Director Zack Snyder has been praised for his "guy" films, "300" and "Watchmen," but now he's giving the girls some time to shine in his kick-ass new thrill ride, "Sucker Punch." The film focuses on a young girl (Emily Browning) who is institutionalized by her wicked stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the facility. The movie stars Browning, Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, and Jena Malone -- just to name a few of the ladies that kept things interesting on set.
Tribute's Bonnie Laufer caught up with Zack in Los Angeles to find out what it was like having so many beautiful women around him, his stunning vision for the film, his unusual casting choices, and she also got some scoop on his next film, "Superman: Man of Steel."

That's why Chris Nolan choose Snyder to direct Man of Steel. Because Man of Steel isn't Nolan's visual style, how matter serious it looks. That's why he wrote the movie

Just watched this movie, to me this story shows the hidden evil of human sex trafficking today, the end was to fight. Thought it was profound. Don't know Snyders actual intention. This movie should raise the awareness of evil of what's going on in reality.

Sucker Punch is one of the most complex and intelligent movies in film history. It's like Inception for people that don't need everything spoon fed to them like infants. And lol@Nolan being a technically gifted director

@DMCMaster550 Okay man, if you don't think Nolan is that great fine. I'll just say that I think it's undeniable that he's as technically gifted as any director, his scripts are thought out and carefully written and has an underappreciated skill for casting. No way would I ever say that about the guy who made "Sucker Punch"!

LOL If you are going to make extreme statements at least back them up. Just listen to how I sound when I make statements like you do: Jason Bay is a great story teller and should be the only one in Hollywood allowed to make movies. The rest are hacks. Especially David Fincher who just simply knows how to point, shoot and take credit away from the screenwriters. Fincher made Seven, and nothing of note afterwards. Don't I sound foolish too? LOL

There are people still discussing Inception, not it's eye candy visuals (which some claimed it lacked), they're talking about it's plot. Just because Inception is interested more in it's story than the characters doesn't mean it lacks substance. How you watch a Nolan movie and think it's overly stylized is beyond me. Sounds to me like you don't pay attention to the story much. But If you want good stylized stuff please see Japan, Takashi Miike will clue you in to what a hack Synder is.

the fact that this website is called "tribute" is no coincidence. they got this girl to actually say: "Mr. Snyder, my god...CONGRATULATIONS. *mumbles* I just don't know how you keep topping yourself!" and it goes ON like this. This movie is crazily ridiculous. come on.

Synder's movies introduce him as a visionary director -- that's what I'm referring to. Only a hack would do that, or a movie studio who knows they're trying to push a hack off to the general public as something more than he really is. Did you see Sucker Punch? Horrible! Great directors don't make horrible movies like that. And he bites Nolan's inception with a story within a story and it comes out as one big mess, and yet you've got praise for Snyder and none for Nolan?

You posted this 8 years ago but I’m trying to understand because I’ve seen this movie many times over the years. I actually kinda shut off during this interview and started reading comments. I think you have great knowledge on movies. I just finished it again. This movie to me is one of those, every time I watch it I see something I missed. This movie is great, probably the best Snyder has done.

I see how Snyder has cut off good production. I think this movie though in itself can be whatever you take it as which is nice. Other Snyder films, you get what you get. Sucker Punch though is something you can take and make it your own, I’ve been watching videos on it being explained and they are all different, not a single video has the same directive as the last. This film was a great exploration into many people’s own mind and how they perceived it. I don’t even think inception had the same effect.

Handing off Superman to this buffoon is the only mistake Chris Nolan has ever made in the film industry! I'm betting the decision was out of his hands, another bone head move made by production companies. To think of all the great directors who were considered, they went with this a-hole / self-proclaimed "visionary".
