They all started somewhere and I wonder how many people witnessed this and then when he was on worldwide tours thought back to this day , history in the making.
@@w.e.s. yes its digital. The first digital audio on the market came in the form of the video disk...long before the CD. Camcorders recorded video in digital (digital tape) along with the audio. To be digital back in the 90's was a huge improvement but we still had crappy tv's, cheap walkman headphones, crappy microphones, etc.
Instead of being in the couch writing bich coments go and do better !then you can talk. Iam not even a Zakk fan but i do respect what he does and done and as a guitar player i know its hard to play guitar and sing at the same time, how many guitar virtuoso you see singing? Ppl in these days instead of focusing on the positive things they just prefer bitchin about the negative shit.i would love to watch a video of you trying to do that. So ppl like you could comment about it. Middle finger!
The fact that this is 93 and zakk had already played live in Moscow in front of thousands of soviets and people just chillin.. that’s fucking rock and roll
I was in my prime playing in bands when he got huge with Ozzy. It wasn’t really that it was the sheer unchained wrath from his Les Paul plugged in to a Marshall on 11. The fusion of his heavy drop d stuff and the country side of him fused with the neo classical parts of his solos that did it. His tone was just straight Les Paul into a Marshall. Couple pedals. But it was his WILD insane just balls out Palying that everyone was refreshed by
Cold Cut Combo's are awesome, Think that guitar gave Zakk the combo #'s to the safe in Ft. Knox & where Jimmy Huffa is buried after getting shredded by the Wylde man.
I was there! I remember the music store he is playing in front of brought him in for a “clinic”. He pulls up in a limo with a case of beer, shreds for an hour, gets back in limo and leaves. Rock star level 10.
Andrew Hively saw him way back for one of these clinics in Virginia Beach. Scott Travis was on drums(his home town) and Andrew McNealy of Sea of Souls on bass. What an epic show. Zak smoked a brand new head from the sponsoring music shop.
Im a stage manager from So Calif. I've had the pleasure of working with Zakk numerous times over the years. Super nice guy and very professional....plus the man can really play. Rock on Zakk 🎸
@@Keithhatesy0u By definition yes, BUT when I refer to PA I'm talking about systems ranging from 6000 - 100 000 Watts of power. A typical small vocal amplifier is rated from 150 - 400 Watts of power.
It was like that in the 70s. Just amps and a simple PA for the vocals. Nothing was miked most of the time. It was glorious. Nothing compares to that sound and feel. The interaction between guitar and Amp at high volume is thing in itself.
Agree 100%. I started playing drums in 1976 at 12, and was in bands all my life. We played many gigs just like this. The truth of the matter is you gotta play in front of 10 like you were performing in front of 10 thousand. You have to love playing regardless the venue.
Benji Arehart hell yea and especially use it as a way to dial in your live sound. And have fun while your drums are micd, record off the board etc. Might as well make the most out of it.
Amen to that. Actually there probably 1000 of them out there but they can't find a band to paly with. The kids today are not even getting together to play taylor swift songs
With Ozzy, he would always be a small fish in a big pond. He walked away and did gigs like this to become the big fish in his own pond. Tons of respect to him; his solo stuff, Pride and Glory, and Black Label Society would never have happened if he hadn’t dealt with having to play in front of Subway in a strip mall for a couple gigs lol.
I totally get what you are saying. He got to lay down guitar tracks and if Ozzy didn't like them they weren't a song.He definitely seems like a guy who needed his own thing to be in charge of.
@@tacob69 right; he HATED one album where Ozzy had guys come in and write but it was ultimately Ozzy’s call to do that. With BLS, Zakk is the main attraction and calls the shots. I honestly think it was good that he did his own thing but also did some more work with Ozzy later on.
It’s amazing how much of “his” sound he already had at that early stage in his career. Sounds like he has a chorus on there too which he favors. It’s like he was always the stuff of legends. Rock on
You can tell Zakk just loves playing live. He could be playing to an empty egg carton and would still have pure joy in his heart and play just as aggressive. Similar to Eddie, may God rest his soul, would always be smiling when he had his guitar in his hands.
When I saw black label last month, he comes out looking like a badass you dont want to Fuck with, but by the end you could see he just loves what he is doing and is a big teddy bear
Thankfully he brought his recorder. I have 6 hours inside Woodstock 94 on VHF I recorded and just found a couple months ago. Thought my ex wife tossed it 14 years ago. Gonna digitalize it soon. Hope it works 🙏
F'sho. And this reminds me of all the old-timers (my peers) who complain of today's youngsters recording live performances with their high-def cell cameras instead of "being in the moment" to which I say "they're doing both! They're into it AND documenting their show for them to watch in decades to come." I then tell them that if we all had HD video cameras in our pockets in the 1980s and 1990s, we'd SURE damn well be recording the event too!
Holy Shit !! This just rips ! I saw Zakk a couple time’s electric and once saw him Acoustic in Arizona,he’s an amazing player with massive talent! This footage is from his early days young and fucking spunky ! Both of the solos filled with speedy pentatonic runs and pinch harmonics and Zakk always adding additional notes in between! This is what it’s all about folks Rock N Roll Peace ☮ from Hawaii 🎸🍄🌺🌋🐠🌸🌴🏝🏄🏻♂🐬🤙⛵⛴🍺🐳
I believe this is without question the era of when he formed Pride and Glory but that drummer and bass player are not Zakks drummer and bass player. The Originals were Lomenzo and D'Angelo from White Lion
@@robertmciver817This is in front of a music store called Scanlan Music that was in Novi MI, the bass player was a teacher at the store and I assume the drummer was also a local guy but I’m not sure.
I just saw Zakk play behind his head, no joke, for over 25 straight minutes during one of the most outrageous solos in Camden, NJ in 2018. He walked through the entire crowd, all the way out to those sitting on lawn seats and played for at least 20-25 minutes, guitar behind him. It could be the record for the longest continuous behind the head solo.
Pulled up this video and recognized that parking lot right away. 12 Mile and Novi Road, right across the street from 12 Oaks Mall. Zakk just killin' it!!
And that's what separates the greats from the wanna-be's. The men from the boys, if you will. Just give Zakk a guitar, an amp, a place to play, and he'll show up and kill it every single time..
Zakk is a beast!!! Love his vocals and guitar playing.... he makes that things scream with delight no matter where he is..... it's the his bad ass self doing what he loves!!!😊❤❤❤
Amazing performance from this Power trio with capital P. Also love the Hendrix influence on early Zakk...they nailed it, playing casually in public in front of Subway, amazing
Almost 29 years ago and the freaking tone!!! Wow, I like this version so much more than the original War Pigs. The energy and passion..this man was born to shred :)
One thing you gotta love about this is that he gives no fu¢€ that he is only in a subway parking lot! He is playing his ever loving soul out!!! Freakin awesome!!!
Mad respect to James LoMenzo on bass here. Wylde and he were used to sold out stadiums and still did this to get Pride and Glory off the ground. Amazing humility.
That’s Emery Sears. A local Detroit guitar player that offered to play bass for the clinic. He also worked at the store that sponsored the event Scanlan Music in Novi MI. Mike Brasic on drums. Recorded by Michael Christensen another guitarist/artist from the area. No rehearsals. Back when it was fun.
I had one of the original test pressings of "pride and glory" and presented Zakk with it 8-9 years after and ask to autograph it. He was amazed that I even had it, and was like who did you know to get this? I told him and then we talked about 20 minutes. Very down to earth guy, and definitely an original. that should be reveared. Thanx, Zakk.
he's playing with the same intensity and give a shit level that SRV Jimi Hendrix and even Clapton during the cream era had. That's what makes this so fucking excellent
@@jimq.customer4526 look at some the old performances. I get it, from the radio friendly persona...but he's a beast. He runs laps around Clapton. Can't say the same ab SRV and Hendrix, they are the GOATS. I get your point though
He does so many squeels (Did I spell that right? I’m too lazy to look at spellcheck) that I call him the pig. I mean that in a good way. I’m actually a Jake fan, but I love Zakk, Randy, Brad and that other guy that was announced as Ozzy’s next guitarist, but never got a chance to record with Ozzy.
Once at OZZFEST, I saw the rest of the band take a break while Zakk played an entire song solo, one-handed, on the neck of his guitar... while he used the other hand to pour water into his mouth and blow the water into the air above his head to cool off. THE WHOLE SONG!!! I will NEVER forget having seen him play. Thank you for this post! It was so nice for this old man to rock out to his morning coffee with a true giant among guitarists.
