Sprinkling bicarbonate soda then spray this citrus solution on top will foam and is great for ovens and grout between tiles. 🙂
@fairyfreak1
@fairyfreak1 6 лет назад
Yvonne Leedekerken combining baking soda and vinegar neutralizes the solution because one is basic and one is acidic. It essentially makes water and salt. If you want to use both you should first scrub with baking soda, rinse it and then use the vinegar. Otherwise it's basically useless after the foaming stops.
@ivonneanderson6092
@ivonneanderson6092 6 лет назад
Taylor Vierra I'm not sure if baking soda is different to bicarbonate of soda but I use this method all the time and it works a treat for me 😀
@fairyfreak1
@fairyfreak1 6 лет назад
They are the same. You're cleaning with a neutral solution, essentially water and salt. I'd recommend using them separately.
@fairyfreak1
@fairyfreak1 6 лет назад
In this reaction, baking soda acts as a base, and takes a proton from vinegar, which is an acid. The reaction releases gas because when the baking soda receives the proton, it transforms into water and carbon dioxide.

I use a mix of water, rubbing alcohol and vinegar to which I add a tiny bit of dish soap and a few cleaning essential oils (tea tree, lemon, lemongrass, eucalyptus). I was using it just as a shower spray, but your video made me think of using it for other things... and I just realized it cleans glass and stainless steel like a charm! I will definitely stop buying other cleaning products now that I know how much this stuff is versatile!!! Thank you :)

I just stopped in to get another recipe for cleaning. I like this. Mind you, I am allergic to citrus fruits but I figure that I can use gloves and I won't be consuming it so I should be fine. I do like the scents tho. My recipe was lavender oil, small bits of lavender, ground sage (now I know that I should use fresh sage leaves - it will take a while to use it all), crushed spearmint leaves (I will use fresh whole ones next time too), eucalyptus oil, and vinegar (of course). Hopefully this will help someone. I plan to continue to create different scents now that I will be an Airbnb host.

Thanks so much for this video! I've been having some trouble with static since it is so cold and dry where I live now. I combined some white distilled vinegar, lavender oil, and tea tree oil in a platic spray bottle I had left over from another cleaning product and it has been working wonderfully. I was thinking about going to pick up more vinegar for a cleaning solution, but do you think I could just use the solution I've already made? It would be great to see a video with cleaning products/tools you use, as I am currently try to make swaps around the house but don't know which is best. For example, what is the best tool to clean dishes rather than the usual sponge? And how about the bathroom? Would this cleaning product help remove bacteria etc..? Good video! I do this to with homemade apple cider vinegar...I infuse with woody herbs from the garden...often rosemary as I also use it as a hair rinse. Only thing I would suggest is that you go with an old fashioned tea towel or scrim made of cotton or linen. Microfibre cloths are basically made of plastics and I'm now trying to avoid buying manmade fabrics or putting them through my washing machine as new research into microplastic pollution indicates that this is a serious problem.

I'd be willing to give this a try but I had hoped it wouldn't be vinegar based. My mother has used vinegar to clean for many years but I've also found that nothing could mask the nasty smell and breathing it in made my lungs hurt (it is an acid so maybe not all that surprising but I wonder if I'm the only one who experiences this?). How long should this steep to really get the smells of the citrus and cinnamon fully into the vinegar. I'd really like to know if citric acid could replace vinegar in a cleaning solution and how to substitute it. Talks for sharing this. I second the other request for a diy dish cleaner. :-)

Unfortunately the microfibre clothes are not as good as we thought. Apparently the small particles never dissolve and stay in the water and make their way to the ocean (it was discovered that fish confuse it with food and it eat it)... you can have a read about it or maybe someone else could explain it better than me.. :) I however stopped buying microfibre clothes for that reason

I know this is months old now, but vinegar keeps forever. Remember it's used with pickling.

Microfiber discards tiny plastic bits when washed, how is that zero waste? I am just curious, because I am concerned with all the plastic waste in general.
@blueollis

Hmm, I didn't know that. I always just hand wash mine. It's low waste because it'll last me many, many years (if not forever) so I wont need to purchase cloths or toss newspapers away after each use.

You can always use towels/t-shirts/bedding that is worn and you would toss away otherwise. You wouldn't necessarily need to buy anything. Microfiber is really bad for the environment. www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/2014/oct/27/toxic-plastic-synthetic-microscopic-oceans-microbeads-microfibers-food-chain

You should just use fabrics like cotton, bamboo, etc. Materials that have plastics in them (polyester, rayon, microfiber, etc.) do create microplastics when washed (even hand washed) and then these end up in our water ways. Same thing goes for any clothes, towels, blankets, etc. that are made out of these materials.

Just saw this comment and thought I would throw this out there since it was something that I have recently seen. There is a Kickstarter campaign going on right now by Rosalia Project to get funding for the Cora Ball, which is a microfiber catching laundry ball. Ships to anywhere in the world evidently. I would agree though with the most previous comment, that it is best to use more eco friendly fabrics anyway, but if for some reason you cannot then I guess there is a new budding solution. :) good day!

Taylor Vierra Hi! rayon is not plastic, it' s plant based. But it's really not that enviromentally friendly either if you don't buy it second hand... Here's one article about it.. ecocult.com/greenwashing-alert-that-natural-fabric-made-from-plants-might-be-toxic/

Don't go out and buy microfiber cloths (they contain microplastics), but if you have them-use them. I know there's also things like Coral Balls to collect microplastics in your wash machine.

Microfiber is not a good option :( I discovered this recently after purchasing a ton of them and I felt horrible but it's always best to use natural textiles. Not only is the making of microfibre cloths horrible for the environment but every time you wash them, tiny microplastic fibres are released into our oceans killing marine life and polluting the ocean. It's actually horrific. I think we should just use the ones we've already purchased but I thought I should let you know that maybe you shouldn't be recommending them. It's not right that this information is not well known and we think we are making better choices and it turns out not to be =S Everyone: stick with all natural textiles and for windows I have found 100% pure silk works sooo well at not leaving streaks! I actually cut up some of my boyfriend's old boxers to wash windows with lol because silk really works! Also, newspapers and tissue paper too but if you have any old silk lying around then that is preferable for less waste of course.

Vinegar isn’t a surfactant. It won’t dissolve grease and oil. This won’t ‘cut through grease’. It will etch marble and granite. She’s clueless. AVOID THIS RECIPE!!!
