It's one of those jokes that don't cross the language barrier very well. All anime has that problem at some point, whether their original language is English, Japanese, or Korean. (does China make anime? Genuine question. If so, then Chinese too) some lines just don't work outside of their native language

Yup Many people in the west don’t recognize that Song is wearing traditional Korean clothing. Many categorize the Earth Kingdom as being “Chinese” in a broad sense, but scenes like this have highlighted that there’s a Korean element to their culture as well.

​@@UndertakerU2ber At some point in time, Korea and China shared the same land. Eventually, Korea and China became separated, and Japan tried its conquest on both which makes this scene even more significant.

@@jjrobledo24 I’d imagine that must’ve been the case a very long time ago. My schools never gave me a deep history lesson on the eastern Asian countries, but I think I heard that nearly a millennium ago, European sailors that were traveling to China could end up getting shipwrecked on Korea’s shores (perhaps it was under the Joseon dynasty) and the sailors would end up getting slaughtered due to the nation’s hostility towards foreigners at the time. I think China was much more receptive at the time; Japan would eventually become isolationists, but now all three of those countries are far different entities than they once were historically.

Every kind of animation, regarless of its style and/or country of origin is "anime", since the word basically means "animation" in Japanese. If you're wondering if it's Japanese animation though, it's not. But it is Korean.

@@KnotPhound It is a very nuanced topic, but saying Avatar the Last Airbender is Korean is like saying The Simpsons is a Korean show. They’re both animated by studios in South Korea with many talented artists working there. But I think people generally consider a show like The Simpsons to be “American” due to its writing, storyboard, and original character designs being created by a team of Americans in the US. The animation studio definitely deserves credit and recognition, but I think under most people’s perspective, Avatar would be considered an American show despite its overtly Asian influences drawn from many different cultures.

@@UndertakerU2ber The big difference here is the creative control they have. First off, The Simpson's animation workers are usually uncredited and not just Korean studios work on the show, but some Canadian, Phillipine and American animation studios as well. These studios have almost no creative freedom when it comes to the visual approach of the show. ATLA and TLOK in the other hand, would not be what they are if studios like JM Animation and Studio Mir respectively weren't heavily involved in the production of both shows. They are pretty much responsible for things like timing, action sequences, character designs, backgrounds and even the storyboards. Plus, thanks to the Avatar franchise, Korean animation is now taken more seriously. Sure, the whole thing was originally planned in the US, but I think of it as more of a co-production with South Korea rather than a big studio just wanting to cut down production costs.
