There are something wrong with your understanding of Turks head knots which is due to the way you've been taught and one of these misunderstood items is the way one finish , if you double the knot as per a foot rope knot you would start the way you do but if knot you should put the end through the middle of the knot then you can invert it to make a diamond knot Turks head which if one turns end for end is the same as the foot rope knot version both has the ends coming out on each side of the knot .
STILL the BEST tutorial around to learn Turk's head knots and pineapple interweaves! Bruce Grant's book made no sense to me as it uses a different approach than this, and it is very confusing, but this makes a lot of sense.
It would be truly embarrassing to admit how many times I watched the tiny portion of this video--at reduced speed and zoomed in--to figure out the first step in the third round...but I stuck with it and got it. Thank you very much for posting the very best Spanish Ring Knot video to be found on RU-vid (and I watched a number of them).
I have watched this a multitude of times , tide a multitude of knots but keep getting stuck going back down after exitingthrough the cross at the top or right hand side. Do I go over the PAIR or split them ?
Hey man, thanks very much for the video! I don’t care that you skipped part of it, I saw enough to learn it. I agree with your philosophy of teaching the pattern instead of the step-by-step approach. I tied it on a small flashlight grip in black with colonial blue interweave, looks sharp!
Do you sell tutorial videos? I have watched this sooooo many times and still struggle. I can't see it really well and pairs confuse me. I'm desperate to learn this art.
I love your videos and they have made a big difference for me. I am struggling with finishing this knot though. Can you please continue this video or do another one showing how to finish this knot?
Old comment, but finishing a Turk's head just involves tucking the ends under the weave. For a long one like this, you can just undo the standing end halfway up the weave and continue the working end until they meet in the middle. When you tighten this up, they should stay hidden under the weave pretty easily and the pattern should even make it hard to see where it begins/ends.
The expansion process is presented with a clear understanding and well worth watching but, the herringbone interweave starting at 10:30 leads to a dead end unless, I'm an idiot and haven't been following along properly. The poster does not respond to requests for further instruction and neither has anybody else which sucks.
You sir are a legend thank you so much for explaining the mechanics of the knot rather than just reciting a “pattern” to remember and follow, I have a shocking memory so finding something that gives logic to the movements is fantastic, thank you for sharing your skill with us! ❤️
All you had to say was "understand the flow of the knot and why it does what it does when tying." When I first heard you say that, I was having trouble learning from it, until one day it just clicked. Thanks for your time an patience man.
This is the gosh darn pineapple and it makes so much more sense with your tutorial than paracord guild's. Flow rather than trying to memorize under over patterns.
I would love to buy those books from you or get a copy, the website you referred to does not have them anymore. Please contact me and I can pay you via PayPal. I love the excellent work you are doing.
Of all the Herringbone tutorials I've watched, yours has to be top shelf. The narration and focus of the "flow" of the knot, vs. the "over x, under y" rote method is excellent advice. Bravo Zulu, m8!
That was a very good explanation and demonstration of a difficult concept . I will certainly be trying that . My only comment on the video is it would've been a lot clearer if you had taken the label off the can . Sometimes it was difficult to follow the red cord on a red label .
How would one go about making the Spanish Ring knot wider? Once the slack is removed and the knot tightened up, 550 cordage produces a ring about 13 mm wide. Using the same cordage, I'd like to bump that up to about 2 cm. Excellent tutorial, BTW!
Hopefully you are still monitoring these comments. I only started trying to tie THK relatively recently and have been trying to understand how the different types come together. I ran across your series of videos quite by accident and am excited about the discovery. Understanding the logic frees one up to create rather than imitate. The first THK I tied A 2 bight lanyard by Johnny Debt. Took awhile but as I started getting used to it (20+ tries) I began to ask more questions. I will be viewing your videos extensively. Thanks. BTW why the passion for scarlet and gold? School or military? Thanks again Donald Eshelman djecpa@aol.com
hey i noticed you corrected the video..... on a type 1 pineapple the bights are nested in the casa knot and the herringbone are nested outside the casa knot unless you are doing type2,3,4 etc etc.... then it's a whole different ball game.... great vid btw
Thank you for explaining the knot. I might be able to figure it out now. I just wasn't getting the idea from watching over and under. Very informative. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
