In this video we will be listening to the LATEST Single from Greta Van Fleet's upcoming album, Starcatcher. 'Farewell for Now'.
This one will be growing on me. Not immediately in love with it. But I do kinda dig it. Not a whole lot to say...

While I agree it’s not their strongest song, it’s a song written for us fans as a thank you for all of our support. The lyrics are beautiful

I look at it like it’s a love letter to the fans.

In my opinion, it's nothing absolutely ground breaking but the meaning behind it makes up for that. This song is a love letter and a promise to the fans. Also, in the lyrics there's references to TBAGG like "fought in battles far from the homeland" and "even drank from the wine" which is a reference to Stardust Chords. fun fact: I did indeed cry the first time i listened to this song

“In Farewell For Now we express the sentiment of our longing to stay on stage & savor the magic created by the audience-music phenomena. But we must pack up, & go to the next place to do it all over again; as always, we’ll be back soon.” - Sam Kiszka I think it’s a very specific song, maybe to end their Starcatcher concerts. I can see this being played at the end of graduations and similar events. It’s sweet but it’s not a banger. I too like “Sacred the Thread” the best so far. I was really hoping they’d drop “The Falling Sky”…but the album will be out before we know it!

The sentiment behind this song is special and will probably be quite emotional when listened to live. I will let you know after the St. Paul show in September!

Just listened to it before coming here. Yeah, I used to really like the harder stuff, and I still do prefer it but the slower and softer songs have grown on me throughout the years. This is one of those songs that just make me want to close my eyes and drift off.. but in a good way. Very easy going song and a beautiful tribute to all us fans that keep supporting them, even when they are constantly getting criticized. There’s been a lot of mixed feelings on the effects on this one, but I really love the slight echo it’s very calming for some reason.
@shotgunndunn
@shotgunndunn Год назад
I love me some slow songs too. Speaking of effects… (different song…) the distortion on Josh’s vocals on Sacred the Thread I’m not a fan of. It prevents me from really cranking it. It’s just a bit too much.
@dylancole1910
@dylancole1910 Год назад
@@shotgunndunn I agree, it threw me off the very first listen because I couldn’t understand anything he was saying. It took a couple listens and having the lyrics to get used to it. The live is what really made me love it though. This one, although there’s obvious effects, they seem to take a back seat and I can hear more of Josh’s natural vocals come through and it’s much easier to pick out the lyrics on first listen.

This song feels somewhat like one of those old arena rock power ballads from the 80s. So far each song has given us some nice little easter eggs musically. And it seems me the last two songs have been about the relationship between the band and the fans. I feel like the Army is the most appreciated fandom. They don't seem to be as personally interactive as they used to be on social media, but they're still very concerned with what we're saying and thinking. Their families are also highly involved, hanging out with fans, so gracious and caring, when they don't have to be. This all sets them way apart from any other band, so even though the song may not seem to move mountains to some, it does to us. It will to you, too ❤

I was also a little meh about this song the 1st time but it has grown on me. I doubt it will be one of my favorites but I hear this as a "thank you" to the fans and perhaps the final song for concerts. They have written other songs for the fans or referenced fans in previus songs. In Heat Above they mention a "Peaceful Army" joining the band. The Peaceful Army is the name of their official fan club. Also all of them are singing before the solo at the end. I image it would be difficult to harmonize with some of Josh's singing so it's been toned down. I've listened to this several times and for some reason I get a Beatles vibe each time. The drumming sounds very Ringo to me, especially the fill. Love your analysis of all things GVF.

When I first heard the live version of the song (from Sacramento), I didn't like it at all. It sounded too folksy-poppy. Something like Auld Lang Syne. And I was REALLY hoping that Falling Sky would be the next single. That said, I really like the studio version. It's growing on me. And is makes sense. Thematically, it works very well together with Sacred the Thread. And it almost feels like a testimony. ...you know, this film geek, who "never really wanted to be a singer," finally saw what's in the stars and caught the wind... I don't want to sound overly sentimental, but I just really love the message.

@catchinglooks Год назад
totally agree with you! i wasn't anticipating to love it as much as i do from the live and preview clips i heard of it. i saw someone say that it gives them almost famous vibes and i can see that - the visual i got when listening was the band playing live to a bunch of fans on the tour bus or at the end of a really fun party in a big barn or something, haha. digging it.

It's a pretty song but I can hear female backing vocals? That is just not acceptable. Josh's vocal's are what makes them who they are. I am sad to say I really haven't warmed to it yet. You still owe me a review or two shotgun. I want you so much to do reviews of the songs I have mentioned. AGE OF MACHINE!! and the WEIGHT OF DREAMS. I am sure you will really like them.

Oh PLEEEEEZ.... "ripping off songs," "Josh sounds like "Geddy Lee", OMG YOU NOOBS! Been a published rock songwriter for 30 years. YA THINK ANY BAND YOU CAN NAME WAS ACTUALLY TOTALLY ORIGINAL? No you can't. Stones? Black blues. Zep? Black Blues. And as far as GVF is concerned on FAREWELL/// they are brilliantly using a songwriter trick to FORCE you to love the song after your 5th listen. Go ahead. Test me. Test them. Close your eyes... this song is meant to burn itself AND ITS FOCUS IS ON THE LYRICS, and they know THIS kind of songwriting takes a HUGE chance, cuz it's got the progression, the talent in the musicianship at every level, and when you get it into your head, the danger part is... how many times do you cross the old rickety bridge, enjoy the view and the experience, before the bridge breaks? Here's the deal. GVF if fcking TOO GOOD to really worry. Their set list at this point puts them AHEAD of 95% of EVERY GREAT ROCK BAND YOU'VE HEARD. Just so many blues progressions, just so many backbeats, it's the talent, the story, the style... GROW UP! P.S. The first REALLY ORIGINAL BAND, and even they weren't 100% there, but nobody has come close... THE BEATLES. There isn't even an argument about that amongst ANY PRO musician, sound tech, producer. They ain't gonna say "Lynyrd Skynard" (God Bless em).
