I am still running a hacked WD Media Centre which has allowed me to access the media centre from the theatre room and make many adjsutments etc. One thing I love is I have in 2D and 3D my own Theatre Bumpers for Coming Soon, Intermission, Sound System, Turn cell phones off, then the movie plays. Just like the experience of a real outting at the theatre. It's done by making a play list. My home screen is of old fashion curtains, so as guest sit in the theatre it looks like theatres did in the old days with theatres closed. Then I select the proper hard drive by remote and play list. And it plays in order...WITHOUT ever having any ON SCREEN Display of any kind. I LOVE THIS. I know it's old. Tested out a lot back then and this version plays everything automatically, Size, Resolution, frame rate, and my fear is the day will come where it will not work anymore. Or I will be needing an update. Does this device allow play lists, and without ON SCREEN DISPLAY. I noticed file names possibly meta info on the top left of the screen. And I would have thought that by now devices would be lighting fast with poster graphics and information. I can't believe things have to populate. With this old Hackde WD my menu is super quick I hardly have to wait for any load time. I am telling you. I fear the day it won't work anymore. Saw your video and decided to take a look. Thanks. I really like the 3D MVC funtion. - Toronto, Canada.

This is by far the best review of this product on RU-vid and the one I wanted to see prior purchasing it. Dont like the sound of steel cover though when you pop on it. Like the part where you described Samba part and how to use it. Would love if you explained a bit more about auto frame rate and other video options. Plan to purchase also down the road 16TB HDD for local storage. Would you recommend 16TB Seagate IronWolf Pro? What are the hard drives you use in your NAS? Does the unit have any USB modules kn the sides or just the ones when you open the front door? Because it si not that usefull.

Thanks! It feels like a quality product when you hold it in my opinion. Auto frame rate will transition your tv from 60hz to 24hz to match the video’s native frame rate. Any hard drive would work really, especially since it probably will only operate when the unit is on. I have many different hard drives in my nas. It has 2 usb 3.0 on the side.

I have the Seagate IronWolf Pro in my Zidoo that was previously installed in my Zappiti and I do not hear noises from the drive when in the unit. Same when I had it in my Zappiti. I hear others on YT complain of issues with drive noise in some of these units. I believe it depends on the make/model and type of drive being used. You should be good with the Seagate IronWolf Pro in this unit. Good Luck. PM

I’m not aware that you can do that. I would just buy a Panasonic 4K Blu-ray player for that.

For tv shows you have type name, season and number of the episode, e.g. Christopher Chance - S01E12 season 1 episode 12. Its time consuming, but all android based file players zidoo, zappitti and dune all use TMDb scraper to populate your posterwall so you will have to use IMDB to match all the episodes in the main folder of the tv show. Once you follow this procedure the zidoo will recognize show and it will pop on the posterwall.

@@Upscaled_Reviews Same here. I could not get my TV shows to work in a Zidoo or Zappiti so they can stay on Plex. I believe Zappiti and Zidoo have the issue with TV shows in their boxes where I have read other YT notes that no one likes the way they scrap TV shows.

Informative, and well done. When trying to match unmatched titles, you say a long press of the remote, which button? Long press of the OK button starts the movie on my box.

Hi there, did you ever tried the RCA audio output and see whether it is high quality stereo audio output and downmixed from say true hd 7.1 channel when playing a movie , or if you are playing a CD quality wave file, is the audio output cd quality and can be used to connect to Hi Fi system ?

I have tested rca audio out since I use this as a video player although I think it has a pretty solid dac. The uhd3000 has a good dac for sure.

I just got my z2000 Pro, and I'm curious if you have had any headaches as I have with match frame-rate and switching between HDR/SDR specifically for Dolby Vision. I have the z2000 --> Yamaha A4A AVR --> Epson LS12000 4k projector. No matter what I do, if I leave auto resolution and match frame-rate on, it behaves very flaky, often times outputting my BD and UHD BD mkv rips that are 23.97 fps as 4k/60. The only thing I have been able to do really is hard set the Zidoo UI to 4k/23 (which is their way of saying 4k/23.97) to minimize frame rate change hdmi syncs The other thing is dolby vision files.I have HDR set to auto. Even with the Zidoo hard set at 4k/23 if I open a file with DV it either outputs it without the "HDR" light popping on so the colors are all screwed up, or it outputs properly using the VS10 engine but again at 4k/60 instead of matching the frame rate. Super frustrating basic stuff that seems broken or spotty at best in my setup. I emailed support last week and have not even got a reply.

never use auto try to set it to wht ever it is you are trying to watch somthing to do with the hdmi hand shake sometimes auto does not work

Great Walkthrough Video 👌 Once the Movies & covers are installed, can this Media player play & display movies, cover art etc as normal WITHOUT AN INTERNET connection ? I wish my current Zappiti Neo player did this without rescanning my entire collection every time i put it in offline mode or added a new title. Sucks big time that Zappiti are going into liquidation at the end of the year. Im considering one of these Zidoo Z1000 Pro Media Player only if the new Zappiti app & its small connection fee is no good long term. Time will tell i guess. Zidoo interface looks really good or maybe slightly better than Zappiti 👍 also how does the image & sound quality compare with Zappiti ? Is the Zidoo playback on the same level of quality as a Physical Disk ? Note playback quality question is for a Std HD LED T.V not a projector.

Huge thanks for this excellent, very informative video. I have a Zidoo Z1000 Pro and recently put a 16TB HDD into the internal drive bay. Unfortunately, as soon as I pressed play on the first film the immersion was totally ruined by the almost continual grinding and clunking from the HDD, a Seagate Exos X16. I've overcome this with an external 5 bay HDD enclosure (Terramaster D5-300C) and a long USB cable to hide the enclosure in another room. All working well. I have a question if you could answer - would it be beneficial to put a small SSD (via a 2.3 to 3.5 adapter) into the internal bay and, if possible, set the Zidoo to use that internal SSD as a store for the posters, thumbnails etc? Would that load the posterwall etc faster? There is a 'Custom' location in the menu - is that the unit's own 32GB eMMC storage, or does it mean anything connected to the internal 3.5 bay?

I’ve been using the internal storage (32GB) and set a custom folder. I think it did increase the speed of posters quicker. It’s not night an day but it’s noticeable. I haven’t tested an internal ssd but I doubt it would be any quicker but who knows.

Since I'm not going to put a large 3.5" HDD into the internal bay, I might as well utilise it by putting a cheap quiet SSD into it (with the adapter) and set that as the custom location. It'll keep things together and should offer a bump in speed compared to a NAS or USB cable. Additionally, it'll free up the Zidoo's 32GB storage for more apps or other things, not that I have a lot installed.

I need your helps. I finished setting my zidoo UH2000 like you have. However. I hit scan SMB, it won’t recognize my NAS. I connect my zidoo player through WiFi, not Ethernet. NAS is connected though Ethernet to my router of course. I have synology NAS. Under file service. I did check box Enable SMB service. Yet my zidoo couldn’t find the NAS under SMB scan.

It depends on the bitrate of your video and the distance between the zidoo and your router. If you have a strong signal it may work but 4k may be spotty.

They are stored locally on the Zidoo in the storage/download folder. But you can setup a custom folder and store on a NAS or network PC if you prefer.

The nvidia shield has the best upscaler. Personally, I think TVs do the best job at upscaling other than the shield.

Hey new subscriber here thank you very much. I just came across your channel. I must say I am so confused with all the different streaming services and ways to do all this. It seems like there’s so many choices. How do you decide what avenue to pick? To be honest I mostly watch RU-vid I don’t even watch Network TV anymore although I used to enjoy shows like American Idol and some of those type of shows and I love any kind of documentary or rescue stuff. How is this different from having a streaming service like Netflix or Amazon prime or some kind of android box that I’ve seen advertised I know this is a very big question, but, any guidance would be appreciated. I just feel lost in all of this.

I would go with an Apple TV. They just work. I use them mostly for streaming stuff. I use the Zidoo to play videos from my own local library of movies that I keep on my network.

MKVs are popular but that’s just the video codec container. A benefit would be ripping 4K blu rays to mkvs, which retain Dolby vision.

I don’t think you can do both. You remove movies from collections but you can’t have both.

Highlight the watched movie and press the hamburger button in upper left corner of the OK button. You should see an option to nark as watched. The movie will then be removed from watched list. Good Luck

You have some great looking raccoon 🦝 eyes 👀 in your theater 😅. I hope when you move into a new home, you’ll invest into a soft box light to fix that, even a cheap beauty light would improve your look on camera 😉 The worst light is one that’s above a person, creating bad and harsh looking shadows, such as the recessed lights in your HT room. Great background, but horrible lighting for shooting pictures/videos of people’s faces. Just a heads up! 😎 Love the videos though, very thorough! 👏 Also, I wonder if the posters don’t load as fast because the device uses an emc - type of flash storage memory, which can be slower than an SSD or maybe it loads it off the network each time ... 🤷‍♂️

How can you say that this is a quality unit? Especially after you knocked on top of it? This thing is made of thin steel sheet metal that rambles! Your standards are way too low, man. Have you seen something like Aurender or Auralic and similar high-quality units?

really 449dollars you have to to be kidding me, an android 9.0 old technology box??? dude send your box back and get a Beelink Mini PC, an example would be, Beelink Mini PC, AMD Ryzen 5 5500U(6C/12T, Up to 4.0GHz), 16GB DDR4 RAM 500GB NVMe SSD, SER5 Win 11 Mini Desktop Computer Support 4K@60Hz Output/WiFi 6/BT5.2/Dual HDMI2.0/USB3.2, there around 299 dollars on amazon. there about 4" x 4" by 2" high, and put kodi for windows on it for a home media center. Android 9 .. yah right i wouldnt accept this thing if it was free. not with all of the higher performing windows 11 mini pc`s out there. Im sure the OP has good intentions and really wants to get upscaled , but please, stop promoting and buying old technology android 9.0 boxes. your not getting anymore security updates and you leave yourself vulnerable to security exploits.

I see where you’re coming from. I have used home theater pcs for almost a decade. They’re really bad at switching between hdr and sdr. It’s also a lot more complicated to set up vs something this. If you’re concerned with security, the Nvidia shield can do about 80% of what the Zidoo can do for less money.

@@Upscaled_Reviews it shouldnt be a question of switching beteween hdr and sdr, the switching betwewen hdr and sdr is done in the settings of your television, not in your media center pc. your television can either accept an hdr signal or not. the quality of that signal is in how much bandwidth your hdmi cable carries and how much bandwidth your television will accept. you could have a really incredible hdr10+ television and use a 1.4 hdmi spec`d cable(not relizing you grabbed an old cable) and have a really lousy experiance because the bandwidth that that cable can carry is not enough to carry the hdr10+ bandwidth.
