You nailed it! I was messing with it at 2 am this morning and found a metal ball bearing on the garage floor. That was the problem and I guess it fell out and I never noticed. Thank you.
make sure you've bent the lock washer down and if you have the right socket get a mate to hold the basket and tap the wrench with a hammer it should get it off, thats how i did it anyway
DONT GIVE US A TASTE BUT NOT HAVE THE WHOLE THING UP!!!!!!! lol i wish i had the money to do this. Once i get out of the Marine Corps im gonna rebuild 2 strokes with ALLL new aftermarket parts. loved the yz250f vids cant wait to see how the 125 will be. you should put a 02+ tank on it and make it match your 250f
I ended up taking the clutch apart (my first time) I put in new a basket, plates and springs so if there is any kind of pulling now I know for sure that it is my clutch cable but it feels really good compared to how it was before I changed it. It wasn't cheap but well worth it in the long run :D
this video came at exactly the right time, i just opened the clutch on my kx. basket had some real bad grooves, but its gone back in until i can afford a replacement. watching this i was like "are yz's really that different?! what holds the hub on?!" LOL great videos man
Hey johnny I have a crf250r 05 and It wants to go forward abit while in gear with clutch fully in. Is it because I got groves in my basket aswell or is it my plates? And if I were to file the groves down would it hold up for a long time or do a have to redo it after awhile? Should I buy a new basket or file the old one?
i took my clutch apart to see how worn it was but it was fine, and not im trying to get it back together. the clutch was adjusted right but i never took notice of were it was. i can get it on but it is way to easy to pull and im not sure if its engaging or not. i have no oil in it yet could that be it or do i half to adjust the clutch cable.
Great video man, hope you can help me. I've had trouble with my clutch so I change new friction/clutch plates and springs and once I finished the clutch cable was loose so tightened it and now really hard to pull and when in gear(not running) the clutch won't disengage it and when running just stalls when bang it into gear. I did notice that one of the bolt holes in the clutch basket was bent a bit once I out the pressure plate on. Any ideas please??
Hey! Great Video! I have a 1985-ish Yamaha YZ80. My whole engine is pretty far gone. I just bought the bike for a song and the carb has been off it for at least a couple years. It also has been sitting outside in the Okanagan (BC, Canada), which means snow. There is rust on the top end/main bearing area. I need to take everything off, and split the cases to clean it and see the damage. What gears do I have to make sure i get right for timing/whatnot. I am really scared that I will take the thing apart (no problems there) and then not be able to get it to run after I put it back together. I have access to take just about everything off right now, I just would like to know what I have to do. I wish you had a YZ80 video series! I have watched pretty much all your YZ125 videos.
Edison Swartz Sounds like a cool little find! The main thing is to make sure the tranny gears and forks go back together correctly. Everything else should pretty much fall into place. I'd take pics, videos or whatever you need to make sure it goes back together the same.
Do you know what the spring lengths are? I need to know whether mine are in spec. The fool I bought the bike from was missing one of the springs. I'm trying to decide whether I should just buy a new set of springs. Thanks for all the uploads btw, you have been a huge help.
***** Thanks. I went ahead and bought all new ones. If you could give me another piece of advice. I am now at this part, and I am noticing that my crankshaft is not spinning as freely as yours. It takes some decent effort to have it move and it's worrying me. Any idea what this might be?
SuperStud171 Oh cool. It depends on a few things.. Make sure you have no binding between the case and bearings, also depends on the bearings. Assuming they are new, some bearings have thicker grease than others. Assuming you have new bearings. If they are old, they could need replacing.
***** The bearings are new. I'm realizing that it's the oil seal on the stator side of the crank that slows it down, even after using plenty of lithium grease. Thanks a ton for your help!
the selector in the middle of the clutch basket with grooved teeth should it have play mine goes in and can be pulled out but dosent come out but im haveing trouble putting clutch cover back on and haveing trouble getting it to pull seems like its grabing but not enough eny help would be greatly appriciated
i am going to rebuild my clutch sometime soon but i was wandering how tight are the bolts suppose to be on the clutch cover? my yz125 is a 1999 but i have no service manuals.
I don't mean to backtrack you on an older video, I know your in the process of uploading another build. Just wanted to start off by saying you have absolutely amazing tutorial videos on motors. Anyways, I have a 1996 Suzuki RM250 and I realized that the teeth on my Gear Shifter Shaft (what the actual gear shifter connects to) are screwing up the teeth on my gear shifter. I don't want to band-aid it by welding or JB welding so I decided I'm going to order the new shaft and try to install it myself. I'm curious to know IF I can possibly just remove the clutch cover and basket and be able to remove and replace the gear shifter shaft without having to pull the motor out of the frame and split the cases??
Have a quick question, I am about to replace the basket on my own 06 KX250 noticed it was slipping badly and stalling when being put into gear, had a look and the basket was grooved badly but has been filed before so am just going to replace with a new one so I don't end up with a load of chatter. The pressure plate and inner hub also have signs of wear around the edges, is this a big problem? Or can I just get away with the basket and maybe new frictions, I can feel the edge on both the pressure plate and inner hub, having them skimmed would be even more hassle. Thanks!
hey my gears arent shifting properly, i press the shift lever up and down and nothing happens but some ugly sounds, i have taken the disks out of the clutch basket and im up to the big nut, how do i get this offf ???????? i dont have many tools, shifter , few, spanners etc ...........
Can you send a manual for me too? i have an yz 125 from 1993. I would not clutch out, so i did as you did. But it still doesnt work, it keeps in gear when i am holding down the clutch lever. Maybe you could help?
One of my springs came loss off of the piece you screw it onto and made a hole in the cover and broke a piece of the pressure plate and the piece you screw the springs onto do you think i can glue the piece back onto the pressure plate and screw the spring post back onto the screw and still be fine to ride
So I have a 1996 Yamaha YZ125 and when I pull the clutch in it feels like it's going all the way in but when I kick it into gear it's obvious that it's not engaging. When I put it in gear and just try to push it while the bike is off it doesn't want to push forward either. How do I adjust the clutch on this bike?
@@Johnnysshop I adjusted it as much as I could and it still does this, my basket does have grooves in them but I didn't think bad enough to cause that. Wouldn't grinding them make them have a lot of play?
i was riding the other day and my bike locked up i looked down and the clutch cover had 2 good sized holes in it when i took it apart the clutch was totally grenaded the bike still runs perfectly normal any ideas of what happened
I have a 1999 Husky WR125 and I removed the clutch plates. When reinstalling the plates, the lifter... I believe that is what it is called, no longer moves. When I pull the clutch lever, there is no tension and the lifter is not moving. Any idea as to what bonehead thing I did? Thank you.
my engine is also pulled out right now (2000 yz125) and everytime i try to loosen my pressure plate bolts the whole basket and piston rotate. what could i do to keep them from rotating so i can get my presure plate off?
looking fo a little help....I have a yz125 2001 and just changed the stock clutch with a Tusk clutch and spring kit. I also filed down the gooves on the basket lightly and now the bike stalls when I pin the throttle in 3rd or higher gear. it shifts great through all gears unless I pin it hard. I have to stop or roll start it in 1st and it starts right back up easily. Any ideas???
Turns out after taking it to the local Yamaha shop they did some research and found out that they had to order a special baffle plate that goes in the carb due to the fmf fatty pipe I also put on it. It was starving for fuel even going from a 450 main jet to a 460. I got it tuned very close but it still had a slight sputter at full throttle for a second, so I took to the shop. Thanks for the response though. Oh and I have Lucas oil in it.
So now they are telling me that they think the kill switch might be causing the problem. I have to pick it up today and do a test run but its snowing heavily lol figures
Hi mate., I was wondering if you knew what the physical differences between the 'up to 2004' clutch baskets for YZ125's and the update 2005 onwards baskets? Is there a reason I cant run an 04 basket in an 05?
***** The only piece of info worth a scrap I found on this was on ThumperTalk Forum where a member said he had a customer who kept shattering the '05 basket around the inner gear part., he noticed the '04 was beefier and never had that problem and fitted it confirming to himself it would physically fit however he did not run it as it was a customers bike. I have done some preliminary comparisons and all I can find is the '04 basket runs 6 dampeners while '05 runs 8 dampeners. Probably as a result of the '05 update to the engine. I'm yet to confirm his findings that it will physically fit., in the advent it does how critical would you think the 2 extra damper rubbers are?
Hey I have a quick question. So I have a 98 yz125 also, and when I would be in gear and pull in the clutch it would not disengage unless I held it at a high rpm, so I put new friction plates and steels in, and it's still doing the same thing. What else could I do to stop it?
+Johnnysshop hi I have just rebuilt my yz125 99' and when I have put in my clutch back in. when I put the bike in gear ( not running ) thats fine but when I clutch in it wont go into neutral easy again not running will this be because of grooves in my basket or am I missing something plates and steels look good. also when the basket is in the correct position will the clutch spin ? many thanks
Dude That awesome Ur Basically almost Done once u get the motor finished wish I had the skill to be able to take it apart and rebuild it!!! NoIng My Dumbass I would Loose So many things hahah
hey i have a 2002 yamaha yz 125 and I'm looking to buy a clutch cover but i can only find ones for 05-15 bikes.. i was wondering if anyone knows if they will fit a 2002?
+Alex Cooper Pretty sure it won't but here is one on eBay www.ebay.com/itm/1999-YZ125-OUTER-CLUTCH-COVER-2002-2003-2004-1996-1997-1998-2000-2001-/111777920666?fits=Model%3AYZ125&hash=item1a067bb69a&vxp=mtr
A guy is trying sell me a cr 85 honda and he says he replaced the clutch how can i tell if its bin properly installed and if he knows what he's doing ?
Wait I really thought this was the underbone Y125Z hahaha I just realized it is the dirt bike YZ125 I was confused, I thought that bike were really made to America
Have you got an email address ? Or something I can send you some pics I have a 94 yz125 and can’t figure out if something is missing behind the push rod as it’s loose so when I pull the clutch it just bottoms out on the case and doesn’t pull the pressure plate off
Great video man! Im trying to help out a friend and need the torque specs for the 5 or 6 clutch pack bolts. Bike is 93 yz 125. If you or anyone reading this has that info, id really appreciate it. My buddy would too thanks!
i have a yz125 and i have replaced 3 clutch rods all of them snapped and even tried a 07 clutch rod still broke and cant figure out why do you have any idea>
***** well i read it could be a transmission bearing on the left side of the cases where the end of the clutch rod is could be trashed or vibrating to the point that it snaps i already have it all apart just needa split the cases but have to get a case splitter so if it doesnt fix it i have no idea what will
+Johnnysshop and i found out it was the exact bearing i thought was shot and the shift stopper was screwed which i think may have been the cause of it somehow
Need help? Have a. 06 yz125 when bike is ticking over, a weird rattling like noise is in it, when I pull in the clutch it disappears, Amd when I leave the clutch out, it's rattles a bit. Thanks....
