In this video I check out the Zhiyun Molus G60 and X100. They’re tiny but powerful COB lights with incredible styling that are discrete and easy to position. Could these be the lights to buy over Aputure, Amaran, Neewer, Godox etc if you need accent, fill, or hair lights?

Thanks for this. Could I check, when you swapped the X100 for your Amaran key, were you using the same diffuser / soft box for the comparison?

Oo what's that wall-mounted arm you have your G60 light on? I've been considering wall spreaders, but that an adjustable small arm would be more convenient.

It’s a pretty affordable mount from neewer, this one amzn.to/3Rsuwnw it’s pretty sweet 😊

Would the G60 be a good portable light for shooting outdoors in shaded areas. I need to just light up my face for talking videos.

In terms of brightness I’d say yes, however you’d need to think about power options. For this application I’d recommend their Fiveray m40 instead, it’s surprisingly bright and has unbelievable battery life. This one 👉🏻 amzn.to/45X36KT I love it 😄

@HarvVideoAudioStuff 👍 Thanks this looks perfect. I have a couple Neewer lights this size with 176 LEDs but they're only 11 watts and 1320 LUX.

I have the X100 in fact I have 2. I did have the G60 as well but sent it back and got the second X100 instead. My problem with the G60 first. It is a great little light and ideal for travelling with EXCEPT the mains unit is huge and the power lead is thicker than the battery leads on my car. I did try a big power bank (maximum size you can carry on a plane) and could not get anywhere near full power output on either the G60 or X100 light. Now the thing to be careful about with the X100 with the battery pack. Firstly at £100.00 it as you say runs for only about 30 mins which is ridiculous. Why on earth you can't as you can on the Aperture cob light use NP batteries I do not know but my biggest problem so far was I let the battery pack run down and forgot to charge it for a few weeks and it would not charge at all. When I went back to Zhiyun from who I bought it directly from the response was far from helpful. In fact at first they were not interested as they said it was out of warranty which is certainly was not. Finally the fan noise did seem to be recorded when I used them for an interview a couple of weeks ago which was a pain. To sum up my feeling I am not sure at the price that I would not have been better with some of the other lights especially if they can use NP batteries which most of us have lots of around.

and also, why you woudnt use them for key light? i mean they have bowens mount so why are they not good for key?
@tomaszbejnarowicz

you saying that they are not good for key, but you not saying why. just for future the reasons might be good to know for us.

It’s a power thing, I suspect most would prefer more power for their key. See 6:05 and 12:24 👍🏻

The biggest downside of these lights is the SSI which is terrible at 73. They advertise irrelevant specs like TLCI and CRI but in real world use-case the only metric you care is SSI, which represents the REAL comparison to the best light rendering we currently have - the sun. In the case of these lights is absolutely unusable for professional setting (maybe okay-ish for some youtube studios)

This is all true but tell me, who is using these for professional/studio work? It’s actually difficult to find any prosumer lights over 74 SSI (daylight of course), even my aputure 600d is only ≥73. For most people power/convenience/value trumps high SSI (as much as I wish there were more high SSI options out there).

@@HarvVideoAudioStuff That's absolutely not true. You need to step up your game bro. The Amaran 60x and 60D S cost 150-200 bucks new (I repeat S) has AMAZING SSI score and it's one of their main advertising point. Your 600d is dinosaur old tech, so it's normal to be worse than even budget lights nowadays. If you need more power just get 100D or 200D (S) models and you will have 90+ SSI score for almost no money. Welcome to 2024 brah

It’s not about stepping up my game. I’d already considered these but they simply don’t have the output I require, can you name any with substantially more output? I’ll wait
@StringerBell
@StringerBell Месяц назад
@HarvVideoAudioStuff In the context of your first question I proved my point. This discussion was never if there is a 600 watts high ssi light. Keep waiting, boy, but step up your game
@HarvVideoAudioStuff
@HarvVideoAudioStuff Месяц назад
What was your point, exactly? If it was that SSI is more important than CRI etc, then I agreed with that in my first reply. Step up my game how? Surely you have a useful suggestion or two and it’s not just hyperbole??
