Crowler was a complete dick until his duel with Camula. His “pep talk” was the turning point for his character from absolute dickhead teacher to the badass motivational chancellor.
Ancient Gears have some of the coolest artwork of any archetype in the game in my opinion. They legitimately look like they could have been some ancient secret technology locked away for being too destructive, only to be brought back centuries later. They aren't even that bad of a deck anymore with the waves upon waves of new stuff. They are a nice "attack face" sort of deck, which i love.
It aint' meta, but sure as hell they are close to getting there with all the new support. All we need now is an Ancient Gear monster that is treated as 2 fusion materials for the fusion summon of an Ancient Gear fusion monster, and/or an Ancient Gear monster that is treated as two tributes for the tribute summon of an Ancient Gear monster while also giving the tribute summoned cards immunities to certain cards.
Yeah, although the reactor core at first glance wold have you guessing anything but a nuclear reactor, maybe if it was colored blue or stereotypical green then yeah. My guess is that the core powering the ancient tech is the same power source found in cyber-dragon and the likes of those "advanced" machines
Crowler became good around season 3 He stopped looking down on red slifers Crowler even in season 1 was quite a good professor in term of attempting to protecting his students even if he wasn't always impartial
But yeah jaden doesn't exist in arc V and crowler might have really been evil in that another universe Since it's jaden who showed crowler that dorms doesn't always mean to be bad Even if he manipulate the results to be put in slifer While he should have been in ra yellow from the start
Since I just finished watching GX, yes I know I'm late to the party, I can see why the final duel with Crowler got number 1. It was both heart warming that Jaden and the others wanted to show their appreciation for the years of his teaching. Also heart breaking that Crowler didn't want his favorite students to leave. But we all have to grow up, that's life.
Ancient Gear Reactor dragon is my favorite card Can attack twice, inflicts piercing battle damage and it can destroy spell or traps. It’s plain awesome
I love the Ancient Gears! I have UAGG (Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem) and that was the main purpose of my ancient gear deck. Crowler wasn't my favorite character but the deck was amazing. I got excited when they showed up a lot in Arc V.
Antoine Landreth I recently got into ancient gears myself and they are awesome in my opinion especially with the support that just makes if not close to complete. Wish it was the same with cyber dragons. They need a lot of support in the main deck.
@@jacobfoxall5633 I have an AG deck irl as well. Had it since middle school and its seen me through a lot of duels ^^. Really good when dueling people that rely on traps and spells to do things like stop attacks, destroy monsters, turn damage into life points, etc. And I also decided to add a few Machine Kings (Prototype, normal King, and Perfect machine king) since I found a good combo that would give me about 3 AG mosnters on the field in one turn.
Gotta love the sheer contrast between TGS Anime's Ancient Gears and R10YGO's Ancient Gears, love them both tbh. One is informative and the other is hilarious
Fun fact:Back when KidsWB was a thing there was a contest for having your monster become a card. Guess who designed Ancient gear golem? This,guy..But,he went by Lord of wars golem. I'm not even joking,I just find it funny.
I thought the tail of chimera is green gadget. If I had to guess, the purple beast head represents the other gadgets like stronghold and metalhold as they are traps(purple). Just thought I’d speak up a bit.
I’m running a bunch of decks, So far for some reason, ancient gear seems to be one of the more consistent - well designed archetypes that should get more focus
Ancient Gear remains to this day, my favourite Archetype in the game. They bring back memories of watching GX years ago and are quite fun to use in the actual card game.
Machine cards in general are my favorite but the ancient set in particular are the ones I like best, pretty rad artwork and their standard hex proof effect is quite handy
The ancient gear monsters always reminded me of the karakuri monsters I use in my own deck. They are bulky and both are similar to each other in appearance. While the ancient gears are consistent with corroded metal and gears while karakuri always have red circular eyes and are made of wood while styling themselves in 1900 Japanese clothing. They are also similar in battle strategy just that ancient gears work on the thought of an endless stream of strong offensive monsters while the karakuri are built on the idea self defense and counter attacks much like samurai. It’s a very neat theme for machine monsters such as this.
They really had more gear than greek in this theme. I didn't even realised it till you said it. The potential could have been amazing for artworks and cards. Really sad they didn't went all out in this design
TGS love your videos. I'm mostly a Duel Links player but played tcg back in 2010. Love the archetype videos. Must take a long time to make the quality and informative videos
thank you for this. my first structure deck I bought was the ancient gear one years ago. I stopped playing at xyz and im trying to sell almost all my old YGO cards and once I do, I might just make an ancient gear deck :)
I love ancient gear deck it is my favorite deck since the beginning and it keeps being stronger and stronger with the new cards! The cards that i love the most are all fusion cards when it comes to extra-deck and ancient gear golem pound when it comes to normal deck!
Ancient Gears, my original loved archetype in YGO and the amount of people I managed to bully at my school thanks to Soldier and Beast. As for their appearance and character who used them, it was one of those situations where I think the character developed and was epitomised by their deck. Crowler was set-up as a Villain at first as would be easy for a show aiming for a young audience, a typical "student vs. teacher" story but what set it apart was that Crowler was portrayed as a caring teacher multiple times later on after his first showing regardless of dormitory the student came from. Eventually we see that he is hard on the Slifers because he knows they can do better, they can achieve greater things and only wants to see students thrive. This drives the idea that he does care, acting callus as to keep the students on their toes not as a primary fear campaign wanting only respect. Multiple times we see his compassion shine through, the big one being his duel against Bonaparte where he in a twist becomes a defender of the Slifers (when we at first thought he hated them) and even broke a trope of a "villain" character losing power when switching sides, he quite cleanly defeated Bonaparte and without changing how he works: You can't approach his deck with typical spell and traps to win, you need to assess of change your tack as needed to win. Again we see another soft side against Chumley where this cements his ideology of not antagonising for sake of causing pain, but to test and push others. Even after the duel he makes sure to say that it wasn't about winning but showing that Chumley was indeed growing and improving showing his true goals: not to put others down but to help them become better (what a teacher should be). Finally, he shows a sentimental side the duel against Jaden a second time, commenting on how he had grown but never changed as he was beaten in the same way in their first duel (Flamewing Man beating over Ancient Gear Golemn with Skyscraper). An eccentric character who only wants his students to become better. Not to mention: He did have the coolest Duel Disk in all series to this day. I mean...who can argue? (and no Bonaparte doesn't count because his short ass needed a support wheel for that annoyance).
Is no one gonna talk about how with double summon you can: play AG wyvern, search AG box, use its effect to search AG frame, then use double summon to summon AG frame to the field to then discard and search either AG fusion or AG golem if you already have it in hand? That's a 2 card plus 3 I think and I love doing it
So thanks to this, his gadget monster video, and to some clever planning, i found a way to mess with my friends with AG Reactor Dragon. Since AG Gadget classifiies as both a Gear and a Gadget, you can sacrfice this card and you if have Geartown on to reduce the tribute cost by 1, you can essentially have a monster that can negate traps and spells when attacking, can attack twice, and deals damahe Def Position monster in about a few turns if you're lucky. And it is FUN.
16:48 Not entirely true, UFOroid Fighter, another Machine fusion monster that can have even higher original original ATK, although not listed on the card. The maximum ATK that card can achieve with its effect is 7800, which can be done by using "Windwitch - Crystal Bell" to copy the name of "UFOroid" from either players graveyard and fusing it with "Flower Cardian Lightflare" as the Warrior monster. Although realistically doing this will be extremely impracticable, and difficult. although could make for a nice challenge! 😂😂
Fact Sheet chimeretech overdragon can actually achieve an original Attack of 10400 but it requires a lot of planning and forethought but worth it if pulled off
I like it how before in the anime anchient gears were rare and legendary cards but then in Arc-v, its was just like "Screw it, mass produce this thing"
I always found it weird that ancient gear golem- ultimate pound was named that in English considering its Japanese name is agg mechanised melee as in the English attack name of agg so why did they reverse it?
I made a post on Reddit talking about a bunch of fan made ancient gear monsters i came up with called ancient gear Mk2 monsters plus a few nwa ones Here's a link to it if you wanna read about it www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/yugioh/comments/coq7ln/ancient_gear_mk_2_monsters_fan_made_cards/
There is a chronomaly monster based on the antikythira mechanism now as well. It's name is simply Antikythira Gear, but it isn't available outside of the anime yet.
I found your channel recently and im from greece.I know the man whom you used the source for the video and you did good research about the topic. Also keep up the good work
As a note from an Ancient Gear player, I also feel Howitzer is loosely based of of a phoenix, as it is a large bird that both burns your opponent, and has the special summoning effect (even though it doesnt float itself)
Ancient Gear Beast is so cool! I remember pulling it from a pack. Wish I never traded it... at least I think that's what I did. I can't find it anymore... or my original Fiend Skull Dragon.
I love ancient gear monsters and the 2 I like the most are AGG and UAGG,also the card I think that goes with them but don't know if it counts as a ancient gear card is called cross-dimensional duel.
great video, ,you forgot "cross-dimensional duel", while it's not exactly an "ancient gear" archetype card, it's first effect specifies "ancient gear monster", and it's second "ancient gear goler or ancient gear golem ultimate pound" so I think it can be considered a support card for the archetype
The Hydra looks like to have right under the heads a space were the green, yellow and red gadget can be placed looking like the dile wich is similar to all those machines
It's not all powerful though, since it can't block card effects only spell and traps, so there are many cards that can remove it from play or destroy it
Always liked the Ancient Gear cards, but when I go up against them I always forget that I won't be able to activate traps until the end of the battle phase XD
