I enjoyed this battle. JSU's tubas saved them on a few songs(IDGAF was one of them). You can tell the difference in them from the start of the season to now. I still think they sound much better when they don't play like Southern; find balance. Both bands were battle-ready, but one seemed like they had to work harder, while the other was required little effort. Overall zero quarter goes to The Jukebox. Their book and arrangements were just better. Boom, I need 'Golden Time of Day', and a few other throwbacks back in rotation.

That's a good point. I think, though, that they were really really pushing and just wiped themselves out. Cuz even though Southern I think won the BoomBox classic, I think JSU took it at Crankfest with their song selections. Definitely two amazing bands.

lavonte howard there’s a certain “media” area they have to stay in so I think wherever that is they stand. Also in this stadium being closer doesn’t mean louder, when you sit in the U in between both bands they aren’t as loud as if you sit across the field directly in front.

We have changed our style waaay to much and we dam near sound like Southern. We need to go back to musicality and out playing them. No one is going to be louder, but this half note and whole note stuff is super wack. Bring back marches and things that we all know Southern can't play. Make them change what they are doing not this block chord stuff

I don't know about out playing us but I definitely agree that JSU need to go back to their ol school style like in the 90s. They're blowing a losing battle trying to beat the U at their own game

Joseph Beard Finally someone who feels the same as I do. I'm an ole school BCU alum, and I posted the same thing on @RogersBrothers channel on yesterday. JSU have changed their entire program style of play just to mimic SU! Why in the hell would they do that? Seems to me JSU Directors have fallen for and believing SU a better band, because why else would they change JSU style of play to mimic SU? SU been playing that way since back in the day. At that time, we all thought SU Director "Doc Gregg's" (RIP) was crazy, because SU was the only band cranking and playing loud at that time! I always tell JSU and Alcorn peeps that SU always yelling across the field "Find your own style" for a reason." SU seeing how JSU and Alcorn changing their style to mimic them, so that's why they always yelling that crap across the field. There's a reason for everything, and that's the reason SU take advantage to yell it every chance they get!

Sir. Southern University Human Jukebox warms up with Purple Carnival and In the Storm and Sunshine. Are they not marches? Southern has everyone switching their style up. You can not be an eight track tap in an mp4 iPhone Generation. You can't say Southern has no musicality. I like JSU for who they are. They are going through changes and I'll by that. Southern has a consistent program 40 years in the making. Nothing is going to stop them. Not more tubas, not going back to what they use to be, not being bigger. It is what it is. Is JSU a poo 💩 like the say... I would beg the difference and say no. SU is who they are and they are not changing. Either come up are get rolled over. #JustAnOpinion

LOL....warms up < playing in a battle... I am sure that every band plays scales to warm up too, but we are talking about the songs that you perfect for a performance. Please don't even try to say that Southern plays marches as well as a FAM or JSU....you don't have enough woodwinds to even begin the conversation. Nor has Southern ever started a fifth with 4 or 5 marches to lead them into battle. Let's not go all out into delusions here. The point is about the instrumentation changing at JSU.
