I’m soooo glad you did this video. A lot of us look to people like you, Shelbizleee, Gittemary, etc. for inspiration and guidance. And for a while I had some guilt around buying my face wash that comes in plastic, but it’s what my dermatologist tells me to use… and at the end of the day, I’m going to do what my healthcare professionals tell me to. But watching this video just helps me release that guilt a little more. Thank you! 🙏💕

I feel like a big part of trying to use less plastic and being more sustainable is learning as you go! Plus years ago, the options were a lot less than they currently are so it's easier to shop small and find companies that are more overall sustainable not just packaging wise

Could you please make a video about how to suggest environmentally friendly changes at your job? I’m a teenager and I work at a fast food restaurant and I see so many wasteful and environmentally harmful practices taking place and would love to reach out to our corporate offices to suggest change but I’m not sure how. Thank you!!

You might wanna ask in zero waste Facebook groups too.. I remember some people talked about this or say they work at a place where they are trying and/or the place/s are trying to be more environmentally-friendly and zero waste... some restaurants are doing zw too, a fish and chips place somewhere in the world too, I think.. it helps to read/see what they're doing and see if some of that could be done where you work too.. (or find a more eco-friendly place to work.. most fast food is known to be quite wasteful and not healthy.. ) Some shop assistants even said customers can get heard better than employees, so you might wanna team up with some who love the food but hate waste... It's great that you see what could be improved & that you're interested in changes for the better! Good luck!

IT'S JUST THE BEGINING OF THIS SHIFT, I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TAKE NOTES... ACTUALLY WRIGHT THEM DOWN TAKE PHOTOS OF AREAS YOU FEEL COUL D BE IMPROVED AND i PROMISE IT WILL BE THE LEVERAGE FOR THE CHANGE. RIGHT NOW MANY COMPANIES ARE HIRING CONSULTANTS TO HELP THEM REDUCE THE WASTE SO IF YOU BECOME AN EXPERT IN SOLUTIONS... YOU CAN GET AWAY FROM THAT JOB AND CREATE ONE THAT SUPPORTS THE SOLUTIONS.... IT IS ENEVITABLE AND A WORTHY ROUT.

Thank you for mentioning the political side. We need companies to understand that things like plastics are out-dated and THEY need to make the change and use biodegradable products.
@andreyav
@andreyav 3 года назад
Yeah, political solutions are needed & companies do need to change for the better! Personally I think waste prevention is even more important, 'bring your own' or reusable packaging etc. Biodegradable products still need to be made from something, when so many people have been hungry it is better to use food for food purposes.. Biodegradable items ideally from non-food sources could be maybe in some cases part of solutions, strong regulation would be needed & monitoring.. in real life there have been problems.. I would prefer that it would be easier to buy with own packaging everywhere, even in rural small towns etc. 7+ billion people would still use A LOT of resources for biodegradable throwaway products...

Yesssss to #3! I just finished my Prime membership and Im working on not shopping at Whole Foods anymore (which is hard tbh) but I no longer want to fund Jeff Bezos’ trips to space so 🙃 Edit: I’m acknowledging that this is definitely a huge privilege I have so I don’t want to make anyone feel bad for buying off Amazon if you don’t have a lot of choices. But if you DO please try your best not to!!
@BrittanyNicole

I didn't know Amazon owns Whole Foods! Welp, no more buying from them now lol. But its ok, I only really used them for package free soap and their bulk bins... I can find those somewhere else.

Apple cider vinegar as toner is probably my worst regret as well...made me break out horribly.
@BrittanyNicole
@BrittanyNicole 3 года назад
I think this also ties in with having eco-anxiety. its so hard to wanna be able to do everything and go all in and fret about what you're buying all the time to make it the most sustainable and waste free, but the truth is, political activism is the major one because one person on their own can only do so much in regards to buying package free stuff, etc. Great video! reminds me I can maybe relax a little and focus on the important things. especially my health... I don't take my supplements either and I need to get that sorted out cause my body is not in great shape right now.

I know it sounds dramatic, but my self esteem got better when I stopped trying to use all natural stuff. I think really young girls can get away with that stuff, but I looked greasy and a mess. That’s probably why a lot of our favorite zero wasters stop using that stuff as they get older.

love this. I feel like I've had to be willing to give up certain things that maybe costed extra money if I wasn't able to afford it at the time and just try to only pick a few things to focus on until i am able to have that job that would provide more for me

I really regretted using a bamboo toothbrush when I was in my early 20's. At the time they were new and only came in "adult" and "childrens". I have a smaller mouth so the adult ones were too big and I ended up with a lot of dental problems because I couldn't reach all the areas of my mouth properly. I ended up only using the toothbrushes the dentist provided because I was going often enough after finding out about my dental issues. Now bamboo toothbrushes come in many sizes, including small, so I'm back on that wagon. And, before you would have to remove the bristles with plyers? Now the whole thing is just compostable. I'm now trying toothpaste tabs (with fluoride). It's been an odd switch but I'm happy to not have to worry about toothpaste containers anymore. An bit of a strange concern but it's all a part of the baby steps. Sustainable practices have become so much easier than when I first began the journey around 8 years ago! We still have a long way to go though~ Also, thanks for reminding me to go take my supplements :P

For those looking at supplements, it's important to note that most people don't need supplements, supplements aren't regulated by the FDA and may not contain what they same (or may have it in a form that humans can't absorb), and the best nutrition comes from your diet. It may be more beneficial to meet with a nutritionist since everyone has different dietary needs and limitations. Many people cannot thrive on a vegetarian or vegan diet for a prolonged period of time, so it's especially important to meet with a nutritionist if you want to adapt to those diets.

Purchase regrets 1) bamboo cutlery sets...what was wrong with the flatware in my kitchen drawers? Nada. 2) I am with you, Kathryn, about the shampoo/conditioner bars, 3) same with toothpaste tabs, but I had to try them to know, right? I love making my own cleaning products with things I buy anyway (alcohol, vinegar, baking soda, essential oils), and with the exception of a couple of flimsy spray nozzles, have never looked back. I started distilling my own water to avoid the jugs, and recently invested in a still. Despite the poorly written instructions for using it, I don’t think I will regret that purchase. 4) the Cora Ball. As far as I can tell, the only fibers it has successfully prevented from going down the drain are threads from cut-up cotton towels I use as rags...unless the thread is nylon, in which case, maybe I should give it another chance.

Great video! I too regret fretting too much over things... It's really important that zero waste eco-friendly ethical living gets easier! One person can only do so much, and even one country or one continent - there are 7+ billion people in the world, why should everyone be a detective and Google eco-friendly zero waste tooth floss for example (& get nervous breakdowns inbetween because of that, or a gazillion other products! - Or produce?!) It can take a lot of time just to figure out what to buy and source what is good for one's budget & skin and hair etc - and ideally other people and the planet & animals too!

Buying veggies from bad chains is also an unsustainable move. Bananas, and avocados, from certain brands, are a bad buy because of slave labor, and poor farming practices. Helping local farmers, hunters and fishermen, that care and understand the environment as a whole, is the most efficient move for communities to gain a holistic understanding of how to be sustainable.

I really enjoy the Viori brand hair bars. I shampoo my hair twice a week. Once on Sunday when I can oil mask my hair for a few hours and then do a deep clean, and once on Wednesday when I follow the shampoo with a hair mask of my choice that just requires a rinse after and not a shampoo. All the other days I may run a little of the conditioner bar through my hair if I feel it needs a little clean, detangling, or moisture. Everyone has such different hair needs though. I’m always interested in what works for others.

Please be aware of the mountains of old (most name brand) clothing donated to goodwill, Salvation Army and other places like these! We thought they were being helpful BUT they have and still are creating havoc on offshore once beautiful beaches! If you think it’s trash,throw it out!! We need it to fill our landfills with it vs sending our problems to a 3rd world country! If we as a 1st world country haven’t found better ways of dealing with our trash how do we expect a 3rd world countries to deal with our trash! We need quality back in our clothing (bags) so it doesn’t pill after a few uses! I miss sustainable clothing that would last, jeans use to last for yrs, t-shirts were worn in public until it had a hole and then became pj’s. I miss my 80’s closet (even Walmart clothes were better quality vs todays high end cloth)!!! Please look up mountains of clothing in Ghana, Chile and other places unknown. It’s disgusting!

Thanks for this! What DO you use for your face? I like what I currently use but it's definitely not sustainable and I am looking to get as many things as possible switched over. Your advise is appreciated and I love that you take the time to do these. Your method for educating others is easy to follow and absorb. I've already applied SO MANY things you suggest and talk about on these YT and Insta vids! TY

I regret not going to therapy sooner. Yes it's related: in my early 20s I was going to change the world, but I got overwhelmed and checked out. The denial and greenwashing made me feel really powerless, and I was definitely lacking in emotion-regulation skills. The irony is not lost on me that I denied my own feelings and pretended to be fine until it became a crisis, which is exactly what the climate deniers did with climate change. Oh, and I just want to brag: my curls love my shampoo/conditioner bar. Yes the bars were shipped in from the US (to canada), but they're going to last a long time and they're from a small business who care about the world and its people. they're called Vida bars, if anyone's interested.

1. What's wrong with greasy hair? Anyway I use Dawn Dish Soap, cheap and mostly natural, everyone says my hair is amazing, including hair salons I go to. 2. Sulfur soap or similar, dawn works great to get rid of grease or acne, never had less pimples. 3. Get recycled or return what doesn't work? Amazon returns is great. 4. Water usually works just as well as detergent, or get dry detergent in a cardboard box, it's cheaper, and free and clear works well. Plenty of eco brands. 5. Every little bit helps, think of the true impact of things, even bamboo items are using resources, land and such to make. Don't spend yourself ragged, but make better choices slowly. Think...what did they do 100 years ago, or 500? 6. Vote with your wallet and ballot, talk to your employer even, send letters to your politicians, email groups, start picking up and properly recycling trash, talk to friends about being more eco friendly but the benefits of what your doing without judging them. 7. Yeah, rethink most things you do, make SURE your doing things for a reason. Overall, good video, 9/10.

MSHGhSHGh (funny, in Hebrew). // SHLM & HaB (peace & love). The Name of the Creator is Hayah asher Hayah, as what He told Moshah (Exodus 3:14), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. There is a curse to the G-o-d name (Isaiah 65:11-12), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. All followers of the Messiah are to do the 7 appointed times (Leviticus 23), but no more animal sacrifices, following the Crucifixion of the Messiah. We are now of the order of MLK TSDQ (King, righteous), to Whom ABRaHM tithed. Ask the Messiah to be your personal Savior. He said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Hayah (Romans 3:23). The wages for sin is death but the gift of ALaHYM is Everlasting Life through Messiah Yahushgh our Master (Romans 6:23). That if you confess with your mouth the Master Yahushgh and believe in your heart that ALaHYM raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved (Romans 10:9). He Himself is an Atoning Offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for all the world (1 John 2:2). The Messiah died on the cross, & Resurrected three days later (presenting Himself as First Fruits to the Father). Please ask Him to be your Savior. He is the ONLY way to Everlasting Life.
