The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the most important games released in years. Yes, more important and significant than DC Super Hero Girls or WWE 2K Games Battlegrounds. Breath of the Wild is everywhere; in Smash Bros, in your fridge, in Mario Kart--- but the real Breath of the Wild was the friends we made along the way.
I need help.

I'm very interested in a second playthrough for myself now. I haven't touched the game since it came out but I remember having similar thoughts to you on a first playthrough. Maybe I'll also feel more mixed...who knows. Also I'm happy that I got around to binging your 3D Zelda retrospective now that the finale is here. It was a fun ride! I'm happy that I was able to be here for at least the end as soon as it came out.

The weapon durability in this game makes it so you dont want to use certain equipment by fear of losing it I hope they solve this issue in botw 2

And the retrospective comes to a close. Yep I pretty much agree. For me the dungeons were easily the most disappointing aspect of this game by far which honestly sucks a lot. Zelda kind of used to be one of my favorite series, and while I still love them I'm currently not hyped for the next main entry, which is nuts. I do like this game a lot though but it is too much of a departure, and I am happy for their success. But if this replaces the Ocarina style Zelda games I'd be pretty sad.

If you want another open world game and a breath taking adventure like BOTW, I highly recommend Dragon Quest XI S Definitive Edition. Hands down, the best RPG I’ve ever played. From lovable characters, beautiful orchestrated music, a story that has the edge of my seat in which I won’t spoil it for you, great turn based combat gameplay, side quests, additional content, I could go on. If you haven’t played it yet, please do yourself a favor and go play it. You’ll not be disappointed. If I have to list my top 3, 1. Sylvando 2. Jade 3. Erik

You fight a giant squid (I believe it's the largest one) and once you win the Great Fairy appears and grants you the larger magic meter

We don't decide what the real deal is. We dont create zelda. Miyamoto created the first zelda. He is the father. We can say as much as we want that it is not a zelda game. It doesn't matter. Because the creator of the the zelda world says that it is. So it is. And if we say that it is not a real zelda game. What are we basing it on? The first one? Well botw is the closest we ever been to the roots. Just because you don't have "items" which are basicly just keys to enter the next dungeon doesn't mean it isn't a zelda game. If you base your entire zelda is if you have useless items which you use 6 times in the entire game, then yes this is not a zelda game. You solve puzzles, waste your time to get the hammer in OoT and then you just use it like a dozen times in the entire game. I used the wishmop more often then the legendary hammer. Oh yes. And the mighty boss battles. That's not a battle. You don't battle anything in the old zelda games. You just solve the puzzle to defeat an enemy. It's a puzzle. It doesn't require any skills of you. Throw a bomb in its mouth and it's done. Puzzle solved. No sword, no slingshot no anything does do dmg before you solve the puzzle if throwing a bomb in its mouth. That's not a fight because you don't need any skills. Themed dungeons are something I want back but the old dungeon system is not something I want back.

it's really interesting hearing different people's opinions on this game because I had the exact opposite experience you had because botw was my first zelda game and it quickly became my favorite video game of all time, and after I played it a few times I thought it would be fun to go back and play the older games, and while they were kinda cool in there own way It was really hard to enjoy them because of how linear they were, and how restricted and controlled I felt while playing. so while I think it would be cool if some stuff from the older games came back in the sequel, If it ends up to much like a classic zelda game it could ruin it for me. But that's just my opinion and I completely respect yours. (great video by the way!)

I don't understand peoples obsession with the story happening 100 years ago and that the cutscenes happened already. OK? Take the same cutscene and igamine that it happens right now. What now? It's the same cutscene.

The Legend of Zelda has always been and probably always will be close to my heart. This series just has something about it that no other series has been able to give me. From the combat, to the puzzles, the characters, the music, and the lore (both the explicit and the implied) just all resonate in me and just give me so much joy just to think about. When I first saw the E3 reveal trailer for BOTW, i kid you not that it brought me to tears. Every once in a while i still go back and rewatch and it always gives me chills and immense happiness. BOTW feels like a celebration of Zelda's history, and i love how much of the other games is in it through references and allusions. It definitely is one of my favorite games of all time. Having said that, i agree that it isn't perfect. As mentioned, everything one can say about this game has already been said. I feel like combat in botw, although it can be incredibly fun to experiment with, is still very much unrefined in several areas. When you don a spear for example, it's kinda boring to just repeat the same thrusting action over and over where if you wield a sword, you have a bit of a combo. Probably my biggest gripes with the game is the lack of gadgets and tools to make Link's arsenal feel more unique. Every game has unique items, like the whip or the little beetle in skyward sword, or the clawshots and spinner from twilight princess, but in botw, although there are many types of melee weapons, it's just kinda not the same without the gadgets and magical tools. The lack of dungeons was also definitely noticed, and even though i love the shrines and beasts, the same aesthetic and music in each one is kind of a bummer. Breath of the wild although a great direction for the series, feels like it's just the beginning; like the groundwork for other, more epic tales, and i really hope botw2 builds upon that foundation. I feel like to go back to linear zelda games would be kind of backtracking but i hope the team can find a good balance for future games.

I really don't get the variety of the weapons. They're literally just skins of the same three blade weapons and the bow. This killed any excitement I had about getting the amiibo weapons. Once I realized that the Sage Sword from Twilight Princess was just another generic claymore, I stopped bothering with the amiibo weapons. But this is just a part of what made this game so tedious for me. In order to make the game super open ended, much of it had to be simplified. No quiver/bomb bag upgrades or any of the like, just equipment slots via Korok Seeds. No heart pieces found cleverly hidden in the world, just a spirit orb in each copy-and-pasted shrine. For a game that's the epitome of quantity over quality, you'd think they'd have more things than just the same three types of things over and over again.

I definitely need to revisit BoTW someday. When I got it back in 2017, I was disappointed. I was unfamiliar with open world games, and I wasn't sure how to feel about BoTW. It wasn't the Zelda I knew and loved. I tried to get into the game more but it never clicked with me that hard. That scene of wonderment wasn't there for me. Unfortunately I'd always go around saying how overhyped this game is, and all that shit. Ya know, being a contrarian. I've thankfully grown out of being that way, and because of that, I might be able to enjoy this game more. Very excited for the sequel as well.
