Hi Misha hope you’re doing well. The ZPAP M70 Underfolder (not a bolt-on underfolder stock but true underfolder rear trunion) was announced at Shot Show 2023 and was supposed to be available later in the year but did get delayed due to the Serbian arms export ban in July due to uncertainties with Kosovo where they were preparing in case of aggression. Zastava was finally able to export the model to the US in December. Btw, the handguards are US made and fashioned to look battle worn. They are new handguards.
Yep, i give a slightly abridged version of the story in this video. I didn't want to go into it too much and if i just said 'none came it' I'd automatically get someone out there arguing with me. So its always better to just say i wasn't aware of any before the batches at the end of 2023, know what i mean? I think i put my preorder in for these back in October?
Picked up my npap df back in 15 for around 530, and i must say it is a solid unit, it does not have much run time, but is very well built.I rather this one to my solid npap.I am glad to see they are bringing the underfolder back except for the price
I love the side rail! So many people whining about it! A lot of folks were saying: there’s no scope mount to use. Like of course Zastava is gonna make one for it. Others showed their ignorance by calling it non military, but it is!
@@jeffkelly201 options are good. I’m sure they’ll offer it without. They’d be foolish not to considering their cost will be lower per rifle without the rail
Sorry, my mistake. They felt surplus and the order invoice listed them as 'battlefield pickup' style or something *shrug*. Either way, what i say in the video about liking them still stands. Sometimes I'm not to hard to please.
I like the older slick sided 1mm mfg better. I know the 1.5mm thick sheet and bulged trunnion are stiffer, mechanically prone to be more accurate and resilient , the slick just looks better to me. Where I was over in the 1993 the local army were still carrying the 7.62x25 PPS43, the SKS rifle grenade launchers and even an occasional PPsh 41. I think I only saw one NCO or Officer with an actual AKMS.
Great video. I believe I'm in. Don't want to mull and over think. You're thoughts in the video were very similar to my thoughts. Thanks. I could tell it was going to get the sling! Thanks
I had both the new zpap and the old opap. While I really enjoyed the opap, I couldn't justify reaching for it over the polymer furniture Zpap(1.5mm receiver) with the chrome lined barrel. It's what I wanted my opap to be all this time.
My ZPAP M-70UF is headed back to Zastava for warranty work. The folding stock doesn't lock properly (in the folded position) and the magwell needs to tweaked to fit magazines better.
The magwell issue probably lies in with 922r somewhere like they were fitted using magpul or some other us made mag. It’s the same with a lot of the og century builds they were fitted using tapco mags . Don’t know if that is true just hearsay
Yep, class repeat after me again...."Every single manufacturer Will turn out a lemon sooner or later." We have had Benellis, HKs, and even Swiss SIGs that required warrenty work.@@gunnerjr3396
I have watched a few of your videos here and there over time and just realized I am not subscribed. I just said to myself while watching this video: "Why am I not subscribed to this guy?" Subscribed now
I have an unfired NPAP DF. With these coming into the country now the collector value of my DF will probably go down. So now I have a good excuse to shoot it. I already bought an Ultimak for it but never put in on the rifle. The plan was to run a red dot setup. By the time I got my DF the prices had started to go up. I had to pay 625 for mine. I bought my DF because of the better rear rivet location compared to the straight stock location. Supposedly the DF was not having the receiver problems that other NPAPs were rumored to have. None of my friends had any problems with their straight stocked guns. I had a VEPR in 308 with the heavy RPK receiver. That was one heavy gun. My VEPR was modified by Mark Krebs to use M14 mags. A friend made a ridiculous offer and really really wanted that rifle. Mine was a Robinson gun. I hated the Polymer furniture. Now I wish I had kept it.
I'll get one, but I'll hold out to see if they do one without a rail just because I like the classic look we typically saw in pictures and footage from in the Yugoslav Wars. I have bought the parts to put night sights on it, but still looking for a grenade sight gas block.
Honestly? You might be better off just having a really nice gun built for you from a nice condition M70AB2 parts kit. Since my OPAP looks like an M70B1 with the grenade sight, i am find with my ZPAP looking like an M70AB3 this time. Its still a legit configuration afterall.
I kinda like side rail on the underfolder. Pretty neat imo. Good choice. i would have taken the new one as well. But i still kick mtself for not grabbing a npap folder for 5 hundo Misha, i was curious if any jdi sigs will be brought in once more? If you happen to know :)
Hi Misha Nice Rifles 😊😮😊 The New Zastava Gets The Sling For Sure But I Definitely Would Change the Pistol Grips and Maybe a Dong Front Grip Handguard 😊😀
you have quite the ak collection, I have what seems to be a rather unique Zastava ZPAP, it has non bulged trunion. Is this a early version before the updates? I heard all ZPAPs were like yours in this video but mine is quite different. Anyway, I always enjoy your videos have a good one
Mish, this gun is absolutely killing me! I need a Wasr under folder to outfit as a PM 65, to finish the Romanian collection, I’m just nervous with all these weird ass variants Century is putting out. Like you said, no chrome lined barrel, no bayonet, lug, etc.. for some reason, Romanian guns have really run my life, except for the couple I have from Kalashnikov, USA, kudos to them! OCD can be an SOB! So, with that said, I know you’re a Romanian nut too, what would you do?
Just started the video I'm thinking I would go with the zpap over the npap I've had both fixed stock versions. And ended up keeping the zastava I really liked having the bulged trunnion and chrome lined barrel and the quality control was just a little nicer. On top of that seems like the blued finish on the rifles are a deeper glossier blue which I like the look of. And I don't no if it's in my head but seems like the zpaps are gassed better he recoil isn't as snappy as the npaps. Buts that just my personal oppinion. I'm waiting to see which one Misha chooses at the end.
Very surprised zastave didn't put one of there walnut pistol grips on there underfolders to match the handguards to keep the old-school vibes. I ordered there new akm style pattern walnut stocks to go with my surplus handguards on m zpapm70. Now I have a surplus m70 stock just sitting needing a new home I didn't like the high cheek comb on the original yugo stocks.
Anything Zastava puts on THEIR guns is correct. I don't understand you implying the possibility something a manufacturer adds to their pwn design could be incorrect. Noting also my own M70 ZPAP has the slot on the safety top, so I would presume yours without the slot to catch the bolt handle is just a manufacturing variation of the M70 ZPAP safety. I use a Russian sling and mag pouch with my own. I am not too worried about the lack of a bayonet as I have yet to need a bayonet while hunting deer or target shooting and appreciate the saving of weight without a needless bayonet mounting point or grenade sight.. :) I totally agree Zastava makes an excellent AK variation.
I was intrigued early on with under-folders, but as time went on, a side-folder seems to be the way to go. (If you want a folder at all) Good gun nonetheless.
Traded my OPAPs (they were so cheap) for Colt M6920s NIB. Only have 1 ZPAP. Bought new Century Arms Thunder Ranch AK as Christmas present to self. Put PA SLX 1X on it. About 2"ish with Norma and Belom ammo.
@ElTejon47901 Hes telling the truth. The good century guns are the WASRs, the thunder ranch is a VSKA which are known for loosing headspace. Keep a Go/No Go handy.
OPAP AB2 with grenade fromt sites is what I have from 2014. Just busted her out from the depths of the safe behind all of the Molot VEPRs. I definitely think i need a zpap underfolder.
All the OPAPs we had come in were fixed stockers in the M70B1 styling. Did a batch of UFs also come in? If so, i totally missed those.@@mattmorrison9379
Ill tag this thread back when i pull her back out of the safe and do a video on the OPAP AB2 I picked up in 2014. Checking my doc’s, I picked it up at Centerfire System, shipped BNIB. I got too many AK’s to remember all the fine details 😂🤣👍👍🇺🇸
I know little about AKs more than regular ppl but I found some AK muzzle devices that work with my only surpressor really cheap. Trying to figure out my options
On the older Century Yugo guns they reused the safety out of the full auto gun kits, and because the top cover isn't flared, you could overrun the top cover with the safety lever, which would cause the tail of the safety to bump the back of the hammer and push off causing a negligent discharge. My understanding was there was something about the auto seer that would have prevented that from happening on a full auto gun, but with a tapco G2 trigger it was a problem. Any idea if they've fixed that? Other civilian safeties that I've seen have a relief cut in the safety's tail that interacts with the trigger preventing it from being able to bump the hammer.
I can't make up my mind if I want an AR or AK more so I'm just gonna get both. I'm starting with a PSA AR and I think a 5.56 AK second. Then .308 battle rifle, 7.62x39 AK, 7.62x51 AK then on to the other fun chamberings such as 300 BLK, 8.6 BLK, and others. I need so much money haha
The problem i see with your plan is you are really pushing yourself into a lot of calibers all at once. Maybe pick a couple and if they use the same type of mag? all the better too.
@@misha5670 I should've clarified that statemeny was meant as more long term goals. Short term, I'd love to just get the AR and an AK chambered in 5.56 and I've decided this strictly from an ammunition availability standpoint. Thanks for the response!
Sir, I don’t own a battle type rifle yet, but I’m considering an m70 zpap Magpul version. What do you think? I can probably buy the Wbp jack for the same price on sale. What do you recommend?. also should I even consider a 556 AR like the m90. "Thanks
So the X & Y "dimples" are there on the 1 mm receiver to reinforce where the pins rotate and wear. For years I've been hearing that the pins aren't supposed to rotate on a 1 mm stamped receiver rifle, and if they do, it's because the original "shepherd's hook" isn't installed properly, or you are using an aftermarket retaining plate that shouldn't be used because Mikhail Kalashnikov didn't design it that way. I have the Romanian Sar-1 rifles and have always been bothered by the fact that the trigger pins rotate (the concern being that the holes will develop excessive wear and cause the trigger or hammer to become loose leading to malfunctions). Can this only happen on an improperly heat treated receiver or on a rifle with a crazy high round count? Does your Sar-1 have a rotating trigger pin Misha? So much information and attention to detail in your outstanding videos! 👍
I have many different kinds of AKs, but I have yet to add a yugo/serb Ak to my collection. What's your take on this Misha? AES10B or a Zastava? hmm... OH DEAR! I meant AES10B2! The two is veeerrry important ;)
Very different guns. So just depends? do you feel like more of an LMG or a frontline infantry rifle? o you like bipods or find they get in the way? Do you like the look of a blued finish or a phosphate type more?
Yep, there's some up/down play in the 3-4 M70UFs I've tested, but also in nearly all of the original NPAP-DFs too. Its just kind of part of being an underfolder. If you set the lockup too tight, those lugs have a harder time snapping into position quick enough, and your stock actually over-rotates when you try deploying it fast. AKs were designed to be a bit sloppy. Its not a bug, its a feature with them.
My theory with the Zastava export rumor is that of regional politics at the time. Up to the popularization of that rumor tensions between Kosovo and Serbia were at a peak of sorts. If you recall an Albanian had won a local election and Serbian nationalists who had as a matter of previous protests withheld their vote for said election, protested the results of the election. During this time, Serbian officials attempted to reassert that Serbia has dominion over Kosovo. Serbia does not have territorial control over Kosovo in the same way that China does not have territorial control over Taiwan. My theory is that at this time there may have been some sentiment to gear up for a potential conflict in Kosovo. This did not end up happening so my theory lands in the purview of conjecture. I would need to do a lot of research and translation to figure out if there was any talks of conflict or if there was some other reason that brief shortening of exports was rumored to take place. That was my theory at the time of the inciting event or around the time of the rumor gaining steam. Nowadays, I don't think Serbia is foolish enough to attempt a ground invasion of Kosovo or Albania given Kosovo being a NATO ally and Albania being in NATO. That said, if Serbia made some very stupid decisions it will go over like a lead balloon for the government and military. I tend to like Serbian AKs, I think the extra long hand guards tend to be a nice creature comfort in a design plagued with a lack of comfort. The first AK I ever shot was an M70AB2 and it gave me a hand cramp that lasted for a week. All good fun. Something that I think would be an interesting discussion question that I feel you would have something interesting to say about is on weapons adopted post AK. More specifically, what were the rationale, reasoning, and design directions taken into consideration by countries in the process of adopting a new service rifle in the place of an AK? Finland, Czechia, Croatia, Poland, Serbia, and China come to mind as countries that all at one point used the AK and when adopting a new rifle seemed to go in all manner of directions design-wise. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the matter.
@@misha5670 I think that carries more weight than you let on. Firearms companies, like all companies, benefit from impulse purchases and people spending loads of money. Every time an election is held in the United States ammunition, firearms, parts, and maintenance gear have their prices inflated some more than others. I think that the political situation at the time may have spurred a rumor that in turn over valued the price of Zastava as a company and their products and adjacent products from other companies. The lesson learned here is be smart, don't panic buy, don't impulse buy, support laws that restrict price gouging and pressure your local politicians to follow support those laws too. I don't like having to spend my hard earned money on paying inflated prices that exist for no reason.
@michaelbirdsong196 but not like it used to be and it's about fifty pennies per round. Once the import contracts are fulfilled on the Russian ammo no more of it will ever be allowed to be imported. Add in the war in eastern Europe and what is going on in the Middle East and I don't see it getting better anytime soon. None of this is a problem for personally because I stacked it to the rafters when it was available everywhere for 8 pennies per round and those days like cheap AK's, surplus magazines and parts are long gone. 5.56 is slightly cheaper than 7.62x39 as well as AR's in comparison. IMO, it no longer makes sense to buy an AK unless you're a competitive AK shooter but even then I would go with one chambered in 5.56.
The Yugo Army used them. Just a piece of flat steel with a bend at the bottom to cover the cleaning rod slot. Remember they launched a lot of rifle grenades so...good to trap the rod in there unles you one a 2nd very long & thin projectile coming out too lol.
Yes, if someone asks me which 5.56 AK that's on the market now to get? I'd point them towards the Beryl. But I also say the M90 is a solid 2nd choice + is cheaper too, so....@@markp4401
Waste of time putting a scope rail on an under-folder. No way to get a cheek weld, and the stock flops around. Plus, it looks all wrong. Would have been better to adapt a Russian style side folder with a side rail.
See to me, that would be all wrong on a Zastava AK. They never used the Russian style side folder. For whatever reason Zastava really liked their underfolders for decades.
The ZPAP M70-UF is an awesome example, BUT, I picked up my NPAP-DF back in 2017 for like half the $$$. Hopefully, Trump gets a second term and the prices tank again. Ah the good old days.
Man, AK prices weren't really any lower 2017-2020. Plus when it comes to any import, rarely does the price ever go down, at least not more than say 10%.
Better in which ways? (search this channel to see us reviewing just about every single Arsenal rifle ever sold since the very beginning with the SA93).
