Thank you to the publisher for providing a review copy. Today we're reviewing "Zoria: Age of Shattering", an indie CRPG releasing today on PC. Steam Curator: store.steampowered.com/curato... Twitter: maddmike_722?lang=en
I used to do summaries, but folks have been responding far better to the abbreviated scripts. I tried to find a happy middle ground by having the Steam review be the written content of the script + an obvious “in conclusion” summary. Recognize that it’s an awkward experience for folks who read the whole thing then go to the video, but trying to satisfying people who want one but not the other.
I am about 60 hours into the game and am really enjoying it. It took a bit to get used to the systems. If you like story rich games, turn-based combat, RPGs, loot and crafting, this may be a game for you. The story is good, the combat is interesting (buffs, debuffs, stuns, different types of damage and magic). The skill trees are simpler but I love being able to manage my stats through my gear. My wizard has a 40% crit chance. Lots of fun!
I guess thank you for sharing your honest opinion about the game even if it was largely negative. I am considering buying the game and it's helpful to have a more full picture of what I am getting myself into lol.
Thanks for the review, I will pass on this one, it's sad to see another party based rpg not meeting expectations, a recent game Dark Envoy suffers the same conditions though I still forced myself to finish it that I adore their previous game. I took a look of your other videos as well, I'll give Mortal Glory 2 a go, looks like a fun one.
Watchers, take note: this video is entirely about what the reviewer disliked about the game, with no explanation of any of its systems. Had I only followed this video, I would have missed out on a fun RPG with lots of charm and, yes clunk, but also with enough interesting systems to keep things entertaining. To the reviewer: I understand your frustration with the game, but as a reviewer (as you pride yourself in being one), aren't you supposed to give each game a fair review? Simply bashing a game by going through the list of things you disliked doesn't form a review, it's subjective criticism. If you are going to begin your video with a lecture about doing a fair review and not simply pandering, make sure it's really what you are doing. When people - among which are people new to your channel - look for a game review, they will often be on the fence about getting it, sometimes because of its flaws, sometimes because some things look interesting (even if you, the reviewer, don't like them) and they want an opinion on those things. The only thing we're getting from your review is "there's nothing cool" and we have to take your word for it. Your review could have been about an entirely different game without anyone noticing. No word about the myriad of recruitable characters with, for some of them, unique classes and skills. No word about the crafting system, about how cooking and alchemy tie into the camping system. Nothing about attrition management, about how most classes open new possibilities in the world like creating bridges, dispelling cursed land or destroying rubble to find hidden loot. I'm not trying to white knight this game, but I am genuinely enjoying it and I feel that this review misses the point of being a review. On an unrelated sidenote: the game has received many patches that have changed how some systems work, as the devs seem to listen actively to their community.
Saw your review on steam. Very considerate. It is a pity that such projects dont succeed - but that is a problem for the devs, not the reviewer. Thanks for the honesty and keep it up with the good work :)
Had this game on my wishlist since a while.I bought a few games in the last weeks and regretted one after another... Thanks for saving my time and money this time!
I feel the same way- i havent bought it yet, i probably will some day (on discount)- but your feelings were pretty much my impressions from the demos ive played TWICE at different stages of development... and i love some very indie, very janky games.
Do we really need a 4 minute disclaimer of your verdict in a 7 min video? rofl I didn't even make it to the review fdor Christs sake before I had to shut you down....
There's LITERALLY one minute and 4 seconds of "pre-amble" before the review. That "pre-amble" is framing for the review btw. I think these comments are from actual children whose attention span is measured in seconds.
Responsible reviewers describe their experience with a game and do not pander to developers or other reviewers. You did just that. Great job. It's a small thing but I love that the character creator allows you choose between male and female on not "body type" which I find obnoxious.
