky explain how he sees the ice, Kelly Slater explaining how he feels the waves, or Carole King thinks up a song!
For the life of me, I can't believe that it is now that I am discovering pitching ninja. This is incredible. As a kid I used to eat up those baseball instructional VHS videos. This is absolutely fantastic.
I find that baseball isn't very popular, people don't really like watching. Idk y. I just started watching last year and it's been really hard for me to find content on RU-vid.
Yu is an example of elite pitcher mastering his craft, and there aren't many pitchers like him. Average starter has about 4 or 5 pitches in his repertoire. Yu has ELEVEN! I hope he can stay healthy and reach 300K+ in a single season.
Honestly Yu is the most intimidating pitcher in the league to me. His wind up and delivery with the pitch mix makes me uncomfortable just thinking about it
I've never been able to throw a good cutter, either it's straight or I can't control it. Never thought about it the way he explained it. I might try it It's crazy to think that he knows all those pitches, AND can throw them well
Dear Friedman, this is awesome. I'm a RU-vidr from Taiwan. Can I translate this video? I will upload this video to my channel with subtitles but will not turn on the profit function. And I promise to recommend your channel. Please.
I'm surprised he's giving all his secrets! What will the batters be able to do with this info? Who is the one guy who gave this video a thumbs down!?!?! I wonder what his thoughts are in retrospect with the Astros and 2017 World Series. Its scary that he thinks he's getting better and still understanding and developing his knowledge of the craft.
I think he never worried batter knew what kind of pitches he's throwing. On contrary, I think it'll put a fear to the batters whole league even. Guys has 11 pitches for god sakes. And he has confidence to throw them all in a game too. It's like "pick your poisons" situation.
Could be something as simple as catcher calls for 4 seam, down and in and he lets Darvish decide which one he is throwing. Or it could also be 1 finger is fastball, but not the catcher touches his knee twice for the hard cutter or soft cutter or whatever
The catcher could either use a sequence or a combination of fingers. Bauer had the same problem a while back and the catcher would put down index and thumb making an L for cutter
I wonder how someone like him would use the Pitching Comcast device they’re starting to use in the MLB if he has more in his arsenal than the device could hold😂 or perhaps he’ll just stick to the old ways. Even then, how would the catcher and him communicate such a wide array of pitches ?
It's sad that Darvish's career was damaged a little by the Astros cheating. Pitch-catcher should develop new ways to signal the pitch, especially for Darvish with so many different pitches. First and third base coaches can signal batter and runner in the open without tipping off the opposing team. One possible way is to remember a number sequence like a date 12-25 (Christmas). For each pitch, many signs are sent but only 1 is real. In this example, first pitch the first sign is real, 2nd pitch the 2nd sign is real, 3rd pitch 2nd sign is real, 4th pitch 5th sign is real (1-2-2-5) then repeat 1-2-2-5. A new sequence can be used for every batter making it difficult for the opposing team to decode even with electronics. Another way to use the number sequence is to number the pitch type and add. For example, 1=fast ball, 2=splitter, 3=change up. For the number sequence 1225, first pitch you add 1 so if fast ball (1) is signed, add 1 then become splitter (2). The 2nd pitch is 2 so add 2 to the signed pitch, 3rd pitch add 2, 4th pitch add 5, and repeat. If the sum goes above 3 or whatever is the highest pitch number, roll around to pitch 1.
