Excellent stuff as usual Mark 👏 Since you’re ‘pilot drilling’ in situ to locate all of your fastener positions, you probably don’t need to open up the holes in the Lexan that much after, you just need to make sure the hole wall is smooth by cleaning it up after drilling. However if the Lexan does flex a lot in some areas during flight, opening up those holes in the Lexan to clear the fastener through them - to provide good radial clearance - might be a good choice to mitigate the formation of cracks should the Lexan and screw come into contact under load. You are certainly building in a high degree of reliability and robustness into your aircraft. Very well done mate 👍
It was suggested to me to add a few rivets to the inside of the side windshield trim. That way if getting in or out, if you hit the trim you won't bend it.
Looking good. Not sure if you saw my Facebook post, but got my windshield mocked up and trimmed. I did mess up my sunroof. Cracked while drilling. All my fault I pushed when I shouldn’t have. Oh well, I’m sure I’m not the first nor the last.
Yes I did see your post. I wondered how you cracked it by drilling. I'm actually not too careful when I drill mine but I haven't had any issues with cracking. Maybe I've been getting lucky!!!
I would have though you would have used the same screws on the side trim as the top so I all looks the same and they are black. I must say I am not a fan of sheet metal screws, so that would be another reason for going that way (for me). Good to more progress "A little bit every day is better than nothing".
G,day Mark from Sydney Australia. Can you sharpen a broken drill bit: easy. 1. Bench grinder 2. (Study a new bit, and see the two sides). 3. It's about 30° line top centre. 4. Two tails, rolling outward. Merry Christmas 🎄😀🥁
Hello Mark - I am installing the Windscreen on my Cruzer. I noticed in your Cruzer, you trimmed the bottom sides of your windscreen so that the edges along the front door edge are fully captured by the z-bend trim pieces. On your SD, you have the windscreen extending downward to flush up with the bottom of the door opening. This means the lower 6 inches or so of the windscreen rear edge are not captured by the Z-bend trim piece. I was just wondering about your thoughts on this. Cosmetic/personal preference or some functional difference you have noticed? Thank you.
The reason for the difference in windshields is because of the difference in the instrument panels. My Cruzer has the "Cruzer" panel, and the Super Duty has the STOL panel. The glare shields are different for each so the window gets trimmed differently for each.
I just wish there was a effective way to show how to simply sharpen ALL drill bits....Esp., w/o some fancy smancy tool, equipment and/or techniques....🤔🤔🤔. Also, from my experience with R/C planes, will that battery needs some "vibration dampening "...???
