Edey is an extremely intelligent player as well. He is going to understand exactly what he has to do to succeed in the nba and work hard at it. His defensive improvements in the last year alone are very impressive. It’s crazy to me people think that people don’t think he’ll carve out a spot in the nba, especially if he gets on a team that isn’t afraid to go against the grain.

I’ve heard him speak & he fits the heat culture. He’ll weigh 280ish instead of 300lbs & be a great compliment to the defense. He gets boards, has a nice hook that could be deadly one day & might even put a cap on Jokic

Definitely one thing to note on stretching the floor is last year when he went through the process he showed he can hit them fairly consistently from NBA range, Purdue and Painter just don’t ask him to do it, but give him time to develop he has a nice looking shot and could probably be a 30% 3pt shooter especially since defenses will likely be sagging off him

Atlanta hawks fan here! Hella excited for our first 1st overall pick! A lot of our fans are sold on Sarr, however given the size and lack of rebounding the hawks have. I feel like Zach is our guy. I can see him turning into a baby Jokic. Trae using him a lot in the pick and roll. After seeing him shoot today in the combine, if we work on that we stretch him (not a lot) but enough to open the floor for Trae and others to work. I’m mostly focused on his size, rebounding and second chance points. Also he beat Sarr is agility drills today 👀 Also think about the defensive pressure he would take off Trae allow the man to beat him because he knows he has edey Johnson or capela behind him! He’s got a soft touch and the control in the paint is BEAUTIFUL! Dunno why his draft stock is so low… I don’t want Sarr 😢

One thing that was not mentioned is that he only started playing basketball in high school. His learning curve has been steep, as evidenced by his improvement at Purdue. As was mentioned, Purdue definitely does not run any kind of NBA motion system, therefore we do not really know how he might do in that kind of set up. Given his relative newness to the game and how much he has improved over just the past few years he could really pick this up and be a completely different player. As was said, he's not stiff, can run the floor and is smart. A team that could see him as a development project, perhaps spending a year on one of the development teams, he could, as many have said, turn into an absolute steal.

Stock has risen to lottery projections following another masterful performance in game 2 of March Madness.

Get Zach drafted as a first round pick to the clippers this off-season. His skillet and playstyle is perfect for them and he could rotate in for zubac or Daniel. I feel Zach is somewhat better than zubac at rebounding and scoring in the paint. He is a young center and can have a long career on the clippers if he lands there increasing their title odds to get a ring.

I think Zubac similarity is spot on, low ceiling but can fill a role safely on a winning team. It would be fitting to get a video about Donovan Clingan next, I think his ceiling is higher but also a safer bet for defence.

At the college basketball level his dominance is brutal, no one, except perhaps Clingan, can stop him. But I don't see an easy future for him in today's NBA. As the channel is called Floor and Ceiling, I would say that his floor is Marjanovic and his ceiling is Zubac.

I do tape review for 3 nba advance scouts. I had Edey requested by all 3. All 3 have a top 10 pick slotted. All 3 give me their lists in order of importance. Edey was 1 on all 3 lists. This was 2 months ago before the tournament. I got all his games and practices. Edey is Jekyll in game and Hyde in the practice tape. In open runs, hes RUNNING, switching to the perimeter to defend, and consistently hitting jumpers out to 19 feet. I give the good ones code names . Zach was "Frank" as in Frankenstein. He's a freak, dude. He has Joker's game right now. Its a god awful draft. He's the logical 1. Do not be stunned if he goes 1 overall. Watch Sheed and Tyler and Gils Arena. They're starting to push him. There's nobody in this draft except Edey. Ive done this since 06(worst draft ever, statistically. Not a single star and 7/10 were out of the league after 5 years) and this draft is exponentially worse. Edey's safe: Durable and experienced and he averages 70 percent from the stripe. He can absolutely shoot. His passing is much better than you've seen. Trust me, hes the best player in this draft. Youve only seen half his game. You'll see.

Because of his trajectory of improvement, I think any NBA team who passes him up is going to regret it in the long run. He should go early in the first round. JMO.

I'd be interested in how you compare Zach to Poeltl? I see his shot blocking and rebounding and his entire offensive package as far superior. FT% & even his shot and it's potential (I don't rule him out as a future shooter) are better. Poeltl is a pilon away from the basket like Zach will be. Poeltl is a decent passer and I think a smart guy like Zach can also be decent or better in the future. I don't really see it as that close to be honest...especially when you consider ceiling.

You got some things right but missing on a few. First you have to realize he didn't start playing basketball until he was in his. But bc of his experience in baseball & hockey he has excellent footwork & hands which absolutely translates into NBA. So he went from learning for first time in hs to only get a handfull of minutes and being ranked in the 400s to learning college ball, coming off bench, starting to NPOY. Thats tremendous growth in short period and there are typically 40+ Sevenfooters in D1 every year that have played their whole lives and come nowhere close to this with more than double/triple the experience. Point is, Zack is very hard work, learns quickly & exceptionally skilled. But lets keep it real, unless 80s/90s rules & referring come back its safe to say Zack is looking at a role position in the NBA or dominate overseas. Many of the factors you mentioned that are different between college & NBA ALL players need to adjust to not just Zack. NBA court is more open & spread out than college giving him more room to go 1 on 1 & more court to pass out of post with. With that said the length, speed & quickness is at another level in NBA. He will need to become a little quicker in his decision making, more Zip on his passes & improve from a high post facilitator (a la Dramond Green). No doubts he can adjust to these things and he can be an asset to teams to come in and bang with guys like Embiid, Joker, Lopez, etc...use up some fouls, wear on those guys, get a foul or 2 on them, load your best shooter on same side to force 1on1 or leave 3pt shooter wide open. He is also very well conditioned and won't play 30min in NBA but could give a team like Miami or GSW a large center off the bench 8-15min a game to help when playing teams with other bigs. Plus he is a solid mid-70s FT shooter & he will get fouled in NBA this is also a plus. He will probably go between 27-37 in draft. He does have a solid jumper that is not used at college level for obvious reasons, but will be more of a tool he can use in NBA to expand his game to help give him longevity. But his conditioning, never been injured, strong, high IQ, great attitude & quick learner all great factors that help separate him from other larger 7-footers in past.

Would be great to see him go to Toronto. They already have RJ Barrett.

Edey's role in the NBA is complicated to evaluate. On the one hand he is an absolutely dominant player in the NCAA because of his size, wingspan and weight, qualities that Purdue has been able to use very well. He also seems to be a tenacious, hard-working player who evolves every year. The problem is that he has characteristics that are difficult to adapt to the current NBA. For example, his defense is effective because he takes up a lot of space in the paint, but will he be as useful in the NBA with a faster and more open game where he will have to defend three-pointers? can he adapt to a team where he is a bench player? can he play today without a minimum of long-range shooting? He also lacks a weapon that would be fundamental for him: the pass. I don't know, maybe in the right team and with the right role he can be very useful, but he generates a lot of doubts in me.

I think he'd be a good fit for the raptors-good mentors around him.

Perhaps a lazy comparison but Yao Ming with longer arms. Enormous size and touch. You make a great point, if he can gravitate toward maximizing his potential in the PnR and moving his feet on the perimeter defensively, he'll absolutely play in the league. The ability to knock down his free throws and set great picks are a huge asset in his tool box. I'll be glad when the league revises the defensive rules again bringing more of the conventional big back into the game. It's unfortunate a player as talented as Kofi Cockburn for example has to play in Japan and Korea because the current rules of the NBA largely diminishes his strengths.

I like his firey attitude, work ethic, competitiveness, and toughness-all those intangibles you can't teach, but which are missing in so many spoiled, entitled NBA players these days like Deandre Ayton, Ben Simmons, etc. who had all the physical tools to be dominant players but turned out to be soft prima donnas and bad locker room guys. The thing I love about Zach is that he has that dawg in him, but he is humble and unassuming. How well you do in any profession is, to a great extent, a function of those intangibles more than your inherent gifts. Just look at Damian Lillard. I really would like to see the Blazers take Zach, since we haven't had a dominant big man since Oden and Pryzbilla, and I feel like we are going to need someone like Zach who can get the opposing Wemby/Holmgren into foul trouble if we want to compete in the new West. Ayton just isn't gonna get it done but he can thrive at the 4. That being said, I doubt Portland will make such a smart move as drafting Edey because this whole fanbase and front office is retarded and almost always makes idiotic picks like taking Oden over Durant or Collins over Bam.

I want him to go to the timberwolves. The biggest threat they have in the west is the nuggets and while they won game 7 the reality is they dont really have an answer for joker. Not only that Rudy fouled and CAT sat out most of the 4th because he was in foul trouble. Yes, i get you still have Reid, but come finals what if someone is injured you are gonna need a big that is big enough to guard joker and this is where i come to my point Luka Garza is 6'10 and only 240p. He is too small to effectly guard joker 1 on 1. Edey doesnt need to be as good as joker, just better than Garza. Plus with the new cba rules and the fact Ant is gonna be on a max deal that roster is gonna get very expensive in the coming years. Getting Edey on a 4 year rookie contract is gonna keep the roster cheap. Also if Edey ends up having a better NBA game then the doubters expect he future proofs you for when Rudy retires, if he isnt any better than Garza just because of his size he will be more useful in the event of injuries, rotations and load management.

How does that translate to the NBA? Yeah he dominates college players, but he has no shot and he's not particularly quick. Even bigs in the NBA can hit 3 pointers.

He has some neuromuscular ability, troll height, immense push power (he has extremely muscley legs), and good touch near the basket. Easy 30 ppg with over 60 pct shooting with 3pg blocks
