You're spitting facts but thats been the case since forever. No one tries to become a true traveling YCS competitor in yugioh for the prizing though. We all know how this is gonna work out: People will keep paying for it and nothing will change. I have zero faith when it comes to complaints about card game or video game releases. Everyone complains about stuff, including the price tags, but can't keep themselves from dumping money into these hobbies. With this kind of consumer, Konami is right about doing nothing about this, keeping the price tag problem the same.

It should've been an E Call for Volcanics. Yeah it was used by someone in the anime who DIDN'T use a card from that archetype. But someone in the GX anime used Mischief of the Time Goddess. But that didn't stop Konami from making it a card that only works with Valkyries.

Konami has always been too greedy for its own good. The power creep has always been so blatantly for profit, ahead of what makes the game healthy. Yuigoh seems like a shell of the game it used to be, and it seems like the only people who still play it, are doing it because of commitment and consistency. Like, they've already gone this far, so why not; sorta logic. I doubt anyone actively picks up Yugioh these days.

Bonfire is Rota. It's a freaking Rota. One of the most basic kind of cards in the game. Hell Fossil Dig was a common when it was released. And it was so obviously rarity bumped to the highest point possible to $screw$ over the players. It almost feels like it was done with malicious intent at this point. I think that's why this card in particular is becoming the straw that's breaking the camel's back.

It’s sad that it’s even more expensive and the card is conceptually worse than ROTA because it targets pyros(infamously worst type at least in the past) and actually has a hard once per turn vs Rota that has to stay at one for said reason
@EliteElk221
@EliteElk221 Месяц назад
There is no "feels like" with the TCG, it is always done with 100% malicious intent. "How?" you may ask, the answer my friend is (and I am not even close to joking/BSing) Gambling laws. In Japan, gambling laws are EXTREMELY strict on just about anything that you can gamble with or on, ESPECIALLY things targeted towards children. This results in OCG packs printing EVERY SINGLE card released at normal rarities with the higher tier ones like secret and platinum and such only being rare variations in the same set for collectors purchases (literally the Rarity Collection 1, as it was a direct copy from OCG.) HOWEVER, these consumer protection laws DO NOT exist in the U.S. or other western nations for some unfathomably stupid reason, resulting in Konami and other eastern game dev's/producers acting in EXTREMELY predatory and underhanded ways outside of Japan (literally Rarity Collection 2, the exact opposite of Rarity Collection 1 and a TCG exclusive.) That is why they run extremely basic cards that in context can make decks tier 0 as the highest rarity limited prints as they can AND they can legally get away with essentially theft and outright illegal gambling involving children (that is, if you follow the spirit and intent on anti-gambling laws anyways.) It's not just YGO either, it's ANYTHING Konami touches outside of Japan and this includes video games (why microtransactions on JRPGs are so egregious here but not Japan) AND it's also why companies like EA get to screw consumers with loot-boxes and other shady (and what should be considered illegal) business practices. While players have a LOT to do with the state of the game and it's monetization as others in this comments section have pointed out, there is also a huge legal component as well that I think people are too scared to mention for fear of being called a commie, it's very much ANTI-Capitalist to hurt the consumer as they are how you make money. Konami makes most of it's money in Japan and doesn't respect or care about us dirty foreigners. Be a true capitalist and protect the people that make the system function for the inventors/investors, the consumer.

I swear, my neck hurts from the sheer whiplash of all these controversies we've been facing. Really now, we used to tease Magic players for things like their parent company being evil or insane gate keeping prices. Now we all just look like a bunch of clowns. The last straw for me is the news of Thrust being short printed. I was originally going to play a Fire King deck since I could go budget by getting 3 structures, then throwing in a few staples, and enjoy the year of fire. Now though? no way I'm spending that much on a deck that I simply like best out of all the current ones. As such, when I saw the Thrust reprint I was happy since I have a rogue deck that becomes much more viable with Thrust. Then we find out that the reprint Konami knows people want this badly is being under printed to artificially add scarcity? Nope, not taking part. I think I'm just gonna put the paper game on the back burner until we get those cool new Ancient Gear cards. Shame too, because after the rarity collection I felt so much more like building more decks. Having all those great staples just floating around that I pulled from those packs means I could take my bulk commons, just buy a few engine pieces, throw the staples in, and boom. I've got an 80-90% power deck with little effort. Imagine that, by making chase cards more widely available, I felt like buying even more product since I knew it was easier to build more decks. Now? now I just don't feel like buying much of anything. There is one bit of good news though. I may be moving to Asia, so I don't need to put up with Konami America/Europe's insanity and disrespect.

This is why I gave up playing the physical card game years ago and have been playing Dueling Nexus, Duel Links, and Master Duel exclusively because with online simulators like Dueling Nexus, Dueling Book, EDOPro, and YGOOmega you have access to every card currently available in the game and can even play with some of the newer cards coming out in the sets to come before they're even physically released

So we want multiple good cards at high rarity so that the prices of packs go down, yet age of overlord has 6 of the 10 secret rares being good and still features Imsety at $60 for.... idk why? It even has a $30 ultra. While I agree Konami is definitely riding it, I think the fact that bonfire sold out immediately rather than anyone going "Wait, thats expensive" is a bit more telling. I am not actively playing the physical game anymore since a few years now but I am still interested in the card game in general. Last year I saw that a lot of 'older' staples (Impermanence and such) got reprinted over the years and are affordable. I was pleasantly surprised by that. Of course, I wasn't surprised that staples like Triple Tactics Thrust were pretty expensive on release and only now gets a reprint that drops the price. The one big question I always had and still have though is why the heck in TCG we still haven't got the rarity system the OCG has. It would make things so much easier, affordable and enticing for people to at least try the game.

It probably has something to do with their so called "policy", but their only goal is to just make money, they literally don't give a fuck about players and playerbase, they made game too complicated and too expensive, and honestly they should change age restrictions to something like 12+ or 15+, becayse there's no way somebody's parents are gonna buy kid a deck that's worth around 100$ or constantly buy him packs, i have this problem personally. Every time i go to locals, to participate you have to buy something that's worth around 10$, otherwise you can't participate, i'm just mainly buying deck cores, idc about staples and 2 of my friends are telling me to get staples but i'm not interested honestly. Because let's be honest in my country 3 fire king structure decks would be worth around 81.70$ and i can't really afford that, because i still go to school and my parents aren't giving me that much money. I play floo and will buy a true draco deck soon(without diagram because it's expensive) and i'm not looking forward to doing much of anything. I would also like ocg rarity system, but they also(kinda) have a problem, and it's that they reprint lot less cards, for exampke sekka's light was only printed once in OCG in FLOD, but in TCG it was printed 3 times, but what i like about ocg is that they kinda make staples more affordable, but main cards of one deck are kinda expensive to some extent, in OCG they make staples more affordable by printing them in more rarities, for example S:P Little knight was printed as: super, secret and qcr, while in tcg we have S:P as a secret(or ultra not so sure) and qcr, another example is TT thrust, it was printed as a rare and(idk if it was printed in any other rarity) in the ocg, while in the TCG i think it's printed as an ultra/secret, and here's how cards get expensive. When there's too much demand, but limited resource thing gets more expensive, but Konami uses this to maximum by listening to the playerbase about x cards or seeing themselves that some x card is broken, so they bump it's rarity to(almost always) max rarity. I personally hate Yugioh TCG, but again no matter how much i complain, as long as there are people who are willing to spend 375$ on playset of some x card that can't even be used in every deck, Konami will be greedy and nothing will change, things will only get worse, and not to mention diabellstar engine, thrust, side deck cards, or even main cards of the deck itself. I'm glad i picked up floo's when Robina/Eglen were about 0.23$ per copy, and i waited for feather storm reprint. I'm sorry for writing this long message, but i felt like i had to, i hopr you enjoyed reading this comment and yeah... It was surprising to see bonfire actually getting so many PRESALES at this price. Cards usually come down in price after they officially release. Some cards do go up, but most of the time, they come down from presale prices. I do think cards should be cheaper, but that doesn't mean budget decks aren't playable and can't compete. When I saw SolemnYGO's reason for importing OCG rarity printing where X card gets printed in Ulti, Secret, Ultra, Super, etc in a mainline set isn't gonna work due to card culture and says a 1-to-1 conversion isn't gonna work without really diving deep into it... I thought that was backwards thinking because TCG really needs the help. The reason why cards are expensive IS due to TCG KoMoney fostering this elitist mindset of, "haha, shiny card go brrrrrr.. STONKS!!!" and short printing. .. I strongly believe if TCG KoMoney were to bring in the OCG rarity printing, if would give the average Joe MORE reasons to go out to local OSTs/Target/Walmart and BUY these packs because we can actually get the cards we want to play with. OCG rarity printing pleases both the ego chasers in getting the high rarity and also pleases the average normie who plays once in awhile without being gated.

One big way to address this through existing product - the tins. These already do reprints of the previous release series, but a lot of the big name cards get rarity upgrades, and remain harder to pull. Having more substantial rarity downgrades in the tins would allow Konami to make some cards more exclusive if they want, but still have a regular reprint set. This isn’t to say Konami can’t or shouldn’t do anything else, but it is a small step that would not take much effort and could go a long way.

The ocg system obviously fixes the pricing issue (the most expensive card in a tier 0 format was literally $9), but people are buying here, so what reason do they have to change? This really does not shock me, Konami has been corrupt with the secret rares and rarity bumping since the game came out in 2002, it is only now people are seeing the truth of how corrupt they truly are. While the vid did bring up DAD there have been other famous times of abusing rarity bumping Pot of Duality: was super rare in the OCG but due to how strong the card was and was a 3 off in most meta decks at the time, it was a rarity buff to Secret rare in the TCG with copies going for $100 or more. While 3 off Secret Rares were not unheard of Pot of Duality created outroar as it was needed in almost every deck rather than just 1 tieri0/1 deck. People mass quilted at the time. Rescue Rabbit: Was a rare in the OCG but due to its power to summon 2 Level 4's that you can use to XYZ summon, on top of printing 2 very powerful Dino XYZ Monsters that only need 2 Level 4 Dinos rather than its own archetype monsters. The TCG bumped the Bunny to Secret Rare and Dino Rabbit was one of three decks that almost killed YGO all for good at the time. Spell Book of Judgement: This was common in the OCG but due to how busted the card was and made Spellbooks joint tier 0 with Dragon Rulers, the card was rarity bump all the way to secret rare. This turned the price of a 3 off-meta deck card from a $1-$5 card into a $100+ card with one simple rareity change. The players putting their foot down on Konami's greed nonsense is a good 15 years overdue.

Another thing many people don't get is how outrageous these prices are in other countries where people earn $1000 PER MONTH (or sometimes even $500/month) and these prices are literally unaffordable those people. There are many of these countries in South America and Eastern Europe, and these countries already experimented with importing OCG... which might be the solution now considering how Asia-English literally started to become a thing once again. The TCG truly shot themselves in the leg with these actions. With cheap boxes available this way, the regular players and collectors will just start to use these instead, and TCG's only source of revenue will literally be competitors and scalpers - the latter will stop doing so when they realize they have no one to sell these kind of stuff for either.

I think people don’t get it because it isn’t logical. I lived in a country that was average 1k per month. Why would they get a 6,000 Gucci bag? Why would they be mad Gucci doesn’t make the same exact bag available to them for 100 because that’s what they can afford? Doesn’t make much sense. X brand makes a product. People drum up Y demand. People pay Z price. It is what it is. We also can’t afford yachts. Where’s the poor boi yacht they should make available to us? You either have the money for a hobby, or don’t. They’re not in the business of making something affordable. Also, affordable to who? There’s always someone poorer. So…. what then? That 500-1000 country you figure out Konamis logistics and get it down so that person can afford it. What about the people there that make 200? Why not them? Go ahead and explain to them why they can’t, but the 500+ can. Serious question, not rhetorical. Konami doesn’t owe you anything. They don’t owe a poor starving person in Kentucky anything. They don’t owe someone in a country earning 500-1000 per month anything. There’s way more proxy going on than you may think. Most people I was around had some cards for fun and everything played was proxy. Their thought process to it was when I’m playing I’m competing. In a video game you put settings on low so you have best frame rate. This is the same. I don’t remember anyone feeling like they needed the actual card. Couple did, but was specific card they liked. All decks were ripped loose leaf with dicks as the ‘art’ and card notes. Every card of mine is a dick.

I feel like the players themselves should take _some_ responibility on the matter. Konami may decide the rarity on the card, but they weren't the ones who decided which ultra rare in the set is $20 or $100. It's the community itself, ironically enough, that decides the value. Someone decided that it was $100, and now it's agreed that it's $100.
@ParadigmZwei
@ParadigmZwei 5 месяцев назад
You fail to understand two things here. 1) Konami absolutely have a degree of influence in how much a card goes for because they know the meta of their own game and know which cards will sell like hot cakes. They 100% knew Bonfire was going to be a big money card and they could've printed it at a lower rarity to make it more accessible for players, but instead they printed it at Ultra so that they could sell more product. 2) The concept of supply and demand. Card retailers are businesses that need to make a profit in order to continue trading. They are only able to acquire so many copies of a particular rare card to sell, and if they choose to sell that card at a low price and it comes at a very high demand then their supplies run out too quickly and they become unable to make further profit off of that card. They need to drive the price up in line with the demand for the card so that their supplies can last and they can make a tidy profit and continue selling more cards in the future. This, again, would be far less of an issue if Konami were to print that card at a lower rarity. tl;dr - You are wrong, it is 100% on Konami.

Not really sure what to do about it 🤷🏻‍♂️ maybe I’ll get a meta-ish deck in a year by the time it’s not relevant anymore

As another note, as you said in this video this is their business model but I agree that I don’t see how this is even good for their business. People are already quitting, and yeah maybe they’re just banking on all the whales but with the rarity collection we have been shown how popular (and good for lining their pockets) a set like that could be, and I genuinely see that kind of set making more sales for the general population of players over all the whales who buy these singles/sets. I mean, I don’t have these stats in front of me but it seems clear to me, and I can only imagine it’s clear for the hardcore longtime player base as well. As a new player it seems obvious that this just turns away new potential customers, where adopting the pokemon-esque model that they did with the rarity collection could only attract them back.

My biggest problem with the whole bonefire thing is that Fire based strategies aren't the only thing you can be playing this format. There are much more decks you can build on much more of a budget and still compete well.

@LunaticKD1991 what's your definition of budget for yugioh? And yes, it is not real cheap like the other tcgs. It hasn't been and more than likely will never be. But going by your logic here, I can ONLY take the fire.dek to a Regional or an YCS and do well. Never mind the 15 to 20 other decks that can reasonably compete with results on much less.

It's more of a breaking point because the economy is bad and is stressing people further. People for the last decade i've played have bought cards over paying rent, bought cards over paying for food, because what they want is to win. And like it or not, a lot of meta decks the company designs on purpose to sell to those people who...let's be honest, don't care about the game as much as care about them winning. And Hey, they sold out of bonfire...so guess what? Prices will be the same. Average player playtime is half a year, old players return for that high again. If this is a problem, you won't see true diminishing returns until a long time has passed.

I dont think price is as much of an issue as relevancy. expensive decks have been a thing since I first started playing competitively during the 5ds's era (infernity, x-saber, lightsworn, blackwing etc). also i've heard that it was even worse before then when prize cards worth thousands ruled the competitive scene. players are willing to pay hundreds, even thousands for a deck that can either guarantee them a win or draw a crowd just because of how expensive the deck is. the reason why nobody wants to pay current day prices anymore is because decks only last a format, maybe 2 if theyre lucky. imagine investing hundreds into your deck only for it to be powercrept within a year, get hit by the banlist almost immediately or lost in the shuffle so it cant even be played in a rouge match up a few years after release. its an ugly feeling. the simple solution would be to stop reprinting cards in higher rarities, support archetypes instead of constantly making new ones and stop retraining/errata-ing cards. komani obviously would never do that though, there's too much money in it for them. sad but true.

Yugioh needs another Spring 2016 meta where meta decks were budget. Kozmo/Burning Abyss were under $200, Monarch could be built for literally $70, just Kuraz was expensive and maybe Maxx C's. The side deck was probably more expensive, and you didn't need an extra deck.

Didn't we just get out of a ditch where stores were literally stopping YGO because the product was unsellable? Granted, I would rather have the value spread evenly across all cards rather than in one, but you all should know by now that's not how YGO works. Am I the only one who thinks this is overblown? Bonfire is only usable in like two to three decks that are destined for the banlist. The decks aren't even that good, they fold to Droll. Just play something else.

@apertureb2247 I mean, yeah, but it's one over 10,000 cards. You can find at least three that instantly win you the game, play three copies of each, and you boost your probability to about 70%. Three games in a match with 70% odds that they get Drolled, Shiftered, or Nibirued. Means you have about 80% win rate each match. Of course, you should be using a deck that also hard counters the meta too, but you can use whatever you want if you "draw the out."

The biggest problem IMO is still that konami just spits in our face compared to the OCG. Add to that, we all know that the $120 bonfire will eventually be $20 and then $2 and then $0.02 ... It's insane to be spending this kind of money on something that depreciates that fast. I remember watching you when I was still wet behind the ears and now I'm getting close to being 28, spitting distance from 30. I'm just simply not dumb enough to spend this much on something this worthless. This might sound entitled, but I'm actually offended as a customer by konamis actions. Yeah TeleDAD and Nekroz was bad, but it was less offensive back then, because the player base wasn't mid-life crisis 30s guys (mostly in the tech sector lmao), but same age young adults at locals even. So not everybody had these, but now the only people left at locals seem to be try-hard enough to buy the newest best cards every set, so it's hard to avoid. I don't hate them. Everyone has to make the value judgement for themselves. Even though I could afford it, it simply makes no sense to me. At this point Magic the Gathering is cheaper to be competitive at and their cards hold value long term.
@ericwollam5532
@ericwollam5532 5 месяцев назад
I think one of the biggest problems with yugioh that players are finding is that, unlike magic the gathering which designs sets around being able to be drafted, and for those that dont know, basically in theory, you should be able to play with just cards from that set, and have a reasonable number of playable decks. Typically in magic the gathering, there's about 5 core playstyles usually separated into color pairs or wedges or whatever. And this philosophy makes it so you can still find bomb cards at low rarity because they are often needed there to make their playstyle playable in their own set. Cards like Sensei's divining top which would eventually be banned for being so powerful, were originally an uncommon. Gitaxian probe and mental misstep, two cards that were also banned for being game warpingly powerful, were a common and uncommon, respectively. Yugioh doesnt have draft or sealed only events besides what some yugitubers do in their spare time, so the best cards from any particular set can just be put at the highest rarity and everything else can just be pack filler because no one is opening packs just to play with cards from those packs. And one of the biggest problems with this is, it makes opening packs feel less special. Its almost impossible to find lower rarity cards that can make a meaningful impact outside of some really janky inconsistent youtuber combo deck.

Magic seems to have the opposite problem where they overprinted lots of chase cards to the point that standard (a rotating format where the most recent sets are used) product isn't being opened. There has to be a happy medium where some cards are expensive and chased after while the overall cost of the game is affordable enough.
