Grave of the fireflies makes more sense now. I have been suicidal for a long while, almost my whole life. This gives me peace, and hope. I love your videos. If you're reading this, you're amazing. You'll make it! I have faith in you.
"The Presence of God is seldom experienced directly, but it does occasionally 'shine through the clouds' via our connections with friends, family, or even animals and nature" -Dr. David Hawkins
I have spent many hours hotaru watching here in Japan. I can tell you it is a truly wonderful experience. They only appear when it’s warm enough, where the water is extremely clean and unpolluted without pesticides and herbicides. Every year their numbers decrease and so do the places where we find them.
To the *incredible person* that's seeing this, I wish you all the best in life❤ don't over blame yourself, accept things and go forward. Don't let others define what “success” is for you. Get up, learn the skills needed and get after it, all the keys to a happy life is in your hands. Keep pushing.
"Though relatively rare in Europe and North America..." That's news to me. Growing up in North Carolina the summer twilight sky was lit up with fireflies. I've also seen them in many other US states so I wouldn't say they are rare.
It's not the number of years that we live but the the number of things that we do in those years. Life feels longer the more you do even if it seems to be a short amount of time compared to things like the universe. In short, if you do more you will feel that you have lived longer. The sad part is that most of us wander though life "busying" ourselves with pointless and repetitive things like work. And, worrying about things that are out of our control or don't have any real meaning.
I respectfully disagree that they are rare in North America. Just 4 months ago, I tumbled around with laughter as I lie on the grass and watch them land on me. Okay, I was little inebriated. But this 50 year old felt 5 again.
Every time someone mentions the brevity of life, I have to wonder-isn't this mainly a matter of perspective? While our lives may be short indeed in comparison to the near infinitely old universe, it is quite long when compared to the lifetime of a firefly. Depending on how you live the roughly seventy years you have on average, one lifetime may be either far too short or strenuous and tedious. Maybe we shouldn't just contemplate the brevity of life but work towards a life whose brevity is actually pitiful.
Thanks for this, but yall microphones are setup horribly... It sounds as bad as a zoom call. like the firefly, I had to push through because there is an end... but seriously drives me nuts from produced videos to have bad sound.
Recently visited a philosophy discussion forum. One topic being talked about was whether enlightened means anything at all. Incidentally I think fireflies are decreasing in numbers.
U had it, until the end. It's impossible to know the age of the universe like that, no one was around to document so theories are best guess👍! 🤔 think about it...
One thing I really dislike about these videos is the advanced language (i.e., unnecessarily complex words and run-on sentences) used to portray your wisdom and knowledge. A) it's condescending and makes me feel that this wisdom can only be attained by the highly educated and B) It's likely that a lot of this knowledge goes over the head of an average viewer (like me). I have to always have a Google dictionary open on the side to extract the main intent from your (albiet, very powerful) messages. My advise - make the language simple so it sticks and more people can apply it to their daily lives.
I’m ESL. The language is plain enough. After all it is a video on Zen. What specifically was too complex for you to grasp. The video has excellent visuals. So sorry, but your request was denied by Santa.
That explains why fireflies were an integral part of the famous Japanese animated film Grave of the Fireflies, a film on the human condition under the world war-II.
i'm looking at the last 6 months of video titles ... they pretty much describe me to a tee ,,, i'm afraid to watch them, but guess i have to watch them ,,, was broken in two somewhere along the way by all that's happened over the past 18 months ... i guess we all have beeb
@@theschooloflifetv but please don't cut pauses anymore in the speech, and let the narrating voice be soothing again. Produced this way is soooo annoying and evil-sounding :(
Sounds very interesting, but I feel like the narrator always goes too fast in the School of Life videos. It's a bit difficult to understand everything she's saying. I'd need it a bit slower in order to grasp all the thoughts, before she moves on to the next. The content is very high quality both for the eyes and the brain, so in order to appreciate it all, that would be my recommendation to you!
Nicely done. Poetry, for me, has always been like making music with words. I found this video to be a nice combination of philosophy, art and science. 👍
As you are touching religious philosophy, can you touch Advaita Vedanta philosophy of Adi Shankaracharya and its core beliefs to live happily. Thank you
Re: 1:45 seconds. "Zen has No ideology" ~Alan Watts. True zen isn't based on ideologies as you claim and whoever wrote the dialogue for this video is sadly mistaken. Zen transcends all concepts of ideology.
A little modern wisdom- Nature's behavior has always guided philosophy. However, there is vast difference between philosophy in the world of science, and philosophy in the world pre-science. You are free to sort the differences for yourself.
There are a lot of fireflies where I live. They look magical when it’s dark out and they’re glowing but without the glow they just look like flying beetles. Kinda scary. It’s an interesting balance. Perhaps this prevents people from capturing them in jars. And just let them to be.
I put all 40 of the thumbs downs as a symbolic gesture to my past refusal to embrace the glory of nature and my one-ness with it. This is a beautiful and clear video, thank you 🙏
Ok so I finished the video but didn’t take in the zen stuff because the “fireflies light up to attract a mate or prey” fact in the first 14 seconds got me stumped…. I was out here thinking they lit up just for funzies
They're very common here in Canada, and bioluminescence is not that uncommon in the natural world. They are mesmerizing, but taste terrible if you happen to be jogging through them in the evening.
Fireflies are glow on light If they are group they are becoming so beautiful Zen philosophy And Fire files Faces of mighty and Mystery Fire files Japan celebrate festival They are sparkling glow on trees tiny insects with group glow like magical The presence of gold like insects creatures are connected to animal and humans
For those who don't know (sanskrit)DHYAN become (chines) CHAN and then (Japanese) ZEN So basically this is hindu philosophy based on SHIVISUM( lord shiv)
Awfully edited voice over. The editor did not like any pause that happen naturally between each sentence. It makes hard to listen to it. What happen to Alan De how come he doesn’t do any voiceover any more?!?!?
Hmm. What happened to the soothing voice we were all used to? Why this sharp, almost severe intonation and pause cutting? Please, get back to the normal way you used to speak. This really sparks anxiety, it's rather obnoxious
What do you think of the idea of starting a series on Occultism from an outside perspective? Those idiots should not be accepted in society as they shortcut their way through to success. You could build these videos using historical narrations, literature, and sudden twist of events aka miracles without being biased but just as presenting the data on the depth that is viable.
Wait a second. You think fireflies are rare in the U.S.? Clearly you haven't done much research. Fireflies are EVERYWHERE in the summer months in the mid western states! They are looked forward to by the young and old! It is a time honored tradition for children to collect fireflies and keep them in jars over night as laterns. in the morning they are released, by any parents who care about the natural world.
WHOSE NAME DO PEOPLE TAKE IN VAIN! WHOSE NAME IS KNOWN AMONG NATIONS? THERE IS POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, THERE IS A REASON WHY 2000 YEARS LATER WE SPEAK HIS NAME! "THERE IS ONLY ONE NAME UNDER HEAVEN GIVEN TO US WHERE BY WE MUST BE SAVED" See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. Colossians 2:8
"hollow deceptive philosophy, which depends on human traditions" Seems like you just described Christianity right there. But there's an advantage Buddhism has over every other religion, that it's main focus is meditation which actually has scientific backup for it's benefits, sadly none of the Biblical claims are evidenced or even remotely accepted by science. And you know.. science is the reason why humanity has progressed this far, it is the only reliable source of knowledge and if it goes against the Bible then.. something must be wrong with it don't you think?
