The coolest thing about Zekka’s arpeggiation techniques is that as a solo beatboxer you can still effectively communicate chord progressions. Few people can do that. Off the top of my head Gene might be the only other great one at that
He is great at doing it consistently and clearly. But it's so often off-pitch. Surprisingly quite a lot of vocal technique heavy beatboxers are really bad at keeping pitch
i would add pwad simply because his bass has already two pitches and yeah it's completely different from the others on the list but definitely meets the "solo bbx but communicates chord progressions"
@Tronik345 most artists sing thier songs live in a different key, and lower pitches. Because higher pitches live often sound shrill and off. Beatboxers are usually opposite. But all that still doesn't exempt it from being a mistake and a mediocre performance. People shouldn't have to give all benefit of the doubt to make it sound better in their minds lol
I was shocked seeing Zekka 13th, no clue what was going on in the other judges ears. He was top 5 Elim for me for sure. Besides the messy first drop, this was the highest level of beatbox
I actually agree. The arrangement didn’t actually resonate with me which is a surprise since I always jammed with Zekka. There were some parts that I really enjoyed and others where I didn’t get ‘it’ as much. Tbh, I didn’t quite feel that inward bass drop - it’s probably amazingly arranged and complex but I didn’t automatically feel like I understood it enough to really enjoy it. That’s alright though. He’s still sick and there are other beatboxers like DLOW who can appreciate the things I can’t hear.
@@jaredbowen3527 Napom clapped zekkas cheeks lmao and no helium has 0 structure and when he countered the drums were weak af.. Im convinced you have 0 idea what you're talking about
There was no groove at all, dlow is way to biased towards this style I just can't see why he finds it appealing especially since his own style isn't similar.
A) headphones 🎧 will expose the overtones and bass that support his piece. B) "I did wear headphones, and still didn't like it." Well sit tight because Zekka had the 2 best battles to watch in the history of the gbb, and we'll all be thankful he got thru to make it happen.
@@afhaxe7018 yeah no offense to the other bbxers at all, i really enjoyed bring the musicality and melody's a long but make it flow or have insane drops you know, and zekka does it so well. This gbb felt very more tech heavy then last one for sure, but its good to have everything you know.
@@afhaxe7018 Both are silly arguments. The beatboxers who didn't qualify could've had crazy sets as well, so it's not fair to adjudge the ruling based on what happened later. And the pitch was off, hthe inward bass didn't hit, the melody (for a melody guy) was repeatitive and unmemorable. Obviously I don't think it's fair to hold high vocal standards for beatboxers but when your set is based around melody, being off-pitch, wrong key is not a good look
@@linkinlinkinlinkin654 arguments? Lol. Judging? lol man idk where you're getting info. I'm not a judge 😂 I'm just saying that for peeps online that feel somewhat sour about this result may have a different opinion if they wear headphones (I know crazy concept). And as a bonus they will likely feel a bit better about the ruling once exposed to later battles. 😜
I don't get why people critique Zekkas elimination. I think almost all elims had issues, this was one of the best though, in my opinion. Such a complex set, yeah he wasn't able to perform it 100% but none of the eliminations were flawless. Zekka posted on his instagram today that he too wasn't happy with the performance, but obiviously the creator always critiques his own work the most. I think this was amazing and his style translated so well on stage!
It just didn't sound good. A lot of people want to kind of dance in there chair. This didn't do it at all. I found it quite hard to keep listening too.
@@emilflarsen2 My argument is that this style isn't appealing to the majority of viewers. Most artist make you bob your head, bounce in your chair while you are listening. This style just makes you set there.
@@vergy and what? Beatboxing isn't just about heavy drops and techno beats. I'd actually argue that his style IS more appealing to the majority due to his musicality. I guess you're pretty new in the scene with those claims. I'd recommend you broaden your perspective on what beatboxing is by listening to a lot of different beatboxers and styles.
@@emilflarsen2 Been watching beat boxing since 2009. So no Im not new. I've watched it as it has evolved. I even 100% disagree about that being your example of musicality. Musicality makes you want to dance and shows you flow of beats and how well one can string them together to make then sound beautiful(flow in this almost made my ears bleed), technicality(how clean your portfolio of beats are, etc) makes your jaw drop. If anything this performance shows great technicality.
Wow! I watched the whole event live on youtube and made my own list. I also had Zekka 4th and Kohey 17th in my list so I'm happy that you appreciated zekka's as much as I did because I was shocked he was so low in the official rankings! Loving the analysis videos as well btw :)
I thought zekka was actually uncharacteristically sloppy during this set. I think he tried to jam too much into two different sections of the piece. He lost a lot of rhythm and groove by trying to do too many sounds and techniques for me. But, I still love his style and his melodies are always on point.
Yes! I thought D-Low would say that because it was the first thing that hit me. The singing/melody was really easy to follow, but the drop left me confused. It was too much crammed in. I think there was a way to make it work but it didn't come together right in the end.
@@alalulu4503 ya it’s not the best to listen to, but it’s technically very difficult to do so he ranked it very high, especially because he could never do it. That’s one thing about dlow, his ranks come from whether or not he can do it and how difficult it is for him to do it, then he factors in the mistakes they made
Wow, #4. I loved his arrangement but the biggest thing that brought him way down for me was his pitching - pretty sure he was slightly off key a lot of the time he was singing.
The way the environment interacts with the overtones and the way we hear the fundamental is pretty steep when you hear the narrow band thru a phone. You can hear a wider closer to accurate range in headphones and it makes way more sense. Certainly not perfect, but very nice.
Agree 100%. The singing and the melodies were out of tune, sometines too flat, sometimes way too sharp. I get that he deserves point for the arrangement, but the execution was very flawed imo... I feel like River could do this piece justice from his wildcard we have seen
I love how zekka's performance is very depended on feeling it. Live I didn't feel it, apart from that heavy drop at the end, was the heaviest of the entire gbb. But even then (that it didn't resonate with me) the skilllevel and excecution are so good. You could tell he should have been in even if you didn't like it.
For me is one of the best tracks from Zekka in terms of composition/structure and musicality (pitch so on point) and he even ended with Power , i loved it so much , i have same taste than D-Low on this elimination, for me he deserved best Ranking overall !
damn, i have to think about it. for me he is similarily ranked to yours, maybe 1-2 places lower. but damn, that means one or more judges must have had him WAY out of the top 16, like what is this crazy competition to have freakin zekka so "low"
@@holajail2499 i can definetely understand that it can sound really messy, it's subjective in the end though. as far as i know, at least heartzel und trung bao had major dry mouth problems and couldn't even execute their prepared rounds fully. that alone would place them lower than zekka for me.
@@ghost_ender8298 Can you explain how those two are biased? I hope you aren't one of those people that go "Kenny only votes for the americans!!" or "Pe4enkata only voted her friends!"
His style doesn't resonate with me tbh and the execution was poor. Dlow is way to biased, his critiques of other beatboxers clearly don't apply to Zekka. Zekka did not deserve to be in the last 16 in my opinion.
Actually, the fact that it is happening on stage doesn t help, like i really enjoyed Gene's wildcard but i dont know what it would make on stage. And also if Dlow loved zekka's perf it's probably because he 's a bbxer from a long time and need more originality in perf than us, that can explain why he didnt really like too much Improver' s elim while i loved it.
It's weird - for me, i connected with most of the piece until the final drop. I didn't like that final drop at all, but I think it's one of those things where you had to be there to feel it. Really want to go to the next gbb!!!
Yea, I enjoyed Zekka's melodic parts, but felt like those drops weren't connected to the rest of his piece. Like, it's fine when a drop is unexpected AND actually fits. Mby just my ear didn't like it :') Respect to Zekka anyway ;--)
I think even that Zekka have simillar soundset to Gene it was very very original. I think we shouldnt take one important skill like arpegios and all time compare it to Gene. Anyway I love both, this one was special and I'm so glad you've got him at 4th place. Good decision
Personally in my opinion he was nowhere near 4th. I feel his performances are all very similar. I love beatbox but don't do it so don't know all the ins and outs. This is just my thoughts from a non beatboxers perspective. #nohate
Just so you know unclean sounding beatbox sounds is at the same level of inward bass that’s not in pitch or any other musical sounding beatbox sounds. But what sticks out more to us, unclean sounds or unclean pitch? Exactly, it’s easy to put someone really low when they’re not always in pitch but remember a lot of the beat boxers in this event were really unclean as well. Id say he’d be at least 9th.
I honestly believe you were the only fair and honest judge overall, based on your decisions throughout the entire GBB competition, I hope the jugde team will be different next year, it hasn't changed in like 3-4 years now...
I don't think you should be biased based on a beatboxers style tbh it makes no sense because you'll basically never score other styles highly even if the performance is as good. Zekka's execution was poor in his elimination. 4th place is way too high.
The structure is too good damn . Plus style point must be added cus its kinda originality cuz not many beatboxers can do his tyle plus his sound are mostly original in my opinion
Such a beautiful and impressive piece. Zekka's been my favorite beatboxer since the KBB. Your style and his are similar to me and i love that you are such a fan of his work aswell. Big love from Brasil
Personally I don’t know why some people were saying they couldn’t vibe with Zekkas elim. Maybe I’m just better at listening to music or something. All this talk about the first drop being wonky and what not. If you listen free of thought you can find the rhythm of the artists music. It’s music after all.
I only disagree with your placement of Improver. Really think you made a mistake there but for the rest I really like your detailed explanations for your choices. It’s still a matter of personal taste. Keep it going champ🙏🏼.
Tbh i cant understand why did he got such a low place. I mean this was pure originality. I never heard such a musicality style like his. It was clean and powerful also well structured. The inward bass was the only mistake there. It was pure diamond and 1st place of all elimination of the whole event and it made me dont care otherwise.
@@snoopyr1953 If you listen any kind of music (literally) its common thing to re use sounds or beats and stuffs in one song. Because they are really great parts of the sound and it just a great style. Its not Dupstep or riddim so every drop sounds differently. Ofc i get your point anyway
Really amazed on how D LOW honestly reacts to every beatboxers' especially with their dopest sounds/routine, but at the same time imitate it in his way just to let us know that he could counter it if time comes.😃👌
PLEASE HIDE YOUR MOUSE CURSOR FROM THE VIDEO CLIPS, so annoying D:! I always watch your analysis on every GBB video and noticed it happens in all of them. In my analysis of your analysis series that's all the critique I have, love-yow
