glad you mention the ball check valve at 23:20, as its not mentioned in the ATSG guide, the 2 screens are also not mentioned, good idea to clean the solenoids, didnt think of that, so will do that, i have mine stripped down, burnt out B clutch, 1 stuck valve but also one of the valve cover plates not even torque'd, finger tight, and it was a reco box form ZF !!!

Thanks for this video mate. My 04 disco 2 is holding first gear way too long (4000rpm) then once it gets to 2nd it changes up and down perfectly and locks up with no problem. It must be a stick valve or solenoid so this will be my next job. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make this tutorial. Much appreciated 👍

I replaced the xyz switch, which was used from another car, but it is a petrol one. Then what happened later was that when I move and then slow down the speed, it switches to a lower caliber, which makes me feel heavy in its movement.

hi, if ports are same then should be ok. air pressure test clutch apply ports when vbody is out. cheers

hi fantastic video i have a Discovery TD5 it has the 4hp _22 auto gearbox the problem iam having is i put it in drive it drives off but wont upshift gears goes in to reverse ok as well any idea what it could be any help appreciated.

hi, start with all the basic checks first. a regular filter service is recommended and also a good starting point to show if any debris present in trans pan. always good to add additional magnets as well. before you remove pan you can stick a few magnets on underside of trans pan as well. cheers

I had my 98 Disco converted in 2009 to auto and it transforms the vehicle %100. Knights - House of Rover in Brisbane.

Hi - I converted my 1991 Defender 110 3.5l v8 from manual (R380) to auto (ZF 4HP-22) a few years back and have driven more than 50k miles on it, happy to help you. You'll need parts from Ashcroft Transmission in the UK (not expensive) the new (old) transmission (I recommend a Disco 1), and a Disco 1 shifter (it's easier to find than an RRC shifter).

Hey mate great video. I’ve got a D2 that when cold will rev to 3900rpm before wanting to switch to second. Only happens once or twice while cold then stops. You think it has something to do with debris in the valve bodies or the governor?

hi, hard to determine without seeing it, but it does sound like a sticking valve or overtorqued bolts on valve body and governor. cheers

Hey bud i have a disco series 1 with zfhp22. I have just done filter change and oil. Now first gear holds too long. Then all good for rest of day. Gearbox runs good. Ive researched that its common for this to happen after oil and filter change. Suspect governor valve dirty? Is that easy to get at? Is there a nanual on internet i can get my hands on to show me how to get at the governor valve?

Hi, you need to be more specific. sorry I run a workshop so can`t give much free advise and time...always check basics first. like fluid level, electrical connectors, battery in good charged condition etc. If hasn`t been serviced for a long time is worth doing, but before you do that do the necessary checks and scans first. On side of trans find which ZF version you have and buy a Transmission manual, we like to use ATSG manuals. That will help you a lot. Cheers

Hello! Where is your garage located? I have an 2001 td5 that lost some fluid after a long trip towing a caravan and it burnt all the fluid in the transmission. I changed the fluid on the side of the road, it worked fine for the rest of the trip, but now it happened again. Worked just fine on short runs but after a long drive pulling the caravan it burnt the oil again and car stopped moving. I'm from Hinckley, Leicestershire. Cheers! Bogdan

Don't really understand the purpose of the transmission filter looks to me like it filters nothing, by the looks of all the shavings in the bottom of the pan.

hi, you want most of debris in bottom of pan rather than in filter. cut open the filter, especially the end where sucks up fluid on top of filter and you will see how much muck in there. cheers

hi, we mostly use ATSG manuals www.atsg.us/atsg/catalog/seo_sitemap/product/ or try get same on ebay? sometimes the dealership will photocopy a page or 3 for you out of their shop manual. cheers

@@YepThatsIt Thanks I also have my Disco 2 2002 V8 with gearbox ZF4HP22 with M + S lights and not gearing correctly. I Just bought the vehicle recently with 112,000Km on clock. I will check the web site to find a diagram. I bought the Filters and a new XYZ willing to receive them soon.

hi, i always explain the options to the owner so they can make the decisions...generally you need to weigh up mileage with trans service record. the problem is most people think a trans service is just an oil change....in this instance the larger metallic debris would indicate need trans removal and disassembly...the really fine stuff would be normal wear debris and expected when hasn`t been serviced in donkey`s years . cheers

Hi I’m not on Facebook it’s just that my 04 discovery 2 is running to long in high in gear before it changes or it goes in limp mode I’ve got the filter ready To put in but while I’m there I may as well replace the sensor but every where I rang tell me they don’t sell it the people I got the car from said the gearbox had been serviced but I think they were lying to me
