CQOTD: I think using genetic modification for health purposes is definitely a good thing, but anything further than that gets into territory that I can’t see going well. I watched a movie about that kind of scenario called _Gattaca_ where the main character is not genetically modified, causing him to be mistreated and ignored. He has to assume the identity of someone who was modified to be able to do anything more than janitorial work because he was deemed genetically inferior otherwise. It’s a very thought provoking movie. I highly recommend it.

Such a good movie and will most likely become no longer a thought experiment at a ceritan point. I think the biggest thing will be what is considered a health concern. Should things like autism, adhd, and bipolar be checked for and removed? Cause it can be seen as some people's super power for creativity or intelligence. For me ADHD is a blessing and a curse, allows me to have multiple responsibilities at my job that I can bounce from when my I need a different dopamine source. My boss is always impressed by it but it's how I hijack my "disorder". So while it cause me distress in school and remembering to eat and drink, etc I wouldn't have wanted it removed before I was born. (Sorry that got long lol)

I believe getting rid of genetic diseases and deformities is great. But using it to modify people based on boosting intelligence or height should not be ok. Also it should be removed from wealth disparities cause that is just terrible

CQOTD: As you said, using it for the point of healing is the best application of it, but when it's used for height, eye colour, skin colour, that's when it becomes a form of eugenics which is just unnecessary abuse of the power.

Tyler needs the boomerang to get the egg found in the bottom of the well. The egg will lead to Zelda, and (if he didn't randomize the letter) hopefully lead to the Happy Mask shop! CQOTD: I am all for removing hereditary diseases like Cancer and Auto Immune diseases. The line SHOULD be at the point where we get designer babies, but people are going to abuse this no matter what.

The reason the PS3 was so expensive at launch was because the way they made it backwards compatible with PS2 games was essentially by just sticking an entire PS2 inside the console, so you were pretty much buying two systems. So when they released the second version of the PS3 that didn't have backwards compatibility they were able to lower the price by $200.

Been waiting for this. Even put my ZOoTR SUiTR on. Cocktail waitress once told me I looked like a swell fella. Real dime piece, that dame. The kinda voice that could lead a man to water or sink him, dependin’ on how he played his cards. It was a real longshot, and I was a thirsty kid from the wrong side of Hyrule so I jumped, backwalked, and rolled right in to that temple, got a bit confused on how to proceed at points. Eventually, we found ourselves in a secluded corner away from all the action, and I instantly finished her. The longshot had paid off. In return for my efforts she gifted me a medallion that I keep to this day.

CQOTD: i studied philosophy and I'm legally blind due to a genetic disorder. In my country you even get up to three free lab grown babies if you have a genetic disease that'll make your children inherit that disease. That way most genetic disorders will be eleminated. I think that's the line. Making sure that you'll get a genetically healthy child! I think anything above that will lead to something that may become a dystopian future. In Ethics we discussed things like this and creating a child with certain genetics is questionable at best. We will start getting rid of genetic diversity which will lead to one major thing: if we look at Darwinism (survival of the fittest) we can't do just that anymore. We need people with different bodytypes, skills etc. We would either try to mess with DNA in a way we aren't supposed to (and eventually not be able to recreate our ancestory DNA anymore) or we will try to find a genetic 'meta' so to say. Other ppl won't be able to compete with these humans and we've gotten rid of genetic diversity. No genetic diversity equals unhealthy children hence, the end of humanity. Making sure we get rid of disabilities is even highly debatet amongst philosophers. I say as long as it just modifies someone to not have a genetic mutation that hinders basic bodily functions we should allow it. Anything else we should never do.

CQOTD: Sorry for the amount of text, Tyler, but I'll soon be a scientist. I'm finishing my degree in biomedicine here in Brazil (I still have lots to learn), my carreer dream is to work with genetics in human reproduction, and with basic knowledge about the topic, I think I might be able to enlight some facts and also give my own opinion. First off, you can't edit the genes of an entire human, this kind of procedure is made on single cells. So if you want to edit the DNA of a human, it would have to be done before the human was even born, in the reproductive cells. The next thing to consider is that humans have quite an amount of autoimmune diseases, which are caused by one's own body due to their DNA, thus, there is no definitive cure for them, some of them are lethal, some of them have continuous treatments (though they're not always efficient), and some don't. With that, my opinion goes, in order to avoid autoimmune diseases, the best approach would be the prevention of them, by using gene editing on reproductive cells, we would be increasing the quality of life of future humans by diminishing the suffering that would be caused by such diseases, after all, medicine itself is about reducing the pain and suffering someone would have. Now talking about enhancing the future humans, most of the characteristics, such as intelligence, aren't solely based on one single gene, so we can't have a human that is good at everything, because messing with a gene in order to get better at something, could also make you worse at something else, even then, we don't know all the genes involved in such a complex thing. Simpler characteristics like eye color, which we already know the genes involved, could be edited, but we also have to consider that the main point of this procedure would not be the well-being of someone, but an aesthetic choice. I wouldn't see it as a problem if this medical procedure was always safe, but that is the problem of medical procedures, mostly aren't always safe, so potentially endangering the life of your offspring, even if the chances are small, just to please the parents desires about their child appearance, is not an ethical choice. Until the science around this develops even more, so we can guarantee the safety of this procedure, I don't think it should be done, unless it's in order to prevent a bigger problem, such as an autoimmune disease.

CQOTD: To me the "designer baby" question is less about morality and more about practicality. Once this is proven to be posible parents with means and desire will find a way regardless of what the law says. Even if you make it illegal in the US, what's to stop them going overseas to have an embryo made and implanted. All you would have done is ensure only the very rich would be able to do it. What about other countries, rival countries? If they make use of the technology and create a genetically enhanced generation and you don't would they outcompete you? Also given AI's rapid advance I'd say humans can use any anvantage they can get. CQOTD2: Super Nintendo, greatest console of all time imo.

CQOTD: I think it would be interesting. Would defiantly be beneficial in health aspect like you said. If it could be used for something like height, it could possibly help with things like shingles, paralysis, alzthsimers, etc! I think using it to modify appearance would be unnecessary. I don't know what the limitation of it should be though, but it should be more available/available when ever possible for necessities. Like how medications are Glad the event went well. CQOTD1: so long as economic inequality isn't reduced to a minimum and for-profit healthcare is still a thing, gene modification will lead to eugenics and an elite of superhumans ruling over baseline humans which would be second class citizens whose parents were too poor to afford gene edition for them. Which is a good chunk of the "Gataca" film's plot's backstory. So my line on the sand is not until universal healthcare can be warrantied. QQOTD2: The Gamecube was a pretty solid but underrated console, despite its faults and experimental nature, and interesting form-factor of the console. Also good gamed released for it.

CQOTD: I think genetic modification for health purposes is a good idea. I have muscular dystrophy and it sucks. The older I get, the weaker I become. I could walk normally as a kid, but my hips started to weaken in my early 20s preventing me from climbing stairs without a railing to put myself up with. I'm now 36 and my hips have weakened to the point in which I can no longer stand up confining me to a wheelchair. Thankfully, my heart is unaffected by my condition.

But the moment i hear someone do something like forcefully modifying someone's genes i will... probably not go on a crusade, but that person/those people will have all my wrath, and I'm a very wrathful person. Cqotd: i feel like if we let people choose what their child looks like and stuff like that, we might have two problems: 1, everyone is going to look the same depending on what a region considers attractive because I know a lot of people aren't going to use it responsibly and 2: I feel like we might start getting undiverse genetics within certain regions, which can be a problem in places like small towns and populations On the other hand, gene editing can be used to cure people of terminal illnesses, help people who are insecure like themselves more, and other good things, such as helping children who are predisposed to certain genetic diseases make sure they don't develop them later in life

CQOTD: Gene Modification for health reasons can be a very good idea and procedure, but you're ideas of people using it for hair color and eye color is not too far off. There is a movie out, its kinda old, called GATTACA which plays out the scenario of having the Gene modification be a thing that parents can do with their children before they are born. I think personally the line should be drawn at a case-by-case basis, but it also draws another line of ok how or what should the cases be based on, which as of right now I do not have answer for. But I do think a case basis, would be if a situation would be that a child is born with a terrible genetic disorder, like Sickle Cell Anemia.

CQOTD: Phew, this isn't easy. As for what you said: Firstly, getting rid of certain diseases might be preferable, but in the long run I don't really think it is. It might sound macabre or cold-hearted, but we're overpopulated as is, and - speaking from a purely rational and uninvolved standpoint - I think diseases are there for a reason. Just saying, we're becoming more and more people anyway, and that's probably our biggest problem in the world, so we shouldn't necessarily speed up that process. Secondly, the problem with aesthetic adjustments will be that society will divide further as beauty becomes a question of perfection more and more. It's gonna be like with plastic surgery, only worse. Being enough will mean achieving more and more in the future, and not only because of gene modification. On the other hand, if we are resposible with it, it might yet enhance our lives. I'm currently dealing with the topic of AI and androids again, and I think that's a similar discussion: will it be a blessing or a curse? And I think it comes down to what the late Stephen Hawking said: we must learn to deal with all this new knowledge and technology in healthy ways. And I have a feeling it's gonna be like with every new invention. There are phases our society goes through with these things: first rejection, second a hype until it's annoying, then misuse up to disaster, maybe a phase of prohibition, and ultimately leaning from past mistakes and implementing it in optimised ways. Well, mostly. So, I've grown to be kinda chill with new stuff, seeing the potential of developement throughout future generations. Time's gonna after all.

I don't love the idea of parents being able to impart their physical preferences on children who could very well have different preferences. Related, you should check out the movie Gattaca. CQOTD: Healing purposes of modifying our being is ok however changing our appearance might be questionable. I read this series where doctors modified humans DNA to have them have wings or wolf like features. I believe that is going a little too far as cool as it seems to be able to have. There is always a limit on what is acceptable or unacceptable in society these days but if people do decide to do these things to their body than that is their choice and who are we to judge them. As long as their happy that all that should matter, and we can't force our opinions and believes on them. I love watching your videos Tyler and I listen to lil tall on my way to and from work to have some joy in my day. Love your music and keep creating. Can't wait for your next video.

CQOTD: For heath reasons I think Genetic Alteration would be very beneficial and a logical step forward for healthcare as a whole, but only if it is made accessible at all wealth-levels. I can see that easily turning into a “only the rich get to live without disease and health problems” deal. Also, perhaps slightly biased on my part, but it would be a game changer for trans healthcare. Specifically, for those on HRT being able to give them aspects of their body which would provide affirmation while reducing Dysphoria… it would be a godsend! As a transfemme myself, I’d kill to have a more womanly figure, bigger breasts and low/no body hair growth, which genetics could absolutely change 👌🏻

cqotd: i think the line for gene modification is the line of consent. if the person agrees to it then they can do it. so doing it to babies is just wrong in my opinion. but i dont know how it works. if it is only an option for a baby then its just a bad idea. ill have to look more into it.

CQOTD: my thoughts on these things can be summarized as "create all technologies, and use them all responsibly". There's definitely gotta be regulations around what you can and can't use it for, because otherwise you're teetering on the edge of eugenics. Not to mention the separation between those who can and those who can't afford the procedure. But I lean more towards the liberal side. Cure diseases, of course. I also don't really have an issue with people being selected for stuff like physical ability... as long as everyone can do that and you don't price out poor people. Where it gets bad is when you start picking stuff that you would like, instead of your kid. When you start seeing your kid as a manifestation of your desires instead of as a person in their own right. Stuff like race, neurotype, sexual orientation, gender identity? Those are my hard lines. When you do stuff because you don't want your kid to think or act or look or feel a certain way, _that's_ the line for me. The quintessential examples are people wanting to be able to make their kids Not Be Gay just because they're homophobic, or to give them genes that make them skinnier bc that's what looks better. It's mostly about who people would discriminate against, and that's kind of a weird line to draw. I think we could start off looser and react if we see there being a problem, but. I'm not sure I trust the government to act that fast lol

CQOTD: Gene modification should be allowed to prevent unnecessary suffering like physical deformities or severe mental disabilities. When we get to modifying physical and mental traits for preference, then no. You’re getting into eugenics. If the gene alteration procedures are absurdly expensive. It would make high income families more advantageous with their genetically modified kids, than lower income families.

1. Yay! Glad the event went well. Sadly, I live on the other side of the continent, so not going to happen, but if you're ever at anything in Toronto, I'll try to hit you up. 2. LOL, I was wondering why you were going for Song of Time. 3. I thought you had Requiem of Spirit? But I'm watching Zeltik do this exact same rando right now, so I could be confusing you with him. 4. I'm afraid of CRISPR. I am multiply-disabled, and I would like to retain the right for us all to exist, not just as we are, but in general. It's not up to anyone else to say how we "should" be, and meddling with nature always has consequences. See global warming. 5. First person to ever milk a cow...? Oh man, that could go as far back as the Proto-Indo-Europeans. Say that name ten times fast, but they were nomads in the 5000s to 1500s BC who ranged around northern Europe and Asia, generally in the Caucasus mountain range, which is where we get the word "Caucasian", because they apparently had "straw-coloured skin". So, darker than you or me, Tyler, because I'm Irish on mom's side and she bred all my dad's good Italian genes out of me--darker than us, but lighter than the Dravidians in India. They eventually navigated into India and started mixing with the locals, creating the Brahmanic priesthood who wrote the Vedas, which are the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism. ANYWAY, though, cattle were sacred to the PIE civilization because they not only represented their oldest mythology, in which the twin sons of the Sky Father god sacrificed a cow to the gods in order to populate the Earth, but cattle were also their income. They used them for their temporary field work, for one thing, but they also traded in cattle and in their goods. The image of the sacred cow is so old that it's found its way, in one form or another, into every single religion that descended from the PIE culture. In Hinduism, the Mother Goddess is a cow, and the mount of Shiva, the God of transformation, is a white bull named Nandi. In Minoan Crete, which was a later, though contemporary, society of the same kind (Crete is an island that's now part of Greece, but wasn't at the time: it's just south of the Greek mainland), there's wall art depicting young men doing flips over the backs of bulls, and since we can't read their writing, that's the best guess we have that cattle and bulls were important in that culture. The sea god, Poseidon, was also, from what we can gather, the king of the gods to the Minoans, and one of his sacred animals is the bull, and especially white bulls. You ALSO get the legend of thew Minotaur, who was bred in the union of thew Cretan queen with...ugh...her husband's favourite white bull. Woo, bestiality...ugh. But yeah, the Proto-Indo-Europeans were PROBABLY the first people to milk cows, unless you count buffalo, in which case it was the North American Indigenous, since they've been here for FOURTEEN THOUSAND YEARS, at minimum, and working with the animals. 6. Oh! You're forest creatures (i.e. a bunny and a fox), so they're all like, "Get out of our house!" XD

CQOTD: I think genetically modifying people for both certain features like eyes or hair is probably fine because they’re secondary characteristics. I think that would be less controversial in some people’s eyes than getting rid of down syndrome for example. I think the only issue with health problems is some people may not see certain problems as problems or discrimination against people currently living with those conditions might increase. I think it might be more common to genetically modify for twins because many people might prefer to do a 2 for 1 pregnancy or to have 1 child of each gender for example. I think almost every type of modification should be allowed at first and then certain features should be progressively restricted based on how it works in the real world.

CQOTD: It's definitely a very blurry line. I'd like to say getting rid of genetic diseases would be okay, but it would be very easy for people to lump being gay or autistic in with diseases, and that's just not right. It's hard to say exactly where that line should be, especially with how poorly mental health is understood even now. Also, even though I grew up with and exclusively played Nintendo consoles growing up, I have to admit the PS2 is the best system. It was leagues ahead of anything else in its time, and it shows by how long games were being released for it.

CQOTD: Nah the mii maker boutta become real 💀 Real talk, I think using it to cure diseases and stuff like that is cool, but I feel like if it becomes to a point where parents can basically edit their child's physical attributes, then it is a huge problem. Hell, as a high school student, with how rude and annoying kids can be just to someone who is overweight or quiet, I can't imagine what struggles a child with parents who are ethical enough to not edit their kids in that world. I think that in some cases it could be used for good, but I hope that society won't go overboard with it.

CQOTD: I belive that the idea of "Designer babies" is appauling, and trying to do things like editing eye colour, hair colour, isn't smart and has potential to be dangerous. Health benefits however? I'm all for, in fact I couldn't agree more with it, I think in those regards it needs to be pushed almost as far as it can be. Though if it ever ever became possible in some mysery magical future to change your own looks as an adult (which you already kinda can...? Almost) then I'd probably be for that
