Yusuke's Final Test:Spirit Wave Orb,You get to see yusuke get tortured :DD......... sorry fangirls lol from the anime Yu Yu Hakusho I do not own anything all rights go to there owners
Yep genkai even mentions how given time the pain will stop refering to how we will reach maturity and learn how to deal with it. Genkai removing the orb is a reference to how parents always try to help us in this process, trying to take the pain away which often stops people from maturing. Finally he matured by seeing his real inner self and accepting who he is.
Not really he had to overcome his own limits mentally, physically, and spiritually to absorb the energy. He put all his focus on puu and to save him that he didn't really care anymore on what he is going through. Seeing other people suffer that you forget about what you going through
Aye bruh fuck you, i don't live under no damn rock, i just didn't hear many people talking about this shit, i was born in 1999 asshole, don't be a smartass
Phoenixfireheart I remember when I say that the first time . I felt exactly like yusake did . I hated puu til that moment and that's what I realized how important his spirit animal is
Best scene in *ALL* of the series. It is what it is. This one scene has it all. Pain, love, drama, desperation, emotion, action, defeat, victory etc...nothing beats it
Universal DON id say the best was when he was fighting Yomi in the last arc and Raizens people were watching on in tears as their leaders ancestral son put everything on the line to show the pride of his kingdom. This is definitely up there though
TheBurningFaith i watched one of there discussion panels and when he was getting ready to dub that episode he researched the hell out the episode so he could make the right screams and noises at the right times and not just generic screams. He was also 18 at the time and it was his first dubbing role as Yusuke.
@@a7xguitar666 it's also the fact that when it came out, it was hard to find this quality in other dubs. Dragon Ball z sounded like a Saturday morning cartoon compared to this.
The symbolism of sacrificing pain and hardship to save yourself... is amazing in the last 4 minutes of this video. If only everyone had an inner self to look at... Maybe we'd try harder to be better in life as a society if we had someone to look out for.
5 years late but here we are. It is more about growth which is the theme of the anime indeed. Here we see what responsability is like, a real pain in the ass but fundamental for growth, as kids we halfass it just like Yuske always does. Genkai trying to take it away is the same thing parents do to protect their children but this stuns their growth. Yuske taking it back is the same kids do to show they are grown up, basically a let me do it myself. Finally we have Yuske assuming responsibility for reals, taking the pain and finally making it part of who he is.
@@markhunter3533 I mean it's never explicitly said but It's heavily implied through both the scene and further plot points after with how his fight with Toguru goes, that the thing that ends up unlocking yusuke's potential is happening via his embracing his ACTUAL self and emotions. It's very telling that this is one of only two scenes where yusuke cries, he may shout and punch walls and show his anger but he never shows WHY he is angry, he's usually angry because it's easier to be angry than look inwards. Toguru later tells yusuke the second time he cries "You know this is your fault right? for living in a constant state of repression." That said I'm happy to anyone to keep their own interpretations of story their own, often what stories mean to us is more important than any author's will, as much as I love togashi.
@@PatternLand In the manga Yusuke swore a whole lot more actually. This is the most accurate representation of the manga in terms of character accuracy.
Every time I have a migraine or some other nasty pain like currently I am recovering from a surgery- I come back to this video. It’s almost as if seeing Yusuke go thru this excruciating pain and overcome it helps me overcome mine
@@Beleth420 you’ve got this ! Personally, I’m perplexed it’s been a whole 8 months since I’ve last seen this. Shows how good things have been turning up on my end lol , but yeah man, you’re gonna be better than whatever it is on you 💪
Yusuke felt nothing but pain and his body ripping apart, he was screaming, yelling and cursing. But not once did he ever give in and give up. He even took the orb back willingly. People like Yusuke in real life are rare.
@Yusuke Urameshi I don't care how OP he is, Goku can't hold a fucking candle to you. You are the most badass alpha chad in existence, period. And this kind of shit proves it.
Let's just all agree that Justin Cook as yusuke is one of the best match ups. Hard to believe he got such small rolls as raditz and super buu. This man can deliver. Best dub
I think it was honestly a matter of them finding him when they did. They must have been through the frieza saga at least. I’m gonna guess that they started Yu Yu Hakusho around the cell saga and saw what an insane talent Justin was so they casted him as the biggest role they had left for their most popular show (Super Buu for DBZ)
Yusuke is such a fucking trooper through and through, when Genkai takes back the spirit orb cause she thinks it'll kill him..."Hey, give that back you old bitch!" Gotta love him
@@WtfHeroRs Frieza is an androgynous alien mutant with genitals like a ken doll. I'd say it works just fine for that. Certainly better than some fake British accent. I'd say it fits well for both. Though the voice is noticeably softer in Genkai's.
One of the best rendered power up displays. Driven by plot by delivered with such high quality. The entire process actually takes several episodes with moments of coming back to the training. Yusuke's screaming, the blood squirting, tear sounds, extreme panic combined with Genkais warnings, guilt, and attempt to take back the orb really sell the risk. Yusuke's body is literally being plown open like a nuclear power plant about to blow. Never gives in and even shoves it back in after sampling the full measure of pain. Never giving in. Afyer he even resigns himself to failure until Puu shows up trying to save him. Then he steps up. Just the right way to sale a power boost to me. Real stakes with real emotion.
I doubt that if they made something this good, they could not find something to do with it for more than 112 episodes. The real problem was that this was labeled as "The cartoon that comes on after DBZ ends" so not as many people got exposed to how good this show was. So, ratings wise it most likely didn't do as well, therefore got canceled. Unfortunate, cause this is actually my favorite anime next to Kill La Kill..
And also, Yu Yu Hakusho was made by the same people who made Hunter X Hunter, in case you might think "They just couldn't come up with any other ideas". I doubt that with great minds like those.
Anime fun fact: during Kuwabara and Kurama's card game, we see that the manufacturer of the cards is Nintendo. Kind of a cool little Japanese inclusion. And a throwback to the company's origins.
theres no longer anime like this.. where they are able to explain everything in detail within 2 to 3 mins and switch scenes to cover more story etc. the pacing of this anime was perfect.
Dylan Pryor taking a literal ball of pain and suffering, telling your mentor to fuck off, and slamming it back into yourself? Yusuke is a fucking CHAMP.
Nah dont do that. Cause then i cud say some things about Kuwabaras power up and compare it to Vegeta’s first time going super saiyan during a meteor storm.
@@seandafny kuwabara was stuck in a dimension that literally was killing his friends as kuwabara said it's the part where he powers up and saves the day
ssj ambrose no, i was speaking on his “power of love” power up. Not the epic dimensional sword one. My point was that this Yusuke final test is so epic that any other power up really pales in comparison i mean this is all time greatness and then someone wants to bring up Supreme Kai bringing out Gohans true potential. I think the way Ultimate/Mystic Gohan gained his powers was legit, but when u compare it to this it does seem silly and thats not fair. This is the long winded version of the point i was originally making
Between DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho I choose Yu Yu Hakusho because it has more development, relatable characters, and some touchy moments. I don't care how old I am I will still enjoy YYH as long as I live
I watched this episode for the first time the other day and I can't stop thinking about. It's far and away the best scene in the anime so far and I'm shocked to see how trite it is in the manga by comparison. There's something so thematically powerful about Yusuke empathizing with his inner self and getting his power from his desire to protect those in need. We have a tendency to be hard on ourselves ... To really be able to hold ourselves to the same justifiable standards that we do other people seems like an incredibly strong power. I thought this scene was such a unique expression of self-love and acceptance presented in an iconic shonen power-up way. Absolutely love it.
So many times like this in any other shounen would just be the protagonist passing some arbitrary challenge and then receiving their power-up with relative ease. I think the way Yusuke has to endure ultimate suffering and truly display his guts and determination in an uncomfortable and, honestly, sickening way shows better than anything why most people would never have been able to achieve that power. It's not just that you have to go through hours of agony, but it's also the knowledge that even at the end of it all you may still fail the test and die. Yu Yu Hakusho did an incredible job at justifying Yusuke's power through physical and metal trials and it makes his win over Toguro feel completely justified. Legendary show.
Justin Cook will always be my Yusuke. His voice performance is fantastic. A lot of anime’s I watch particularly in dub tend to have teen characters be either too mature or too immature. Either way it’s never really a realistic approach, however, Yusuke tends to relate to me when I was a teen just by his personality alone, not to mention his extraordinary and relatable character development. Watching Yusuke on screen genuinely feels like I’m watching a real 15 year old kid learning to accept himself and grow up, and Justin Cook portrays him beautifully. Very rare to see that nowadays.
This Spirit wave orb trial is the embodiment of willpower not many would be willing to endure this amount of pain to gain this power to protect others and to see Yuskue save his inner self Puu still have me tearing up to this day🥲😭
No, imagine that kidney stone pain, with the worse hangover, worse muscle pain, both ear drums busted and swimmer’s ear. I remember in the Harry Potter novels, Harry described the torture curse as having “100 white hot knives stabbing every inch of your skin” and that even Harry at one point prayed for death during the pain.
Dude! I had stones two years ago, and I couldn't agree more. I had a violent attack when they were moving through. I thought of this scene immediately!
My favorite part of this anime. She gives this to Yusuke to help him defeat Toguro while telling him not to run away from his humanity like Toguro did. However by giving him the energy she effectively gave him enough energy to unleash his demon blood allowing him to run away from his humanity.
Yusuke didn’t really lose everyone he cared about like Toguro did losing his young students. He could have easily lost himself if he went through the same thing
Just binged the Netflix adaptation. On its own, it touches on important and necessary elements of the story. As a representation of the anime, we lost literally everything meaningful like this bit of Yusuke's training. Nothing compares to this.
Everytime I see the scene where yusuke finally accepts the spirit orb and saves puu always gives me chills. This show was so well done even its stupid cheezy moments. Pain, suffering, guilt, hatred, love, victory, regret, drama, humor, reverence, atonement, etc. This show hit all the feels in the most awkward scenes sometimes and always when the scenes called for these emotions. Forever one of my top animes ever.
I do wonder if it was especially painful for Yusuke on account of him being part demon. His body could be rejecting it far more than a normal human would've.
@@FourteenthAngel That's not how it works. He's always had demon blood in him. He's always been a descendent of the Mazoku. It's just he didn't gain access to his demonic powers until became "spiritually mature"
There was legit a comparison between sub and dub, and hands down dub is way better than sub and i enjoy sub alot. This is just one of the very few rare cases where dub is literally better than the sub
It was probably akin to having every inch of you stung by a bullet ant; which, in case you don't know, has the most painful sting on the insect sting pain index.
Ninten Watch Brave Wilderness bullet ant video and you'll see true pain. multiply that by a hundred and I think that's what yusuke is feeling. I'd probably want to bash my head into a stone too.
2:15 gives a brief foreshadowing of how bad the pain is. The way the blood came out of Yusuke’s head and he recoiled back is exactly the way the body reacts when shot directyin in the forehead from the front. Imagine living through the pain of being shot through the head, brain, skull and out the other side? That’s what Yusuke felt and that was the beginning.
90s anime was on another solar system in terms of narrative, character expression and development. Further the delivery of the characters emotions was portrayed with utmost authentic fidelity towards the characters at hand circumstances. Here’s hoping we will get anime that can match what the 90s brought us
@@angelcarter6387 In the manga Atsuko was a lot more involved in Yusuke's life. She's the reason he gets back in school, she attends the Dark Tournament (a lot of Shizuru's moments are actually Atsuko's), and she completely takes Shizuru's place during the Chapter Black Saga. Atsuko is actually kinda badass in the manga.
@@machine1685 I know, that's kinda why I was really disappointed overall with her attitude in the anime. I really would've liked to have seen more of the manga version of her character portrayed in the anime, because I feel like she was just so EPIC in the manga and then they kind of did her wrong in the anime and she went from being totally badass to just sort of there for the sake of Yusuke not being an orphan or homeless
There's a good reason why Yusuke absorbing the Orb is one of my wallpapers. And every time it comes around, all I can think is "SCREW THIS TEST, I'M GETTING US OUT OF HERE!"
In my opinion the best part about this of this scene is that unlike a lot of anime/manga. The MC didn’t just get OP powers. Yusuke had to suffer and toil in untold pain and loss in order to become stronger. He wasn’t just plopped out going “lol I’m way to strong”
I can relate to what Yusuke has gone through with my Sickle Cell Crisis because the pain I go through is similar to the spirit orb test but just like Yusuke I have the grit and willpower to persevere. Once the pain is over or I have relief from pain medications I fainted, that's why this episode is relatable and Yusuke is one of my favorites 🙏🏿💯🫡.
@Pranav A I appreciate it, but it's life. I have to deal with my condition from birth to death. Currently, I'm doing fine. I celebrate my birthday Friday and watch WrestleMania throughout the weekend, which is a tradition of mine, Thank you again for your comment 🙏🏿💯.
@@Painless8112 Well only if his body was still intact. Remember, if his body is outright destroyed, no resurrection for Yusuke. It also takes several minutes so Yusuke would have lost the match and come back to his friends most likely dead for losing the tournament.
@@Barret9559 true but if his body was still intact and his friends were all dead i believe as soon as he knew how to go to demon world he would go there and have no earthly connections to hold him back.....i believe (fact check me if i am incorrect) the he would start eating humans and then become stronger then raizen and the other two kings and just with him alone be able to take over all of demon world.
WHO ELSE CAME HERE CUZ THE LIVE ACTION SUCKED?!😅😢 Any YYH fans who liked the live action are NOT REAL FANS. Just cuz the fights were decent doesnt justify the whole show. Not only did they rush the live action, but they skipped so much like this and Pu!
Easily one of the best characters ever. Yusuke was such a badass and still so relatable. Dude was written so well and the dub director and voice actor elevated it so much as well. Easily my favorite character. Very few come close.
@@dj-um7el damn, been a year since I commented this.💀 Thanks for reminding me I guess lol. If you’re interested there’s a new yusuke action figure being made. I’d definitely like a whole line of yyh figures and this is the first one ever made. It’s sh figuarts and it’s on bigbadtoystore. Spreading the word cause I’m a collector and I really want this line to go all the way lol.
The part with poo trynna help but was in pain killed me smh. Call me soft all you want I dont give a damn. It just means I have a heart and know what this pain is cause I can relate. Wonderful anime hands down masterpiece.
