I think Konami is trying to force players into buying their stuff, and cut out third party companies from making a profit. Kind of like what WotC tried to do last year with 3rd party D&D stuff, but Konami not being nearly as intrusive as they WotC was, so it doesn't get as much backlash

All they had to do was ban NSFW or suggestive mats. this feels like a move to force people into buying konami product

Just buy a Yugioh playmat and paint over it. It's still an official mat, I just added some personal touches to them.

Duel Links experince, but my opponent used matching solid color sleeves and playmat to camouflage the set card in the backrow This has happened for times way more than i would like to see (though i always check for number of cards on field so I seldom fall for this cheap trick) But i can totally see people in the tcg try this just to trick people, and because it's paper play, you really can't accuse of your opponent of cheating, but this makes it a worse experience for all of us except the cheapskates. Just throwing it out here.

for sleeves it is kinda understandable. everything else is just weird. konami doesn’t even have that many official playmats for everyone

Konami: how to make more money? 1: ban custom and third partie accesorie compagni for x or y reason. 2: sell licence to third partie accesorie compagni and custom compagnie to make their goods official again. Pay Konami for the card and pay Konami for your accesorie.

How does this help free up judges when instead of dealing with people who have complaints raised they now have to check EVERY attendee?

I think it's less about the play mats and more about making ppl buy their certain brand play mats. The only way a judge is taking too long is because a toxic player is arguing saying the mat is too sus and that player should be removed for a free win. Anyone that's seen rule34 knows anything can be sexualized and some ppl would be turned on by Blue Eyes card. If it's really a problem, all playmats should be single basic color with no images, and cannot match your sleeve color. Hate it or like it, if it's become that big of an issue then that's the best way to go.

Honestly, I am not a fan of full-artwork mats, even official ones. There's just too much going on. Simpler designs like the Hoppin Around mat are much more pleasing, IMO. A mat with like 50% blank space and 2-3 colors is perfect.

Thank god I only play master duel. Too restrictive and expensive to Play with cardboard.

I hope a bunch of EU players best out the old SJC/pre-Edison mats. They are official Yu-Gi-Oh products 😊 just technically not Konami I still use my Gladiator's Assault sneak mat every once and a while

For my malicious compliance, I'm gluing googly eyes to a trap tricks paper playmat and laminate the back with bubble wrap. Let's see how they deal with that.

The policy change stinks because the current policy, as written without the modification, already bans lewd and offensive mats and sleeves. The only reason why we still see them from time to time is because of poor policing by judges and staff. So now, we are all being punished because of Konami’s inability to adequately give their staff the resources they need to enforce their own already-existing policy.

I have some questionable playmats but I would never dare take em somewhere kids could be. Locals or a proper event. I get them for the memes and the look on my mates faces is totally worth it. Also ignore my profile picture 😂
