Tony and Vinnie are two cats that can do something so left field and it still sounds great.

What an unbelievable flow Vinnie has on the kit!! I have lots of audio bootlegs of his clinics and he always sounds fresh.. Amazing!

Was taking lessons with Tony and he said he was off to london for a zildjan day. When he came back I said look forward to getting the video. He said he was unhappy with his performance and would not allow its release. And here it is.

Tony Williams solo is amazing. His musicality; technique, groove and swing are unsurpassed. We can only try to imagine what could have been. Best ever in my opinion.

This is a Gem. I've been looking for this session for a long time. I had it recorded on cassette tape. I believe it was played on a weekly radio show which was narrated by Branford. Used to drive around, delivering pizzas, jamming to this session all night long.

In the 90s I used to travel an hour on the train on weekends to go to the drum shop, where they'd play videos like this.

Just when I was starting to feel I was getting the hang of it and letting it flow all proud of myself I messed up and watched this. Back to remedial drumming I go. Wow. Just Wow. Sometimes being humbled in another's light is better than shining in your own. Much gratitude to the divine for making such talented individuals for us to enjoy.

For 45 years there has but one man who occupies the #1 spot for me, never to be dethroned. That man is Dave Weckl. No smoother, more fluid, melodic, musical, technical drummer has ever lived. His style should be mandatory. His transitions are impeccable. His phrasing is awe-inspiring. His groove is astounding. His pocket is deep. He is as consummate as they come. At this level it is merely a matter of taste. Vinnie, Donati, Borlai, Smith, Sucherman, Coleman and a fistful of others are equal to, or close to, the task, but Dave's style, for me, is unsurpassed.
