Small boat commercial fishing. I have been fishing in small commercial beach boats since I was 8 years old, my father does it, his father, and many generations before hand. Im the owner of a small beach launched vessel on the Norfolk coast. In the autumn and winter we mainly fish with drift nets for herring. Around xmas we also fish for sprats too. In the summer we catch thornback rays, bass, mackerel, mullet, sea trout, smooth hounds, dog fish, brown shrimps, brown crabs, lobsters and a few other bits and pieces using drift nets, tangle nets, longlines, jigging machines, pots and a shrimp trawl. Mostly traditional techniques that have been used for centuries, these are unfortunately dying out with the modernisation of the fishing industry, and the changes in peoples habits of eating certain species of fish. Im also an apprentice served electrical and mechanical engineer for over 25 years, so complete all of the maintenance on my boat and tractor myself.
Good video Beany love it get a boat 🚢 for the fenland fishing in the winter for some big pike with the big old floats John Wilson style hot flasks for a cup of Tea 🍵 I know Norfolk well I like Norfolk old fashioned it gets very cold on the East Coast you want a nice big fur trapper hats like a Russian style hat they are lovely and warm that old cold wind when it blows it cuts in deep very cold 🥶 indeed but all the old school Norfolk boys showed me newspaper clippings of photographs of massive pike in the winter that fishermen would catch on the dykes very interesting very best wishes to you Beany and your family from Ben Golby 👌 👍
@@bengolby-mw6ee unfortunately the pike in this part of Norfolk have been severely hammered by otters. There isn’t many monsters about anymore, mainly jacks
Would like to see a mix. You could also use some of your net caught sea baits for a bit of predator sport in the colder months when it gets to rough to launch the boat.
@@Bradford822 well you certainly done your fair share! I think it must have been Alan plane who was Secretary. My memory isn’t as good as it was, and it’s 30 years ago! Hahah
Go ahead mate, the vids are always good that you do, i'm sure you'll catch or find reasons why not but it won't be for want of trying, you're always positive so please mix it up but don't do a catch and cook with course bream, take care, Norfolk Ray
We first went around lady broad, then rowed to the far end of Rollesby, as my mate has friends there. Stopped for a drink, then rowed across Rollesby, down Ormesby and then back to Filby bridge
brilliant day out mate, last time we were there we caught some nice rudd off the boat, hired from you're man, no bream though. They used to have coot shoots on the broads where hundreds were shot and the next year would still be the same amount but the otters were kept under control then. We've also had bird flu which decimated thousands of wild birds, we have chickens, ducks and canaries and because of that it looks like any one with birds of any sort has to put it on a register, even one budgie in a cage from what I understand !! I've got a friend coming to help me and explain, similar to the rules you need for your boat and commercial fishing. Is your outboard motor(Andy I think) for hire and how much? You take care Beany, I enjoyed that vid, thanks, Norfolk Ray
It’s a hard time for the bird life now, they are getting hammered from every direction. I can remember the mallard shoots, once I pulled a knackered lab in the boat when piking
This doesn't work with double braid only single braid. That's because the core stops you poking the fid through it without separating it and doing it the long way. Thanks for showing for single braid tho.
I’ve fished a bit further down opposite Asda by the self storage place next to the foot bridge. I fished there 4 times in total and only ever had 1 whiting and the misses had 1 dog fish on our first session there. When it’s really windy there’s loads of shelter there and it’s easy to fish out of the car. It’s just a shame the fishing is so poor.
my kind off fishing chilled and relaxed ,i trmember fishing felixstowe beach one evening not a bit for 2 hrs i got a sandwich out and a coffee and rod went beserk, iwas in such a ruah to get to me rod i broke me flask and camping chair for a bloody whiting
That brought back some happy memories James, I used to fish a little further round behind the old crisp factory, the guys used to throw us kids some packs of broken crisps 😂. Up on the bend by Bure park used to be good for mullet. We also used good old lob worms for Flounders and cracking eels. There were Bass caught up there last summer mate.
This one filled me with a bit of nostalgia beany , Used to fish for eels and flounders all along there as a nipper all the time , candles in jam jars when it got dark , used garden worms and dug blood worms in the leaf mould at the old grave yard , used to get plenty of eels
They say change is as good as a rest, shame nothing caught but you tried, about 15 years ago we fished a lot further up and caught 2 flounders and a dab plus river bream and my wife caught a 2 lb perch, I don't take her anymore.! A couple of years ago a bloke told me he caught a few edible size whiting but we always got a lot of eels on the rivers, you were allowed to take them then. Most were boot laces but now and again one of about a pound would be caught for tea, my best was 3 lb up the R. Ant, did you eat yours? take care mate, thanks for the vid, Norfolk Ray
I didnt like eels, I put most of them back, or gave the to my nan. She used to jelly them. Its funny how fish will cross over the brackish areas, as flounders and bass have been caught well up river.
Good idea Beany, my wife kept losing or forgetting where the village hall key was(she's the VH secretary) one night she left it in the VH door and came home, just after midnight she remembered so she woke me to go with her to get it. The next day I cut a piece of half inch ply 6 x 4 inches and tied the key on, she's not forgotten it since!! take care, Norfolk Ray
@@raymitchell4220 good idea. We had the issue of people leaving the store room key at work in their pocket, so we cut a 6x3 inch piece of brass and fixed to it!
Back in the day Seal used to be a Club favourite, "Everybody needs to go a little bit Crazeey!' Your perseverance is admiral rable😂 Your Dad Deck hand is a Stoic legend!!
@@beanysfishing2555 did you glass the front and back first? then glass into the side of the boat also did you screw it down or was it bounded reason for asking is my longliner 2 has a soft spot and i have never done anything like this before..
How do you make a living? Luck always seems to be against you 😮 at every turn, great respect for do gooders but there is a limit to which it can be detrimental to us trying to make a living 😢
Hi,luv your videos, I've never shot pots etc fishing rod and line on boats and rocks for many years,my question is why shoot pots so far apart? To my little knowledge fish etc attract others,I'm not dissing your knowledge tis only a question best of luck your a good guy you deserve every success.
@@tonyconnolly9847 the pots are generally 100ft apart. It’s to get a good spread, so you only have the weight of one pot at a time hauling, and the next pot is still on the bottom. It also covers more ground to hopefully catch more crabs and lobsters
Thanks again for the video even though there was not a lot there it's still good to watch you so please you are doing so well now different from the day I saw you in A&E keep the videos coming
I caught a whopper of a Shad a good 10 year ago at Salthouse on Mackerel feathers. Certainly took me by surprise, keep at it mate, one of these days you will have a full net!
A local fisherman was feathering in his boat while we were having a yarn with him years ago. He had a rod with mack feathers just leaning against the gunwhale. Next minute the rod went mad, and he caught a shad 6lb ish, it was huge, I cant remember the ounces.
@@beanysfishing2555 Don't see what difference it makes personally but anyway. I tried shad myself when I caught it in a drift net off Brighton wasn't a fan I remember it was like a huge herring. Gave a few to my neighbour too dunno if he ate it. Lovely looking boats they do an 18 as well don't they?
keep at it i love watching your vlogs been a bit the same for me, every sun and wen rain so no carboots for 3 weeks, vans in having mot work,so wont get it back till thur and going to be nice wen. them hills and dails off life.
It’s been hit and miss on the beaches. Sometimes a big shoal of smith hounds come through and you get loads. These nets don’t touch the bottom, so will miss fish that are bottom feeding
