In this video, we teardown this trans because of no reverse hot, The 2 elements applied are the C and F clutch. Problem was worn bushings that feed the C clutch when hot looses the apply oil. At the end of the video i show the original shaft and one with new bushings

I remember when I first got my A6 2.7T, I was going to put z04 turbos and stage 3 tune it, exhaust and all the good stuff. I now realize how absolutely idiotic that would have been with this ZF5HP24 trans in it. It is barely surviving the 250HP it's got stock lol. I got to sell this thing before it's a total lose.

Common not so common = Gary knows all about it. Gary, have you heard of Zf 8HP70s having a slight shudder in 5/6/7th around 2000-2500 rpm range? Stay being the man Gary!!

Good work sir gary as always I'm a avid fan of yours my job is automatic transmission but i only know the american cars like gmc ford. The most common transmission.. im 34 years old now i really want to work with you sir gary if only can i want to be your apprentice sir gary. I always want to learn more about transmission.. ps. Sorry for my language sir im born in Philippines

Great video Gary. Inspiring! AT rebuild is a specialist skill. Love to add it to my repertoire. Curious on the 5HP24, I've noticed on several a relatively slight downshift "flare" I'd call it when decelerating, coming to a stop, and specifically on the V8 4.4 engines (X5, 540, 740) and it is basically fixed by increasing the base idle via a scan tool from the default setting (I forget what speed that is) by 50-60 (some guys do 100 I believe) RPM and the issue is gone. Curious if you have any input there. I'd like to try a 5HP24 and a 5HP19 to start getting comfortable with the guts of these automatics. It is an impressive and delicate skill to possess!

I honestly never had that issue, is this a 2-1 downshift bump?

@GaryFerraro I strongly think so (2-1 bump), but I'm not 100% sure. I've experienced it on several 5hp24 models on the BMWs mentioned above from the 2000 Era. But I never actually confirmed by checking the commanded gear. I should add that it also usually does it only when hot (heat soaked) in my experience. Raise the idle manually via scan tool within the vehicle DME or simply turn on AC and issue seems to go away essentially 100%. The idle adjustment is available for both AC and non-AC operating modes. In my experience the 5HP24 is a good gearbox, but it won't last forever. I'd guess they need a rebuild at 180k miles usually. I have used Febi filters successfully in the past VS OEM Filtran, but I am not endorsing them by saying this. Febi filter is usually made in Taiwan for this transmission. I do not like the rubber gasket, and prefer the green paper style gasket.

gary man i’ve been binging your videos about the 6L45 and i have a question. my car is throwing code 56c5 shift valve B stuck in off position and 578E gearbox oil wear. it basically will not engage and go forward sometimes. do you think this could be the check balls?

@@GaryFerraro reverse is 100% but when i put it in drive i have to take it out of drive and put it back in drive a couple times for it to actually move otherwise it just revs up.

@@GaryFerraro i dropped my valvebody today to look at the check balls and i’m gonna disassembly it tomorrow just to check. i have no experience rebuilding transmission and need my car fixed in two weeks before i move if it’s not a check ball or valvebody issue you think i should just buy another transmission?
