Great video, so informative. It's so neat to see all of the behind the scenes activity that goes into producing the foods we eat. Thank you for sharing and thank you Floyd Zaiger for all your work to bring us such wonderful flavored fruit.

Thanks for featuring Mr. Zaiger. I feel like men and women with his passion for developing new cultivars aren't much appreciated these days. Growing new and worthwhile varieties from seed is a substantial commitment of time, space, and resources, all for the sake of (maybe) providing the world with an enjoyable eating experience. People who put in this kind of spade work are generally taken for granted by today's consumers. It's nice of you to give credit.

I know this is a tough question but what are the top 5 most intense complex-flavored plums out there? Ones that once you bite into it, you just have to say "MMMMMMM!!!!!!" I don't like cloying sweet which overpowers all other subtle interesting flavors. Any recommendations I should look into?
@DaveWilsonTrees
@DaveWilsonTrees 3 года назад
Most straight plums don’t have much complex flavor. Superior plum is my favorite. For complex flavor go with Pluots- Flavor Supreme, Flavor King, Geo Pride and Flavor Finale. Also our Pluerry varieties, Candy Heart and Flavor Punch.
@ericrosales9722
@ericrosales9722 3 года назад
@@DaveWilsonTrees Is Superior that much more tasty than fully tree-ripened Red Heart, Italian, or Mirabelle?
@DaveWilsonTrees
@DaveWilsonTrees 3 года назад
I think so. Other notable plums- Elephant Heart, Emerald Beaut, Laroda, Burgundy, Bavays Green Gage.

+Dave Wilson Nursery Hi! I am a french Canadian fruit tree enthusiast. I have a collection of well over 140 different kinds of berries fruits and nuts here in zone 5. I have also planted a small u-pick orchard on my buddy's farm with over 40 different varieties of cherries, plums, pears, Asian pears and a few apples. I don't know what you consider to be people working in the fruit tree industry but I would do anything to be able to do a Zaiger fruit tree tour. It is a life goal of mine. What would it take for me to be able to do this?

Tom, great info and nice video. After you find a fruit that you think Dave Wilson should produce, Do you buy the cuttings off that particular tree to start your own to grow?

Great Video. Looks like the trees are planted pretty close. How far apart are these trees planted?
@DaveWilsonTrees
@DaveWilsonTrees 9 лет назад
Byron Mccollum Some blocks are at 6 foot spacing with 13 foot rows, and others are 8 x 14.

Tom, i'm interested to know - What is the process DWN takes to scale up a newly picked variety and go to market?

Just bought a few peach trees can I backfill the planting hole with some compost?
@DaveWilsonTrees
@DaveWilsonTrees 5 лет назад
No, don’t do that. Don’t add anything to the planting hole, apply it all to the top after you plant.

Are dave wilson working on releasing subtropical fruit like passion fruit, sapote, and guava? I am currently able to grow Frederick passion fruit, venon sapote, and strawberry guava in oakley ca.
@DaveWilsonTrees
@DaveWilsonTrees 7 лет назад
No, we are in the wrong climate for subtropical fruits. We only grow deciduous stone fruit, nuts and shade trees.

How long is pollen viable for? can i save pollen for pollination of a variety that hasnt bloomed yet?
@DaveWilsonTrees
@DaveWilsonTrees 7 лет назад
Joey Ingarra Pollen viability is very inconsistent. Most pollen is usable for about a week to ten days if kept dry and cool. Some pollen could last for months if stored properly. The sooner you can use it the better. Always best if used the same day as collected.
