Here’s something mind boggling. Johnny Gioeli didn’t think he did a good job with the lyrics when he first wrote this, even though Jun Senoue said it was great. Johnny only realised how much fans loved Live and Learn at the first live Crush 40 show in 2008.
Ok now imagine this performed live and with an entire symphony behind it and you have the absolute best version of this song I highly recommend checking out the entire sonic symphony cuz it was beyond perfect

The song is about presumably Shadow. He is a character that is making up for the sins of the past. Sonic Adventure 2 is a game about a government cover up and the repurcussions and the people that this black ops mission hurt. Shadow was one of the people hurt and misled to take out his anger on the rest of the world in an act of justice. This song is played in the final boss where Shadow's mind is now clear, and is ready to close the book on this chapter of his life and make up for what he's done. Even if it means sacrificing himself in the process.

From what I know, Open Your Heart was originally written by Jun Sunoe, the composer of the Sonic Adventure, and this includes the lyrics, the lyrics were then translated into English and given to his friend Johnny to sing. This is why in the song, there is no rhyming and lyrics don’t rlly have anything to do with each other aside from thematically, because the lyrics didn’t translate 100% from Japanese into English. However, when it came to Live and Learn, Johnny and Jun wrote the song together so Johnny was able to write the lyrics which is why lyrically, Live and Learn is so much better than Open Your Heart. This is how they write their songs for the rest of their tenure in the series and is how most other songs with other artists were made too. In Frontiers, the composer Tomoya Ohtani, wrote the instrumentals for Kellin Quin and Merry-Kirk Holmes and the melody but they weite the words.
They don't rhyme but the lyrics in Open Your Heart do make sense with each other. All of them either describe the final fight with Perfect Chaos (how wrecked Station Square is, how scared everyone is, etc.), or Sonic's motivation for fighting him. Sonic was trying to get Chaos to come to his senses instead of outright destroying him, or trapping him back in the Master Emerald; that's where the chorus and title of the song comes from. And hell, the rest of the chorus is describing what the Super Sonic form is like. Sonic literally can't hold on much longer, with the rings counting down and all. It sucks how many people think the song doesn't make any sense whatsoever, like it all got lost in translation or it's entirely a mood piece. Open Your Heart does paint a complete picture!
In Frontiers the songs were all written by Tyler Smyth if I’m not mistaken. At least the Titan themes were. Kellin may have had some input but from my knowledge the only person credited with writing the lyrics was Smyth
To me, it’s a three way tie between between Live and Learn, City Escape (which is also from SA2), and Endless Possibility from Sonic Unleashed. City Escape is literally my childhood because back in my day (oh god I can’t believe I said that…) Walmart still did those game demos where you get to play what was coming out and SA2 Battle was coming out and I played City Escape every time I went to Walmart until they switched out the GameCube games they were promoting. And that was literally how I got introduced to Sonic and I thank the gods that I grew up with him.
Next up is the Ultimate Comeback Song "WHAT I'M MADE OF". This song plays for the True Final Battle and it's surprisingly NOT the main Theme. The context is that Metal Sonic(The real antagonist) has gathered enough power in his mind to be more powerful than Sonic himself and wants to take his place as the REAL Sonic. He has been stealing combat data from all the playable characters from behind the scenes and once he has it all, he begins his attack and it takes everyone to put him down because he becomes too powerful for any one person to defeat by themselves. So this song is basically about the Heroes making a miraculous comeback against a Foe that has all their abilities That wants to replace them, at least that's how I see it, others may say different but that's cool too

Favorite sonic song is probably find your flame, runner up being supporting me, also from sonic adventure 2 Sonic Adventure 2 is my favorite sonic game!!! Although admittedly a good amount of that is cus shadows character arc in it is genuinely amazing.
You should listen to "Knight of the Wind" from Sonic and the Black Knight. The game was mixxed to say the least but the soundtrack was a banger as always.
You definitely shouldn't have a problem watching the Symphony, SEGA is one of those companies that fully embraces stuff like this and they even popped in officially to some other creator's live chats watching it the day it actually originally aired so they definitely are fine with reacting over it. Plus they actually had fans who make Sonic content take part in the event so they are definitely fine with fan content.
Sonic Adventure and the games after all have multiple vocal tracks for stages and characters other than just their main themes so theres a lot. If you want you dont have to wait to make a video for all, but def give them a listen cause theyre amazing
One rlly cool thing that they did with Open your heart & Live & learn is that through out they're respective games (SA1 & SA2) you hear bits and pieces of the song either as lyte motifs or just small pieces of the tracks with either muffled or missing vocals, as a way to kind of tease you with the main theme, until you reach the final boss and get to hear the full theme with vocals while fighting an epic battle to save the world! rlly wish more Sonic games and games in general would do creative stuff like this with the soundtrack
For example, in the song "Supporting Me", during the chorus (starting with the line "To the pressure"), the distorted strings in the background are subtly playing the leitmotif of Live and Learn (it's much clearer in the Generations remix). For another example, the second verse of "City Escape" features the line "Trust your feelings, got to _Live and Learn!"_

His world is probably my favorite. It's the main theme of sonic 06'. If you ever do a reaction of it you are in for a treat. Because it actually has 2 different versions of it. One by crush 40 and the other by zebrahead. Both sound completely different but are amazing at the same time. Sonic rush is my favorite game 😊
all the main themes are pretty fantastic. each game also has other vocal themes in them as well thats not just the theme of that game. my favorite game is SA2 but my favorite song is probably "his world" by zebrahead. mainly the remake of it they did.
You can't ask someone what they're favorite Sonic song is, LOL. Totally depends on the mood. For me its a tough one between SA 1 It doesnt matter and SH what im made of. SR diamond in the sky comes very close.
for the longest time (literal years) Catch Me If You Can from Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity had been my all-time favorite vocal Sonic theme, then I played Sonic Frontiers and Break Through It All quickly dethroned it and became my new favorite haha. Catch Me If You Can continues being my 2nd favorite though
Crush 40 really did pretty amazing here. They made a song that is so cliche and yet its so ggod because their performance and lyrics make up for it. Like the music itself is pretty cookie cutter but damn does it hit hard
Hi again lmao My personal favorite game is Sonic Frontiers, i just had a really good experience and I'm excited for what the DLC has in store, but a close runner up is Sonic Colors, if only for the nostalgia factor since that was my first Sonic Game For song recommendations, I do have one that I'm not seeing a lot of people recommend. It's called "Fading World - Imperial Tower" from Sonic Forces. It gives me kind of a j-pop kind of feel tbh if you're interested in that. I also have a bunch of songs that are more instrumental in nature if you're interested in ones without much in the way of lyrics. Imo Live and learn is about Shadow, the black hedgehog and Sonic's rival, but he's really not a bad guy in this game. He's misguided and wants solace and revenge for things that happened to him in the past. By the end of the game though, he sees he's been wrong about wanting to get revenge on the Earth, has some revelations, and learns there's a better way. So yeah, Shadow i would say. He's probably the best "villain" or character even in the entire Sonic franchise
Not that you need to upload a video of you reacting to it, but I highly recommend checking out the version of Live and Learn from the Sonic Symphony anniversary event. It was the last song played and it brought the house down. Every song that night brought new life to fan favorite music tracks.
Love and Learn from Sonic Adventure 2 and Unnown from ME from Sonic Adventure 1. But I must admit the songs in Frontiers are right up there too. As for my fave Sonic game, it would be Sonic 3 and Knuckles with Sonic 2 and Adventure 2 in close second and third place.

I managed to track down the official live performance at Summer of Sonic 2016, I was up the front in this crowd and it was worth it. Sadly this isn't the best performance from Johnny; but thats why the crowd carried things through; for context he flew in the night before from germany having done a gig with Axel rudi pell and had a horrible cold during all of this.
