I bought a used R24 probably 5 years ago. I never had the time to learn how to use it. Never got the manual. I'm retired now. I have the time now! So thanks. ThankYouVeryMuch.

I felt I had to comment to say thank you for taking the time to create these videos!! After basically giving up on using the zoom for recording, having tried so many times to make sense is the manual, I am so excited that I can finally make use of something that cost me a lot of money as I also invested in some quality mackie monitors and a decent condenser mic, all of which Have not had much use, as I completely lost heart.........until now. I'm jumping around with excitement after watching your vids, because not only can I follow it, I understand what you mean!! Thank you so much!!!

@@topdazzle @Floyd Steinberg sir, are you audio engineer? Can zoom r24 change the humbucker pickup tone to the single coil by using parametric eq in display mode or amp eq in insert effect mode? If can, would you please give me the detail of the parameter and patch setting.... tq sir...

A beginner's band build will usually be drums, bass, rhythm, lead guitar, voice, in that order. That's the KISS version: it you've got backing singers, keyboards, other instruments, enjoy.

Topdazzle, great tutorial dude. I have the Zoom R8, the little brother to the 24 and basically everything you showcase here applies to the R8. I'm extremely happy with my Zoom as you probably are with yours. As a lone musician, this recorder is invaluable in allowing me to capture every moment of inspiration I can muster. I record a drums track (included), then add bass, guitar, keyboard and vocals. The effects are great and mastering a breeze. Thanks for your good work and keep 'em coming!

This is still a really great interface many years after it was made. I’m surprised companies haven’t tried to duplicate this kind of digital recorder/interface/control surface hybrid for current software. Thank you so much for this tutorial series, it’s a selfless thing you did that really helps out the audio community.

Well done brother...I went to college for music production and engineering about 25 years ago and have been out of the "recording" business for about 10 years to pursue other interests. I just recently have had the bug to begin creating and recording music again and came across this zoom r24 and have been wondering whether I should by it and if it's sounds good or is it too good to be true...your video's have dusted all the old cobwebs off of my brain and have showed me that the zoom r24 is indeed a wonderful and powerful tool to create and record music with. Thank-you for creating such in depth tutorials to show all of us how to jump right in and begin using this wonderful machine. I can't wait to watch the next ones in the series especially the ones that have to do with the sampler.

I bought one of these a few years ago and have used it to put down and some song ideas and even did a demo for my band . After not using it for so long I forget some of the simple functions , these videos make it easy to follow along and see. "Ahaa" that's how you do it .. The manual helps ,but I learn best by watching others ... Thanks for making these Videos.

"topdazzle"... Once again, you are my hero! I hadn't used my R24 for a while and was setting up a recording session today. I wanted a bit of vocal effects and began my dive into the R24 settings. After I chose my effect - and chose "wet" during record, there was still nothing coming through. 30 minutes later - after mashing many buttons - my brain began to melt-down, and I quit my session. Then I remembered the awesome tutorials that you produce - which I have watched (may times) in the past - and I found this one. BINGO! Your very detailed and well organized video reminded me that I totally forgot to adjust the "Pan/Eq Send." Thanks!!

I was looking for a quick tutorial on effects because they kept disappearing on playback. I had been skipping over your videos because they're so long and I was looiing for insyant gratification (I can't help it - I'm American.) After failing to find the magic 3 minite video that answeres all my questions, I decided to listen to listen to yours on my drive home from work. At first I was annoyed because I felt like it was dragging on without providing anything useful, but I continued listening and I'm glad I did. I still have not gotten to the info I need, but I've learned a few little things I had not discovered yet, so I'm going keep watching/listening. Very thorough, bro!
@topdazzle
@topdazzle 9 лет назад
Lol - cheers Ryan and apologies for not being the "quick fix" you needed! There's a hell of a lot of material here and getting it all covered I was left with a choice between "quick" and "thorough" (I chose "thorough") but what I did do was put quick links in the video description so you can get straight to the part that interests you without getting wound up by all my waffle - hope that helps and glad you are getting some use out of them - they're not everyone's cup of tea!!

Got my R24 2 days ago, the first night with it was frustrating. I Just watched only part 1 so far, and it has me up and going. I recorded a CD on a VS 880 back in '99, then got the VS 1824 CD, but the illness of my wife and her passing demotivated me to get into it. Now I'm ready to record again, with a friend. The 1824 is still like new, but not enough inputs, memory, or DAW controller capability. The 1824 has better mastering capabilities, so I'm hoping that it will still be useful. The VS series had 99 levels of "undo", which I will miss on the R24. But thanks to your videos, I'm confident that ultimately the R24 will serve my needs well. Thank you for your time and effort, which judging by the posts, has been a blessing (in a human way) for many musical and creative people. Cheers (My 1998 VS 880 album, The Call, can currently be listened to free (for a while) at my website, vangarrick.com.)

Phillip VanGarrick I can relate to the initial frustration.. I tried to jump right into using it without even glancing at the instructions. Once I slowed down and took the time to learn all the R24's nuances I realized just powerful it can be. This guys videos were a big help to. I've watched them all, and even refer back to them on occassion. Sorry to hear that you lost your wife. I hope you use the R24 to record a song to honor her memory. Good luck!

Hey and thanks for the kind comment! Although I've not used the R24 for what you intend so have no experience with that side of things, the R24 is capable of having files assigned to tracks directly from the USB stick or the memory card (that's how you use the drum loops included with the R24). As the R24 works with .WAV files, in theory I don't see any reason why you could not put a backing track on the R24 to sing over as long as the file naming and folder structures are maintained so that...

Hey - thanks very much Alvaro - you are very kind and I appreciate your comments. As for the Latin drums - there may well be latin drum samples either built into the R24 as a drum pattern or included on the USB stick full of drum loops that you get with the R24 but to be honest, I haven't checked this out so I don't know. I'll take a look for you and respond here when I find out. Thanks again and best wishes.

Rest assured Ken, you have been informed correctly - you can do it all on the device including some really sweet sounding mastering effects and it is really straightforward. I recorded the video last night and it covers the whole process in about 40 minutes (but you can probably skip the first 20 as it's just me waffling on about what mixing and mastering actually means). Yes - loads of them, available for all sorts of things from stereo inputs, guitars, bass, vocals, etc. and they're really rather good too with fully adjustable parameters - they are accessed using the Insert Effect function which will be the subject of Part 4 as it's a little bit tricky to use until you get the hang of it.

Especially excellent for me, as I just got my new ZoomR24 from Musicians Friend yesterday, and some key questions about use of the effects and how to reset and get familiar with the menus etc. were answered. Thanks very much for this superb series of videos. I've had my R24 since the Spring but have only just come around to deciding I now have the songs and the motivation to get on with confronting the actual process of recording - or, at least, planning to record. Very much appreciated and enjoyed your "basic recording" video tutorial on the Zoom R24. You made it very easy to follow and understand. Thank you. Looking forward to watching your other tutorials on this device. Cheers!

Thank you very kindly for the tutorial. I like the pace, and I don't think some people realize how much is being covered in a relatively short space. I read that there was not any renumeration from Zoom. Google and Zoom are certainly capitalizing on these videos, for I see a Zoom ad every time I look at this series. These are collectively more informative than the DVD tutorial I bought for $30usd on Amazon. The main difference is the video production here is SLIGHTLY less professional, but even then, this one is in higher resolution. I realize this was not intended to be professional nor commercial. It just seems a pity you cannot market your tutorials; particularly in contrast. I would have paid something to download these; pay you, that is, not Google/RU-vid.

Hey - apologies for the delayed response - I must have missed your comment / query somehow. It's been a while since I used drums on this machine but I'll check it out for you to remind myself how it works and get back to you - from what I can recall, it's very straightforward but there are a few different ways of doing it. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for sharing , I just bought an R 24 to replace my zoom R8 which was a great unit in itself but they are very similar platform but I learned a couple things that I didn't know from watching your video very important key to applying the Reverb and the chorus to use the the pan EQ button very important to know how to activate the Reverb thanks again !

Brilliant!! look forward to it!! I was told when I bought the Zoom 24 that I could do everything in the machine itself then just transfer the mixed down Masterpiece (Hah!) into my I-Tunes library, then burn CD's from that - Having failed miserably to master my Roland VS-1680 (it's now for sale!) I need this process to be simple! - I don't want to be transfering the finished Master into Cubase (which comes with the Zoom) - that's a step too far for me! Cheers, Ken

Hi, its a bit late from when you first posted these tutorials but I have only just bought my Z8 hence finding your site while looking for help. Your tutorials have been a godsend thank you so much for doing these and making them so easy to follow and informative. I really like the casual, down to earth and demonstrative way in which you have done these, you really have been so helpful. Thankyou and you have also gained another subscriber :) take care

Christian Ista Works great for tracking drums - use the "8xCompEQ" insert effect for independent compression and EQ on each of the 8 inputs at the same time!

A nice but long presentation. Most viewers want quick answers without long explanations. Although I think "topdazzle" takes some time getting to the point, he has smartly included a time index for the different sections so we can jump ahead to features we need help with. Unfortunately, viewers like me don't think of clicking on the "SHOW MORE" button which drops down to reveal the hidden index. I'd suggest that the clip's notes should start with "click on SHOW MORE for the time index" The index is very useful but it's just not visible until SHOW MORE is clicked. Thanks for your efforts. Good luck and record some great music.

Cheers for that man - very much appreciated and a good idea. The only thing I would disagree with is your comment concerning "Most viewers..." - certainly a combination of my own experience, the feedback below and my intended target audience when I put these together would suggest to me that most viewers actually want the context and the background explanation (don't forget, these videos are aimed at folk with no audio experience whatsoever and so they probably don't understand what multi-track is, how to EQ effectively, etc.) and not simply to be shown which button to press or which menu item to select - I think the manual gives people this without the explanation or context / examples which wasn't much help to me when starting out. Anyhow, like I said, thanks for your feedback - all views gratefully received, especially when put across in the right way like you did! Cheers.

topdazzle The time it took you to reply you could edit the notes section. I did realize this tutorial is for amateurs after a few minutes. I'm a professional who records with computers but I was looking for instructional clips for a friend. I just downloaded and read the entire R8 manual in under an hour and I'll just help the friend via phone or Skype. In my biz "fast and concise" is the number one credo. No one wastes time on smalltalk. You can't rely just on the posted comments (many who complain about the length) because there are many who bailed on this long clip to find answers on shorter clips. But hey, it's your channel. Talk away! No reply needed. The manual wasn't hard to understand. Cheers.

Thanks for your videos. I am thinking of getting one of the many recorders and the R24 is a front runner at the moment. Although I know the most of what you explain, it's great that you make such detailed videos about the unit. But best of all: You sound like DS Carling from Life on Mars, which makes your tutorials even more enjoyable!
