This helps so much I almost thought I had to pull the engine. I haven't done work on a timing chain before so this gives me more confidence

Awesome video! If I may make a suggestion for future videos, have the camera guy hold a light or turn everything around to use the daylight from the window so we can actually see what you are talking about. Keep up the good work!

Ok so I personally was trying to decide why every video and direction on timing this engine has you install the primary tensioner in the deactivated state, then activate it once it’s in the vehicle. And I figured that out. The guide it rests on has a notch that matches the tensioner piston. If you install the tensioner in the activated state, like Al did in this video, then as you screw that tensioner in that plunger is fixed and when you torque it... it may not line up correctly with the guide seat. If you install deactivated, that plunger will eventually seat correctly by the time the tensioner is torqued because it can spin freely when deactivated. Activating is as simple as leaning on a 2.5ft prybar with some tape on the end positioned on the chain where the guide meets the tensioner, obviously from up top, just like the Cloyes video on timing this engine instructs. That is all, good luck timing.

I drop a bolt from the timing gear into the cover how is it to get out without taking off cover
@ZZPerformanceChannel
@ZZPerformanceChannel 4 месяца назад
That's going to be exceptionally difficult without taking the front cover off. You might be able to sneak a magnet down in there, but it will be like operation getting it back up and out. We would recommend taking the front cover off before damaging anything else.

It looks hard enough with the motor out I can't imagine with it in.

Can I get a video on the timing chain guide bolt? My existing one doesn't seem to match the new one? And I'm at a loss.

I have done exactly what has been shown and after all the Mark's are lined up and I activate the tensioner I turn the engine over by hand clockwise and I get lots of slack on the intake side by the fixed guide. Then if I turn the engine a little more the slack goes away but then comes right back. Everything is lined up and there is tension on the tensioner side. What is going on

Same process for the Le5?

Slightly different for the LE5 since it has the cam phasers. If you have any questions regarding the process email customerservice@zzperformance.com
