Wild birds with IDs and text commentary. New Sunday Morning Birds every week. I love birds and try to encourage as many different types as possible to make their home here by creating a bird-friendly landscape with water features, bird houses and native plants. Follow the birds and wildlife on my wooded hillside in eastern Tennessee and see who shows up!

I've added plants, water sources, feeders, and houses, plus I'm experimenting with habitat practices such as leaving dead trees standing, leaving leaves undisturbed, not mowing portions of the property, building brush piles, etc.

I have tried a lot of camera options for filming birds. As of 2023, I'm filming with some second hand GoPro Hero 5 Black cameras for the birds eye view closeups. I also use a Canon 6D.

Unless otherwise noted, all videos are recorded on my property in eastern Tennessee.

at 0:53 in the 08-02-2020 video - I really like that pond, do you still have that one in your yard?
@WarblerRidge
@WarblerRidge 6 дней назад
No, that one is gone. It had problems with algae. Not sure if it was because there wasn’t enough water movement or because it was in fun sun. Probably a little bit of both.

Hummingbird bath! The male cerulean warbler has a lovely color. The vireo is so fast and weird. I'd never heard of some of these birds like the vireo, the redstart, and the parula before watching your videos. And some I'd heard of but never seen. Are some cardinals fluffy and some not?
@WarblerRidge
@WarblerRidge 6 дней назад
The cardinals were just fluffed up because they had been bathing. I think they fluff out their feathers to help them dry. Thanks for watching!

Keep an eye out for them. Fall seems to be the best time to see them around here. They move around in mixed flocks. Listen for a bunch of those warbler “chip” calls. Maybe this will be the year you spot some!

I guess they were named during the spring/summer months? So part of the year the Scarlet Tanagers are yellow tanagers. So weird. And the male Summer Tanagers stay red. The bunting is cute! Splish splash, birds are taking a bath. The dove was thirsty and then gave us a close up view.

So many birds look completely different in the fall and winter. It is weird. And confusing 😄. But I think it’s also challenging and kind of fun to try and figure it all out. Thanks for watching!

WOW! I really enjoyed your videos! You have given me so many ideas! I share your love of Robins! I get so much joy watching them bathe! Their facial expressions crack me up while they are all wet! I live in the suburbs but have done so many things in my yard to naturlize it for the birds, bees and butterflies. Also have toads and frog ponds. I get such a thrill when migrating birds stop by for a quick visit!

You've motivated me to make this pond. I order all the "ingredients " yoi used:) This video is with the small pump linked in Amazon right? The under $50 mini pond?!
@WarblerRidge
@WarblerRidge 11 дней назад
This video is actually a larger water feature that uses a bigger pump. I built this one about 12 years ago, long before I started doing RU-vid, so I didn’t have any “how-to” video about making it. But people often ask about making something similar for themselves, so I made the mini pond and did the DIY video for that. Although this pond is larger, all of the birds that come to this one, including the Tanagers, also visited my mini pond. The birds seem to really be attracted to small pools like that. Good luck with your project! I hope it brings you and your birds lots of enjoyment.

I just wanted to thank you as you DIY pebble pond recently showed up in my RU-vid feed. I have now made me a pebble pond and it’s still a work in progress until I get it exactly as I want it. The birds seem a bit of afraid of it yet but have had a couple of bathers and I was most excited to see an oriole as I don’t sure them until migration starts. Again thank you for taking the time to make the DIY video.
@WarblerRidge
@WarblerRidge 11 дней назад
I’m jealous about the Oriole! One of my favorite birds but I don’t see them very often. Your birds should get used to the new pond pretty quickly. If they still seem wary of using it, make sure there are some perches nearby for them to sit on to check things out before getting in. A few branches places around the edges works well for that.

How interesting to see the Scarlet Tanagers changing color. Are they still yellow when they arrive in spring? It didn't occur to me that perhaps only folks here up north get to see them in their red plummege. The Summer Tanagers look so big compared to the other birds. I've never seen one in person. Always makes me smile when the Morning Doves show up. They're such a sweet bird. Thanks so much!! Have a lovely week!! 🥰🌿♥️
@WarblerRidge
@WarblerRidge 13 дней назад
@@meglange3595 The Scarlet Tanagers are usually fully red when they arrive here in the spring. I had one this year that still had some yellow left but that was unusual. I don’t know, though, if they are fully red before they leave their winter homes. Good question! I would guess it’s probably like the little Yellow-rumped Warblers that overwinter here. I catch a very short glimpse of them in their spring plumage before they leave and then they’re already back to the winter plumage when they return. Have a great week!
