I’m the same on the crush washers. If I have one I use it but don’t go out of my way to make sure I have them.

@@sunsetsportbikes9435 I know you always run across parts so if you run a Ya upper nose for 91 92 Zx7 I’m looking for one. I just got one off eBay and it ended up being aftermaked fiberglass. Bummer

Why didn’t you clock the last friction plate into the other position that’s there?
@sunsetsportbikes9435
@sunsetsportbikes9435 3 года назад
What do you mean? There really isn't a certain way to put the friction plates in?
@myz06rocks
@myz06rocks 3 года назад
@@sunsetsportbikes9435 unfortunately yes. The grooves that are located slightly clockwise are typically where the last friction plate goes. I know it’s that way in my zx9 and other bikes also.

@@myz06rocks the pressure plate spins. It doesn't matter where it's plates when you put it back on as long as the teeth grab.

@@sunsetsportbikes9435 ok. Your bike. Checked service manual it is clear also. Last friction plate is clocked in the other location. Don’t know the consequences but I’d imagine the first plate isn’t supposed to slide in/out as much as the rest of the basket.

yo maybe you could help me out with some advice here - so iv just collected a zx7r that has been off the road stored for the last 4-5 years, its been kept running here and there and well stored in a nice temp controlled enviroment etc so everything is cool with the bike the only thing that appears to be letting it down is the clutch is slipping under wide open throttle as you get up the rev range, could this be friction plates sticking after being laid up for a while? it had a oil and filter change a few weeks ago before i got it and the dude used semi-synth motul 10-40 which would appear to rule out it being oil...

You'll need a new clutch. It was probably slipping before the previous owner put it up. I use 10w40 full synthetic Castrol with a k&n oil filter. Clutch sounds like it's for sure gone. I never replace the friction plates and not the steel plates

@@sunsetsportbikes9435 it had a new clutch in 2013 dude about 5k miles old it had a clutch and spring kit hence me thinking its sticking plates. Sorry I should have added that info initially too!

@@s1dew1nd3r4 if you feel like it's slipping in the higher RPMs thats the only thing that can be wrong with it. Everything else Is driven by gears. The fibers in the clutch more than likely started to Deteriorate over the 7 to 8 years it's been in there. And then when you got it running again they all started falling apart. Seen that happen a time or two

@@s1dew1nd3r4 Too late now but might help someone else, you just needed to put in some oil treatment run it up to temp and change the oil once it's cooled down. A good run will also help clean out the gunk too. Same happened when I got my ZX9r over two years ago (had sat for seven years), not slipped since and still not changed the clutch.
