Any table top water filtration system must be kept NOT ON THE COUNTERTOP, but in your refrigerator at all times!!! Even when you have empty pitcher with no water at all, it is still MUST be refrigerated as your filter will grow flora because it has water inside the filter body.

If you want the most clean you can spray the container after cleaning with 91% alcohol and wait till it's totally dry then add the filter. Once filled with water it must go in the fridge filled or empty.

You can add a drop or two of lugol's iodine (oral form of iodine) to a gallon of water to remove any bacteria.

Second test back - negative coliform bacteria! We must have had a problem with the samples, the process, or some other strangeness. It's gone now, and no one ever got sick from it. We're back to Zero.

You must keep filter containers immaculately clean on a schedule. One contamination and every glass of water after that will be contaminated.

Sample bottles can very easily become contaminated by touching them and you can get a positive coliform. Also bacti samples should be delivered and tested in a very short amount of time from taking the sample. If you use this filter with treated domestic water and keep the water cold you should have no problem. I agree this filter will not remove bacteria so make sure you're using water from a treated source. - licensed water system operator.

Black Berkey filters exceeded the target log reduction criteria (4 log viruses, 6 log bacteria) - which makes it a water purification system. The Zero Water system contains specific materials which inhibit the growth of bacteria within the cartridge. You sent the water through both systems so there should be absolutely NO bacterial contamination present. The samples had to be contaminated through mishandling of the water samples when packaging or at the lab that tested them, which is least likely. The possibility also remains that the crolliform bacteria developed in the lower chamber of one or both filtration systems after being handled with contaminated hands... you did state in your Berkey test that you had not cleaned the system in a year. According to the Berkey and Zero Water sites they both recommend that you clean your systems from time to time for sanitary purposes. One last thought... did you and/or your son sanitize your hands before handling the test tubes? I notice that you son is not wearing gloves either.

Which is to be expected since the water isn't boiled. Any pitcher system tends to grow a bit of bacteria since the filter and pitcher is basically wet all it's life, and being handled, etc. Interesting thing about Zerowater is that the product water is so clean (zero tds) that bacteria has nothing to bind to, so bacteria essentually can't grow in the water itself. It probably sheds from the pitcher interior and the filter. Maybe the way the filters are handled at the factory, I don't know.

on the last lab test that you didnt show, when you retested a virgin filter with straight tap water, was there flouride present?

curious if you can do a blind test A, B, C, D to the lab however you keep records of what actually A, B, C, D are for? or does the lab need to know the actual source of the water?

did you rubber gloves and a pipette to transfer / fill your test tubes. if not, the bacteria would have come from your son's hands.

Was there fluoride in the Zero water on the second test?

So, at the end of your video you say that it's possible you poured water filtered from your Berkey into the Zerowater, and that's why the Zerowater yielded no fluoride. Did you ever follow this up? Can you confirm that the Zerowater is successfully filtering out the Fluoride, rather than the Berkey?

For bacteria just BOIL water

Does anyone know what the lemony/metallic taste ZeroWater filters give off when the tester starts reading at about .004 ppm and higher? It's interesting that when you let the water sit in a cup or a water bottle, for example, the lemony taste will sink to the bottom. It will be mostly tasteless at the top and below that it will be very metallic. Maybe it's the metallic substance in the filter itself. I'm not sure. But have spent a long time googling to figure it out. I would love some assistance. Got any?

Were you able to verify on the 2nd test if Zerowater filtered out the fluoride? Just wondering because you state in the video that you are unsure whether the Berkey or Zerowater filtered the fluoride because you used Berkey filtered water to run through the Zerowater before testing...

Zero water makes it 0 at the beginning. After 2 weeks, it filters my 257 water to 650. Yes, the number increases dramatically after going through the filter. What is the hack? How could the water filter make it worse! This is the 2nd zero water filter we got from Target. Tired of the drama of this filter. Returned again.

Are you sure that the water filtration companies did not threaten to sue you? Are you sure both berkey and zero water samples received separately did not have coiform bacteria?

You need to install a UV sanitation filter under your sink or for that matter a whole house filter. If you’re going to use a drip type of filter!

Ummmm. Why would you test water with water that had already been filtered? Obviously the Berkey water would filter everything out making your test inaccurate.

Unfortunately this video & title initially make it look like a valid case against ZeroWater. I saw this w/o watching it a couple weeks ago because I instinctively knew something was amiss here. But it has gnawed at me till I finally watched it today and read your followup results. There are a couple things which this video positively brings out: 1) Something contaminated the filter because this is not what a working filter looks like 2) I've been a year-long user of this filter now and what I see as standout from other consumer brands is the size of this filter and contents: a larger multi-stage filter will do a better job PERIOD! So much so, that as my filter fills with TDS and the reading begins to be detectable, I am simply re-filtering some of the water each time I use it. This takes out any remaining TDS. Obviously when this stops happening, I'll replace the filter. I also recommend thoroughly cleaning the tap water reservoir and lid. I have the large counter-top unit. Regardless, all pitchers and container parts must be cleaned well to prevent contamination of any sort. If possible, I recommend the top drawer of a dishwasher if possible. Otherwise, clean in an already clean sink with dish soap with clean rag, rinse well, and dry with a clean towel that has not already been sitting out in the kitchen area. I am not affiliated with ZeroWater in any way except as a concerned consumer. This is the best filter for the money that I've found over the years. I buy mine through Amazon.com in a 12-pak on their Subscribe & Save when they are running a % discount. This saves the maximum amount. In this way, I was able to get each filter at a cost of just $8.36 each which is an almost unheard amount for a filter this size. Want to filter your water? Use a large filter like that of ZeroWater. Refilter for economy till the filter is full of TDS and must be changed. Keep all parts very clean for health safety sake.

Another thing that Zerowater company didn't tell you is the water from zerowater filter system became acidic water pH 5.4. (my Tap water is pH 7.3 at that time). pH 8 to pH 10 is considered Alkaline water, Very Good for Human). pH5.4 is Not so good human drinking water. I used the pH meter and tested it and I sent email to zerowater.com. and they don't want to tell me why their water became acidic water in email. They want me to call them instead. Something is very fishy in their product. And they are the most expensive filter in the pitcher system. About 3 to 4 time the price compare to others. And I don't know why FDA approved their water filter system. I still have 7 filter at home and don't know how to deal with it yet. Incase you don't believe me. I did calibrated the pH meter and test the zerowater filter system. The filter I tested only has been filtered about 2 gallon of tap water, therefore is not an old filter at all. I just don't know how they got approve by FDA ???????
