Just my opinion on it, but no I don't think it is fair because of certain things specific to housing both FC and private. For one you have to have an FC house to have a workshop to do expeditions which you can make gil with. Same with gardening. You have to have a house to do it. Also it's an MMO, people want to have a place to hang out at the least. When someone buys up multiple plots it really does deprive players from these things. I have this problem on my server where someone decided to buy up 8 plots in order to make a make a bunch of venues.

How Bloomberg would say I got my house: Through hard work I earned my house, many an hour was spend along with tears and losses. It was truly a struggle to behold. After getting the house I understood that all was fine. In reality: I just randomly decided to check the goblet one day and found an opening, I clicked it and bought the house. And while I have a medium house that I love, I do think the system is really bad and needs a complete rework so that everyone can get a house.
@zanido9073
@zanido9073 Год назад
If everyone could get a house that would be fine. But in the case where not everyone can get one, the people who are willing to put in the most effort should be the ones to get one. Having it be random between all players is a terrible solution.
@Muppemania
@Muppemania Год назад
@@zanido9073 Well, the effort here is just spending more time clicking a poster and hoping some random does not walk up and get lucky. Not sure I would call it a system that reward the ones who put in the most effort, more a system that takes players time and flush it down the toilett. Not saying the rng system we have is great, but at least people are not having to hang around a poster for hours on end. IMHO they should throw the current system in the garbage and replace it with something where everyone that want a house can have a house. The only effort required in a game we all pay for, should be having enough ingame money to buy it.
@Kamasillvia
@Kamasillvia Год назад

@zanido9073
@zanido9073 Год назад
@@Muppemania Well there's certainly better options than the previous method, but the previous method was far, FAR better than the lottery system. Standing and clicking a placard IS effort. You can argue that it's a shitty, boring implementation of effort, and I'd agree, but it was a massive barrier to entry. This meant that players who really wanted houses could reasonably obtain one, because they would only have to compete with a handful of people. When I was house hunting previously, even on Adamantoise which is a well-established server, I would only be competing with a couple people for a house at a time. So while it was a bit tedious, it only took me a couple weeks of medium effort to get a house. With the current lottery system, if I wanted another house it would on average take me 4+ years, because every single house has over 200 bids on it every week. And medium/large have easily 1k+. As for having money to buy it, if you're talking about a free market yes that would be a much better solution. Of course people will cry about the RMT implications, but there are other solutions that would be just as effective at addressing the shortage. One example I've mentioned a few times is giving a priority system to, for example, mentors. You put in the time and effort to obtain mentorship status and bam, you're at the top of the list for housing.

I had this dream where i would some how successfully buy both in the same ward, and begin making a large get together for rpers, as well as an area for smaller more private place that others could "rent out." Once it was released i had made the horrifying discovery that they made 75% of ALL wards both old and new became company only wards, and after the first week of the new housing systems were implemented i lost the lottery. 99% of all plots in the personal housing wards were bought up leaving only small house plots, and thanks to a bug the potential for buying a vacated plot was put on an indefinite wait time. Gave up on the spot cause i wasn't willing to wait a week / months for the bug to be sorted out only to lose the last relevant plot of land i was looking at. Haven't been back since.

*sigh* I would have expected better from Bloomberg. Housing still remains a problem, but I believe that Island Sanctuary is a sign that they are working to solve it. Not because Island Sanctuary will become housing, but because the technology used for IS will be used to build a new housing system. It will be instanced but not by house, by neighborhood which is what the Ward system was supposed to do, but was not implemented correctly. The current wards are not truly instanced, which is why when one ward fills up, you can see effects in adjacent wards, which should not happen. The old code is too fragile to fix, so a new system will likely be implemented. Island Sanctuary is proof of concept for the new system I think.

My favorite part of the housing issue in 14 is that it directly mirrors real life. The housing in 14 is limited artificially - they could buy more servers, add new wards. In a free market, the price of the houses wouldn’t be capped, and traded freely, so there would be a supply and demand curve. In real life, housing is also limited artificially by the government via regulation, permitting, etc. Especially in large cities. As an owner of a business that does electrical contracting (and having built several homes myself) around 20% of the cost of a new build is a direct result of regulatory burden. We’re it removed, housing prices would drop by about a quarter. But you know why that won’t happen, then it isn’t controlled. And control is the name of the game.

The housing problem in ff doesn't mirror real life at all. While the lottery system and price controls are indeed antithetical to free markets, the problems in ff are a result of nongovernmental systems. There is no regulation on housing with the exception of auto demolition from inactivity. The fact that there is a limited number of houses is an economic problem stemming from irl economic limitations (servers, data centers, etc.). In other words, it isn't a policy implemented by the developers. It's a limit of resources and revenue. This doesn't automatically mean more governmental controls are necessary. Quite the opposite. What's needed are more player based decisions like a real economy. If players were allowed to freely trade housing, there'd be more internal regulation by the player base itself through simple supply and demand economics. You'd most likely see a greater degree of parity in server populations like water seeking its own level as players try to find available housing. You'd also see booms and busts during content drought and patch releases with housing prices going down during the former, and going up during the latter.

If you do things with you Grand Company you can get Grand Company specific tickets as well. You can save locations to history for easy access, you can set them as favored to save gil or use teleport tickets. Also multiple houses aren't allowed anymore. They used to be and the people who got them still get to keep them.

I think your take is wrong. I agree with how FFXIV actually handled it. Half the wards for FCs and the other half personal houses, and half those between those willing to put in the effort on the sign and those that want to do the lottery. The only thing that shouldn't be limited is apartments. The one draw back is stables and garden plots, which is an easy fix.

Holy crap, read the thumbnail and title and thought it was gonna be a well meaning but misinformed article about how unfair and biased the housing market is in the US (and much of the rest of the world) using ffxiv broken (though maybe not as broken as the real world’s) housing system. Instead it was a completely tone deaf article about how poor people and anyone who doesn’t put all of their energy to getting a house deserves to be homeless. This is hilariously tragic, or is it tragically hilarious?

Can't get a house? Prices too high? We have a solution for you. FFXIV housing. Real houses are overrated. The images displayed do not reflect the actual houses. Bad at decorating? No house for you. xD Having a house in a video game is a privelege one must EARN! xDDD Here's a suggestion, they obviously want a housing ward, populated by people, i like the wards, but how about we make FC houses in wards and personal housing instanced? Done.

Last words "when it is no problem to me.. sounded like " it's no problem to others". In mathematical world, you need to proof that this case holds for any x in group y. But, if you find one x, where it does not hold, then it is not True. Maybe restriction of one house per account solves something, but to say that there is no more any kind of trouble is False.

The Bloomberg article definitely a bit of a joke. With that said, I think the people with 28 houses mentioned in the Kotaku article did nothing wrong. 1) The article was written in 2017, right at the beginning of SB. The people who bought up 28 houses did it during HW on a server that was basically dead until SE did the free transfers bit. 2) In FFXIV, the amount of gil someone makes is, in fact, a direct function of how much effort they put into making gil. No one starts 'rich'. There's also no system for inheritance. Every gil you have is a gil you earned through your own efforts, either by playing the market or socializing with people around you. Everyone has an equal opportunity to do whatever they want to try and earn gil. It's all about how you choose to focus your time and attention. 3) Nothing was stolen from the people who went to Mateus during the free transfer period. The plots were never theirs to begin with. The plots had always been available to anyone who played on Mateus, but the people who cried about it didn't want to play over there until transfers were free. They could have made characters over there or bought a server transfer earlier, but they were more interested in staying put at the time. That was their decision, and it cost them the houses.

Here's my question, why can a single FC own more than one housing? Upgrading is one thing but owning multiple ones is f'ing ridiculous imo no one person or FC should be able to own multiple places if there's a shortage problem and the can't fix it. And before anyone comes at me about my statement I'm talking about a freaking video game.
@solusgamer164
@solusgamer164 Год назад
It only doesn't make sense because there's no player trading for housing. Even if you can only buy one house per player, there's still too few homes to buy. So it isn't a problem with hoarding per se. Although it can be one as shown here.
