I like that the characters actually move fast when they run, I am not a fan of being slow in these type of games

Especially enemies. I remember alt tabbing out more than once during bg3 EA cause enemies moved sooo slowly.

That's why I can't stand Larian games. Everything is so slow, and you can't state it because of the angry fanboy mobs. "Uh then play CoD kid". Yeah sorry that the "kid" has a life and needs to pay for a house and car instead of slowly walking through virtual forests

Some mechanics forcing you to go back to the city are reminding me of Might&Magic X, which is rough, but had some charm. The point was to get your party to the level when it can be autonomous with all the perks, spells, ect.

I actually mildly liked MMX, so that might not be a bad thing. Some games can be rough around the edges gameplay wise, but still fun to play.

town trainers are absolutely an old school might and magic design that I kindof love. I don't think they were ever perfectly implemented, but its a fun, immersive idea that I think should be revisited for sure. wow of course had trainers.. tyranny has them, but for a different mechanic. I think if I ever had the time to make my dream rpg, what I would do is have town trainers. on level up, you need to go back to them to level up. and here's the key to making them great. have target dummies, and training grounds. on level up, you can respec for free, in the training grounds. try out the new skills, or stat point placement. and only confirm the selection when you leave.

I value more content and replayability than story, you don't even need a story to have a classic like Tetris or most of the arcade games. Of course for rpgs is a little different.

@@Re-PhantomZero That argument can hold water with some genres, though like you said, RPGs (and CRPGs especially) is not the genre to do story-lite in, imo.

@@T8-TR🤔 brother that’s what a majority of the games used to be, people just started calling them rouge likes. Still a load of classics released each year and some of the longest developed games lack story, Nethack, ADOM etc

I am about 60 hours into the game and am really enjoying it. It took a bit to get used to the systems. If you like story rich games, turn-based combat, RPGs, loot and crafting, this may be a game for you. The story is good, the combat is interesting (buffs, debuffs, stuns, different types of damage and magic). The skill trees are simpler but I love being able to manage my stats through my gear. My wizard has a 40% crit chance. Lots of fun!

I played the demo of this a while ago, my first thoughts were... not great, but not too terrible. I could see what they were going for and when it all comes together it's actually pretty solid, but it felt like for every good thing you got, you get one or two bad things going along with it. Balancing was one of my biggest peeves, which for a indie is not always easy to do, It just felt a bit wild in the early parts of the demo for me. I'll probably keep a watch on this, if they can shore up that awful start you mentioned, it might be worth another look!

I couldn't really get past the Intro, it felt too janky :( Didn't help that I started as a mage and everyone was attacking him and ignoring the frontline. Does it get much better after or just easier combat?

As an aside, I don't know if you've seen the news but sadly Unfortold Witchstone is dead and ceasing development. Very unfortunate state of affairs and a promising CRPG is lost :(
