Vasquez was on fire in this match. @6:25 this seems like a really foolish foul to commit; Savicevic wasn't in a goal scoring position at this point. It was a dangerous position but it wasn't certain that he would get a shooting chance. The excellent free kick was a fitting punishment for the deliberate foul :) Stoijkovic was one of those names that stuck in my head from this tournament.

El mejor futbolista español en ese momento era Rafael Martín Vázquez. La selección española era una mezcla de jugadores muy buenos con otros muy mediocres, y así es difícil avanzar en un mundial.
Martín Vázquez era el mejor sin duda. Michel y Butragueño estaban en un buen nivel tambien. La defensa no era mala, el centro campo algo debil, pero sobre todo nos faltaba lo que nos vino faltando siempre: otro buen delantero y un portero estelar. Y algo de fortuna, la que nos faltó en este partido, ante Bélgica en el 86, ante Italia en el 94...

Tenía 9 años, y me acuerdo como si fuera ayer. Que frustración, cuantas ocasiones perdidas, que suerte la del portero. La selección, mi equipo de siempre, cuanta frustración hasta aquella tanda de penaltis contra Italia en cuartos de 2008, ese día cambió por fin la historia.
Como siempre cuando una selección estaba dominada por jugadores del Madrid, el resultado era éste; falta de personalidad, escasa unión, un compromiso a veces cuestionable (véase la agachada de Míchel) egos por encima de otras cosas... y eliminaciones frente a equipos medianos.
Michel cobarde! Baja la cabeza cuando el balón pasa precisamente por donde él está ubicado en la falta directa y por eso consiguen el gol los yugoslavos.
