For my mower like that I drilled a hole in the center between the bushings and installed a grease zerk. A few times per season I put a couple shots from a grease gun in them. Old grease and any dirt out and fresh clean grease in. Just wipe off the old grease with a rag. Been a few years now and the bushings are still good since the modification.

I came across this video by accident while watching other videos about Z335E. Last year I started have some with my steering. This year it was getting harder to turn. I went out and brought new bushings. I was stock when I removed the wheels. The top bushing was paper thin. They were very easily removed. The bottom bushing I had to knock out. On both housings there were no ribs inside. I used grease when I put them back together. The bottom bushings I had to use a hammer and board to get them in. The top bushings went in with just light pushing by hand. I was thinking of putting grease fittings on the housing to keep the shafts well-greased. Do you think this will be a good way to keep my steering working right? 😃
@MunkyWrench
@MunkyWrench Месяц назад
@georgefusek2860 the steering bushings are made to be sacrificial.. if u put grease between the bushing and the frame it won't do an good. U can put some grease on the shaft of the wheel and it will make it smooth but the grease with trap dirt and dust and cause future problems quicker.. I don't usually grease for that reason. The new plastic bushings are so cheap and easy to fix I just replace as needed
@georgefusek2860

@@MunkyWrench Thanks for replying so quickly. So I guess I will keep bushing on-hand.
@MunkyWrench
@MunkyWrench Месяц назад
@georgefusek2860 yeah as cheap as they are just throw an extra set in the drawer .. u will notice when the steering starts to get a little Jerry or won't track straight and when it starts u drive u nits you will set aside a few hours on a weekend to replace them.. it's not an emergency part just makes driving so much nicer.. I keep a set of tube's in the drawer too in case of flats.. vmcheap and convenient

I would of upgraded from the plastic bearings to a ball bearing kit.

There’s a bearing kit for the z335e? Do you know the part number? I go through so many of these plastic pieces of junk.

Put a grease fitting in each spindle will make them last longer
@MunkyWrench
@MunkyWrench Год назад
Very true however considering they are plastic it won't make them last much longer and they are cheap and easy to install so it's a customer personal choice

Tap a grease nipple on the side of each stem good job
@MunkyWrench
@MunkyWrench Год назад
I recommend that to the customer but honestly considering the part is plastic.. it's basically cheap sacrificial material in order to keep cost down and service calls up.. box store junker. But so easy to change once u know how it's just easier to leave it alone lol..

Honestly, as a owner of a z235, I've replaced these way too many times! Needs actual bearings or a conversion kit

You've got it right there in your hands. WHY would you NOT clean it off after greasing it, then grease it again, and re-inserting it? Makes no sense...

How do you adjust the tracking
@MunkyWrench
@MunkyWrench 2 года назад
There are different adjustments to me made for tracking. Just released a vid on how to adjust the steering arms on a zero. The arms themselves can become out of whack. There are in some cases linkage adjustments under the machine on the rod that connects the hand levers to the pump. There's also adjustments at the base of the levers where they go thru the frame to adjust tracking

Hard to believe someone who knows what bushings to buy would pay someone to do this 5 minute repair.
@MunkyWrench
@MunkyWrench Год назад
I used to think that also. But over the years I've found there are different reasons .. in this case the man is in his 70s and isn't very strong and with no experience he was just unsure of himself.. he went to the local deere dealership and explained the problem and they sold him the parts with no explanation of where they go let alone how to install. He found me through another customer so I was happy to take care of it and make the video for others to see how easy it is.. thanks for stopping by I appreciate it

@@MunkyWrench Oh, I thought he knew since he had the parts. I actually paid for this repair last November and am now having to do it again myself. I have the Z355 though, and it has 2 bearings and a spacer. I didn't know it was this easy, but I also had it there for something else I couldn't fix.

You didn’t grease both wheel shafts 🤷🏻‍♂️ Might want to put a written disclaimer on screen.
@MunkyWrench
@MunkyWrench Год назад
No disclaimers are needed can't get sued for entertainment.. in Florida we often don't grease spindles cause sand sticks to grease and grings them to trash.. these particular sleeves were recommended by Deere NOT to use grease. This is a friend and customer and I've checked since a year ago when this repair was done and all is well.. I understand your concern and I appreciate you watching and commenting.. thank-you

@@MunkyWrench You’re good. I bought my first zero turn last year after only driving my father’s once. Watched tons of JD videos since and really getting the hang of driving and repairing. I’ve jimmyrigged the passenger side arm (removed the seat wrong for a friend, but got it back together 😳), passenger side handle clip replacement (underneath), oil change, deck wheel nut and bolt replacement 🤫, and deck tensioner spring replacement. Bought a spare spring and drive belt just in case.
