This is a power fragrance , not a wishy washy perfume from the moment you smell you know yes this is for me or not decadent rich and so unforgetable. You know yes this is me confident proud smart and dare I say it beautiful .you make no apoligies for who you are ever. Many years ago there was Tabu by Dana sexy and unapologetic made for a woman so confident this be opiums grandmother.People now call it a old lady fragrance but this old lady wwas a smoken hot babe when this all begain.
OMG Thomas I think your bang on right mate. I totally agree with you. It is such a captivating & sensual fragrance... My mum used to wear this in the 70's, 80's and 90's... I used to love this I still do... It gives an aura of sophistication & grandeur It was a ground-breaking fragrance for it's time and still is .....the cocktail of the notes are Brilliantly blended.... They just don't make fragrances like this anymore... The Power houses of the 70's & 80's... I think even the original Poison by Dior & White Linen , Youth Dew & Beautiful & Knowing by Estee Lauder... not to forget Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds are all superb fragrances.... These fragrances are all Beast Mode.... Awesome review buddy ...
+John Bernard Thanks John! I love the powerhouses from the 90's they are my favourties. You can never ignore the ones from the 70's and 80's though either. I LOVE LouLou by Cacharel. :)
This is my mothers favorite, she's worn it most of my life! As a child, I always thought it smelt like an expensive barber shop.the older I got, the more I appreciated the oriental notes and could grasp the notes better! :)
I personally don't care about the name, all I care is the captivating scent that the opium has, I have used 2 bottles so far and soon I am going to purchase it again. I love opium. One of my favorite long lasting fragrances ever.
I purchased Opium because I wanted to be reminded of the 80's back when my Mum used to wear it. It may have been reformulated, but there is still something 80's in it and that's why I love it because it reminds me of my childhood.I love this perfume, aside from the memories this perfume brings, I love how luxurious it smells.
My boyfriend bought this perfume for me years ago and I still love it as it is very pungent does not take a lot but smells wonderful definitely for winter
Yay! Thank you so much for this fabulous review of a unique and wonderful fragrance! I was so excited to see that you had reviewed it. Opium and Poison are my very favorite perfumes. Obviously, I love beast - mode perfumes.
I do agree with you it is Arabian type of a scent !!! I love it !!🥰 A beast mode !!! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾Power house !!💥💥 my kind of a scent !! I also have the purple bottle ‘BELLE D’OPIUM !!! loveeeeee it !!! 💖
Fantastic review as always. Thank you for reviewing this goddess of a perfume! I own a vintage eau de toilette and the current eau de parfum formulation and it is just pure love.
I loooove Opium! It was the first perfume I really fell in love with, the one that got me into fragrance. I prefer the EDT to the EDP; I seem to notice a large difference between the two, the EDP often goes musty on me. As far as the reformulation goes, the modern EDT was my first experience with it, so perhaps it has swayed my perception, but I own the pure parfum and EDT in vintage, and don't notice a huge difference from the modern-- at least, not enough to make me despise the reformulation. The vintage does seem a tad more powdery. Great review!
you might actually have the same taste in perfume that I do! I actually want Opium myself and I've wanted it for a while! you're reviews actually help me decide if I want to buy a bottle!
+ouch110 Fragrance Reviews monster? yay! more reasons to buy it! I love those heavy hitters because they last, I just got a scentbird account and this is on my list! Will give this a test run soon
Bravo my friend! Well done review of probably one of the most exotic perfumes in the world! I have ALWAYS loved Opium, but can't seem to find it in it's original glory in eau de parfum, not the toilet water...hehehe
I went to go sniff this a few days ago and I don't think I've even smelled a curry as spicy as this perfume! It was nice though, but I think maybe a bit too much for me to wear to uni. Then again I wear samsara to university so I don't suppose it cant get worse (for those around me haha). I think I might start off with belle d'opium though, but it's been discontinued so I can't even sample it :( Lovely review as always xxx
+karan kaur Thank you Karan. I agree with you 100% about this being a bit too much for certain situations. I found if I just put one spray on, it seems to do the trick. I work in an office so..its SO easy to offend people haha. Ooops! I didn't know belle d'opium had been discontinued...hmm. I'll have to hunt some down.
I went to the store and I smelled this one and I loved it, but it gave me a grandma vibe and I wasn't sure about buying it. But now, after your review, I want to buy it. Thank you so much for the video!
Opium is like a hypnotic drink and similar to what people like in the middle east which you also said! I love this type fragrance especially when I want a heavy boozey perfume. It does have that old reputation though which is sad that it carries that sort of stigma.
Great review as always! Opium is one I give a sniff to every time I pass it at a shop. I've never gotten sweet out of it but I haven't dared try it on skin yet ;)
A pity the newer batches are watered down and the newer generation has no interest in Opium. The bath line and the rechargeable atomisers were absolutely gorgeous.
I wore it senior year of high school in the 80's! I got tons of compliments, primarily from my specific "love" interest at the time! lol I don't know about the new formulation. I've heard mixed reviews. I do however love Belle d'Opium. It's stunning and again, lots of compliments from the males around! :) Have you tried Belle?
My local drugstore didn't have a tester of this perfume, so I watched your review and bought it, you described it perfectly. I would also describe it as "vintage". Thank you! Greetings from Croatia
Hi! Croatia? How lovely, I really want to visit there one day it looks so stunning. Especially Hvar. I'm glad you liked the fragrance. It's a powerful one but such good quality. Love it!
Wonderful review! It's so nice hearing someone who is so descriptive. Could you review Belle D'Opium and/or Opium Vapeurs if you get a chance? I would love to hear what they're like. Take care 💜
+Kelly Moore Thanks Kelly. Well I've been hearing that Belle D'Opium is now discontinued. I will certainly try and find some though as it sounds like a good one. :)
I was choosing between Opium and Cinnabar by Estee Lauder, and decided to buy the latter, because the carnation note in the former appeared to annoy me. Anyway, I want them both, as well as Yves Rocher's Ispahan and Amouage's Fate.
Hello! Great review! I'm glad to have found your channel, really enjoy your videos! I'm wondering if you could please review the black opium and the new black opium nuit blanche? I'm quite interested in these two!
Ordered it yesterday after having used a tester (EDT though). This one touches a string within me; I don't why exactly. But since it happens with me rarely, I had to have it. Thanks for your review! Always love to watcht them! Greetings from Netherlands.
I think the EDT might be a bit better than this one ya know. I think I said it in the video but a work colleague had the EDT. It's spicier and a bit more complex.
I own the EDT one and it's so strong that I only put it in my both arms without sniffing! I love it after 15 minutes not before.. It really can give you headache easily be careful with it not to put much out home it might be offensive to others..
Most perfume lovers will say that vintage is ALWAYS the way to go and I would agree, but with Opium (which is a fragrance I've never truly loved in vintage form) is better in the new formula. I would try both, and also the EDT vs EDP too. With the new one they are quite different, the EDT feels much spicier.
I enjoy layering vintage Opium w/ Ciara...the sweet musk tones it down b/c I think my bottle may have turned, or it's just The Beast to end all beasts.
People tend to forget that if a fragrance is hugely successful it's because the creator's have made something so special that everyone wants to have it.
+Tal Mamatov Hi Tal, I used to have the men's one and really liked it for a while, then I went off of it. It's just as interesting as this I think. Like a lovely oriental for men. Sweet tones but still masculine. I can't remember if I had EDT or EDP though. sorry!
I bought this for my grandma last christmas and she still hasnt opened it or used it the longer she waits the more affraid I am that she wont like it.. I sprayed it in ulta the other day with my girlfriend and she was like eww what the hell did you spray its strong I dont like it I said its the original opium because I bought her the black opium and she loves it..
I'm a new subscriber and also came from career in fragrance industry. This review got me. Babe , this crap is horrid. I was alive and near adult when opium launched. My god, was that the shit. It was my first signature scent and still I purchase the secret de parfum ( discontinued) to wear. Now that is opium. This is spit up from reformulation demon. Please let me send you a nice vintage sample to enjoy ... 💋 I understand your angle and will continue watching.
+Kate Belle D'opium has been discontinued in stores and the reviews online are so mixed I'm not sure if it will be a safe blind buy! :( how is it for you? x
karan kaur I like it! It's definitely a spice bomb, and I don't find too big, but I don't really get much else from it besides the spices. I found a pretty inexpensive mini spray (10ml, like they do for Black Opium) and bought that, which worked out really well!
Nope, i just cant get behind this one sorry. Not when i know what a magical queen the origional is. I tried this formula the other day, its nice but its got nowhere near as much depth. Long lasting yes, potent, yes. I can deal with reformulations in fragrance most of the time; bevause things change and thats life, but this one jyst wasn't good enough. Only because it feels like they've gone backwards and cheapened something that is known worldwide for being one of the most exquisite, hypnotising fragrances in history.
I actually found a vintage 90’s Opium edt and oh my goodness it is so strong. Two sprays and I was pissing off hubby. He hated the smell, made me wash it off. I tried. You could still smell it. I don’t love it, don’t hate it but I can’t wear it anywhere coz it’s very strong. VERY strong smelling. One spray and they can smell u for miles. Wtf is in this perfume....lol
Amy Martin ohhhhh yeah! You’re about to have a legendary perfume in your collection. Not for the faint hearted though. A few sprays can make you feel old school glamorous! Enjoy!
Great review! I used to wear this late 90's early 00's Love it! Watching your review brought back memories of another intoxicating fragrance in this vein (in my opinion) Rive Gauche. I love it probably more than Opium. Have you tried it & if so do you like it? ;)
+SilkOil Hello! Yes I have tried it but quite a while ago. It's a bit rough that one isn't it? My mum used to wear that when I was younger also. I'll never forget that bottle. :)
Classic, deffo try it! It's a legendary perfume that most people would call "dated" but it paved the way (and stole the idea of a few predecessors) for many Oriental perfumes which came after it.
Could this layer w Dior Homme Intense do u think? The powdery scent of Dior Homme Intense maybe could balance this out some (not that it needs any balance). Maybe I am out of my mind
is the edp here a higher concentration of the original edt or a new formulation? because I used the edt before years ago. and I'm not sure if they went the hypnotic poison edp route where it's newer formulation with old edt DNA added
Hmm they definitely have a difference in smell. The EDT it much spicier to me,and the EDP smoother and more focused on resins! They are still distinctly Opium though. I'm not sure about the strength!
Honestly, for me it was a “love at first sniff” just like how they say “live at first sight”. As you have mentioned, it has a citrus opening, I love perfume that smells citrus. Could you please suggest me something from Chanel? Coz I wanna get a Chanel Perfume but I don’t like No 5 and Chance, the mademoiselle isn’t very unique either, so I can’t figure out which one from Chanel should I buy 🤔
but when I sprayed opium it had like a masculine barber shop smell which personally I like and dont mind that smell but it smells dated but to me thats not a bad thing but on an older woman they might not feel feminine enough while wearing this.. so my question to you is does it tone down and does that vanilla start to come up top towards the mid to dry down to sweetened and smooth out the fragrance from its radiant opening? cause if so then ill warn my grandma just give it a chance and dont spray alot just one spray is all you need but o domt think she uses more then 2-3 sprays max..
It's a pretty aggressive fragrance on my skin, It doesn't really tone down at all, it gets less spicy and more warm when it's dry but it's quite the beast really. It never reveals lots of vanilla either, it's more about the resins and ambery notes. It does smell dated yes, only because it was made a long time ago, it's a classic but not to everyones taste for sure. It's a tough one!!!
yeah that thing is a beastly ass fragrance I can see that lasting 24plus hrs easily... but I don't hate it but I see it fitting a woman my grandmas age at 79 what do you think? I just don't want her to tell me she doesn't like it lol.. it takes a lot to pick out a fragrance for someone it has more meaning then a card or flowers in my opinon..
its definitely a mature fragrance wouldn't you agree? I don't think it smells old ladies ish either but it has a mature masculinity to it in a weird kind of way but not bad.. I just hope she likes it.. I was gunna buy her channel but they didn't sell chanel on the fragrance website online so I got her ysl I figured that's a reputable fragrance company.. I still love ysl over mostly all my designer fragrances but since I heard loreal or lancome or somebody cheap owns them I understand why the fragrance community is so upset with all there flankers..
atleast we know the fragrance last lol...I don't think even ysl can water that beast down they can fill it with half water and that sucker would still be a beast lol..
and I think its edp so that might be even worse lol. I only buy womens fragrances in edp since there highly readily available unlike mens colognes there all fucking edt and last 4-6 hrs if your lucky although mine last about 6-9 hrs on my skin even though I cant smell them on me after abut 3 everybody else tells me I smell good like after 6 hrs in close range so I'm skeptical.
Take my words as a crazy conspiracy theory from a lunatic in the internet 😂: "Opium is a flanker to the Sacred Oil mentioned in the book of exodus, and shouldn't been recreated by anyone outside the aaronic priesthood." It's 1 part of myyrh, half part of cinnamon , half fragrant roots calamus (which is described as orris here), 1 part of cassia, a spicy flower (which is described here as carnation, a spicy flower) exo 30:22-25 Then the Lord said to Moses, 23 “Take the following fine spices:(A) 500 shekels[a] of liquid myrrh,(B) half as much (that is, 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon,(C)250 shekels[b] of fragrant calamus,(D) 24 500 shekels(E)of cassia(F)-all according to the sanctuary shekel-and a hin[c] of olive oil. 25 Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer.
I got black opium and I’m living with regrets. It smells nice but it smells like something everyone smells like. Plus I’m not fond of the pink pepper note.
+ouch110 Fragrance Reviews yes its still available at least here in the philippines and the usa. i hope you can try imari since it reminds me a lot of opium at least the recent formulation. its just that imari classic in a red box/bottle doesn't project as much as opium because of edc concentration. but still strong for most of the young ones that's why its popular among matured ladies and some men. imari classic is like a cross between chanel no. 5 and opium but dries down into an incensy/musky/vanilla.
+ouch110 Fragrance Reviews maybe through an avon lady or via ebay if imari classic isn't offered on your country. i think its readily available since its very affordable. i hope you can grab one if someday you've find it. thanks
Just wondering I’ve purchased a Yves Saint Laurent Opium Eau De Toilette Bottle and it looks like the one you’ve got in your review, however your RU-vid video says it’s an EDP perfume. Just wondering if they’re the same? As my bottle EDT looks just like the one in your video. Is there a difference? x
Hello!! There is a difference yes. The EDP has a black twisty down the middle that covers the spray tube and the EDT doesn't. In terms of smell? I had a colleague that wore the EDT in the new formula and I found it to be much more spicy and spiky, where the EDP is smoother. :) Deffo try them both out.
Yes, a lady at my work had the EDT and I thought it was beautiful, then i got the EDP and while it's still beautiful it is different. Much smoother and less spicy but still great!
It's marketed for women, but last time I checked? Resins and smoke and heavy oriental greatness.can be worn by anyone. Try it! It's one of the best classic orientals ever made. :)
DEKIKK unfortunately my mum lives 50 miles from me hehe. I usually give her lots of mine when I'm over them though. Awww. She loves perfume as much as me. :)
