@@Kingfisher-jr26 yes I agree, we’re not sure if we put the top in then rest the edges of the cooker on it, we will be getting to high as it could compromise the ceiling area with heat, so we’re thinking it would help if we kept it flush with the units, we will be discussing it in the next episode once it’s complete… Thanks for your input 🙏😎
Some say…. He looks like Sir Francis Drake, or even Colonel Sanders… All I know is that he can fix two broken kitchen doors in the dark and make me a roast dinner this coming Sunday 😎
Iron weights (weight lifting type) wrapped in plastic are good as ballast. To get levels correct when in water use tubs of water to work out the weight required 1ltr water = 1kg. Does the waterpump have a flow sensor built in?
@@markbridge4049 yes mark I’ve just purchased two one for internally and one for the engine bay , both have auto flow sensors , iron weights yes great idea thanks, plus they won’t take up the valuable space🤔, thanks for the advice 🙏👍
Many thanks Marcus, it sort of surprised me how easy it was, and the effect turned out great, which is what all these videos are about, if you don’t try stuff you’ll never know if you can do it or not 🤷♂️
Hi Bartverhaagen, thanks for watching,as for the tea break part, if we get an overwhelming response to not wanting the “Tea Break” then we’ll stop, seems like a fair democratic way in my opinion. Thanks again for input 👍
Good day from Bowie Texas I was watching one of your last videos on when he was rolling in tipping and I enjoyed it and I saw another one on your Q&A that says asking about someone had boats and stuff I have a 1963 Lonestar El Dorado 18 ft aluminum boat that my mom bought brand new I fixed the restore it
Hi Steve from across the pond , great to here from you, yes I’d love to get more details and possibly some pictures of the boat if you had any, I’m always interested in seeing other boats especially classic ones, so send them over to our email address and we’ll definitely feature them on the next available episode 👍😎
Hi, I'm really sorry about the quality of this video chaps and chapesses, all my fault...... The issue has now been resolved, normal service resumes in 39/2, Cheers John🥸
Cheers Markus, I’m interested in what seems to be your boat that your sailing ⛵️, if you’ve any pictures and information about you and boats, send them in to our email 👌
You should apply the resin with a stippling action, brushing will pick up the fibres and make the bond weaker. The rollers are used after to push any air out.
Hi Richie, possibly so yeah, it’s been a few years since I did that, so I’m a bit vague on remembering what the surface was like after I’d coated it, I’m pretty sure I’d of lightly sanded dry, but I’m not 100%, I’ll have a look at the back of the boat, which is still in primer from when I did the first coats, that might answer the question….. Thanks for sticking around too Richie 🙏
Well I used international paints , I found it was great, wasn’t 2pac just single top coat, I’ll be looking forward to doing it again, can’t harm increasing the coats, I’m hoping the next one should be better than the last 🤞
cooler when you did the 2nd side giving thinners more time to allow it to blend out?? 2nd side looks fab, I would have called the boat lift.. and splashed!
Yes from memory, thinning out worked a treat, however it’s all getting flatted back , wet sanding this time around, weather is improving and it won’t be long before I’ll be doing it all again, I painted first time around to soon, it’s got knocked a bit so lessen learned 🤷♂️, however I do like painting so I’m looking forward to doing again 😎
Make the toilet deeper ie width of your shoulders, I own nauticus and I have to go to toilet on an angle as my shoulders don't fit. Also thetford make a type of flush cassette toilet c220 or c223
Thanks for that Anthony, I’m looking at the c220 and c223 as I type this to you, thanks for the tip . Remember, I’m interested to see all fellow boats especially those of a Nauticus type, you can always email some pictures , email on every new episode 👌😎
Great work and progress. I have one question, where ist that small running boat gone? That was really beautifull, will we see it in a another episode? A tip for the interior design and the color, try out what the colors look like on the respective wood. I would orefer a light grey. Its timeless and you cant see the differences in the wood. And another tipp, take a look at travels with goerdie, Peter is also a passionate boat restorer. And John, you really look like the Colonel Sanders, younger and better. Looking forward to the next episode. But now I'lll trink some tea.
Markus you read my mind,I’ll show you in the next episode, we’re filming tomorrow, plus I’ll answer your question during the episode too, you’ll understand why once Mr KFC puts part two on… Travels with Geordie is one of my go to videos for a lot of things, I wish I had Peter’s skills, the only thing I’ve got in common with him is I’ve got one of his T shirts 😂… I never miss one of his episodes, great craftsmanship.
Why thankyou Markus , John and I were thinking that we’d probably lost most of our original people who used to watch us make a fool of ourselves, I guess RU-vid might be suggesting us as a possible watch again 🤞only time will tell, anyway I’m chuffed you found us again so thanks 🙏 regards Phil
Well yes, once he told me about the person I agreed with him to edit that bit out, he’s not. He has either forgot, or as I think, he’s Used to my off the cuff stuff I dish out to him on a weekly basis. He does give it back mind ! Either way I can assure you we are still Bezzie mates 😎
It's looking good so far, To be honest I thought the Port and Starboard lights had to be mounted on the side of the boat cabin? If mounting there don't forget when the mast is lowered the cable will extend longer so allow for that cable movement.
Afternoon Steven, indeed your right, you might not of realised the navigation lights are on the side of the boat, sort of near the exterior lights, I’m sure you’ll spot them, in a number of previous episodes. I thought belt and braces I’ll put more on the mast also, bit over the top, but I think they’ll look good😁👍, thanks for watching Steven, very much appreciated 👍
To be honest Mark that’s up for debate, I pulled it out of the Lancaster canal where she resided for some years, so if she did go back into a canal it would be the Lancaster. I’d like to do the lochs and the Caledonia in Scotland for her maiden voyage and continue the channel as we used her, but I’m a bit off that yet, after all it’s only 5 years plus since water has touched her hull 🫢. As for the mast, I think it’s going to look really nice once it’s had it’s vanishing……
@@philmurphy3549 it’s not Consequential when trying to find the videos, is what I’m saying, and if I’m honest, perhaps edit some of the prep and painting vids to shorten them,? Just my opinion. Otherwise I’ve found it interesting
@@SuperMickstar Right I’m with you… We did think of shortening to 10mins per episode, but I thought it would be boring as I do waffle on a bit and there would be more talk than action, I’ll definitely look into it as I’m pro advice on any kind of help, in fact ,I think in episode 34 or 35 we will have an idea that we will put to all subscribers, can’t say what yet but I think it will help us do better content…. Cheers Mickstar 👍
@@SuperMickstar Excellent , I’ve not many subscribers that do actually so it’s nice to have you as one of only a few… great boats, shame I’ve only ever used it once and then it broke down 🤷♂️. I’ll look forward to seeing yours, if fact that’s given me an idea 🤔, I might see if we can do a roll call on peoples boats by having a picture gallery….. Cheers for that Mickstar 😎
Hiya Mark, yes I agree, well overdue, but we’re back , fully committed and I’ve got my mojo back, we should be able to post new videos every week as were moving forward with the interior. Seamaster 813, nice 👌, it would be nice to see you RU-vid it, I couldn’t of done as much as I have without great restoration projects being posted. Thanks for sticking around and I hope you find something that you can use for your project dear boy 🙏
😂 I’m just pleased you hung around 🙏, yes we’re definitely back now, we have a few episodes tucked away now so hopefully we’ll be able to have some continuity, so thanks for waiting, and I am very happy to be back doing the boat 😎
Welcome back.....again. looking forward to seeing the project through. I was nearly pressing the unsub button a couple of times but happy I didn't now. All the best!
@@thekerbsidemechanic385 cheers kerbside, I wouldn’t of blamed you dear boy, it’s been along time, what with illness and all that, but fully recovered now and we’ve been putting in the hours, I’ve missed the videoing and everything about the boat, so I’ve a full tank of enthusiasm, and ideas for solving problems I’m going to come across…. Thanks once again 🙏
The alloy window frames will be annodised so don't sand them. Polish only to avoid taking the annodising off. Also don't use sealant between frames and GRP, instead use close cell foam tape. Seals direct for seals
Hi Peter, we’re currently working on the episode,s , we’ve decided to get some done, so we’ve a buffer, I’ve put aside everything for 2024 in which I will complete the boat, health is nearly back to normal and John and I are chopping on the bit to get back on the boat … Thanks for hanging on Peter 😎🍻
Agonizing to see you work that slowly. After painting that bit under the teak with a brush use a 7” foam roller with only enough paint to do about 3’ from top to bottom. Do it quickly. Then come back over it with the roller slowly enough and lightly enough to not cause bubbles. May have to blend that bit under the teak with a brush. Put more paint on your roller and continue like that. It’s like painting a wall, not like painting the Mona Lisa. Speed is important with most paint. Take the tape off as soon as you’re done the last coat, because it can take dried paint with it. If painting outside, what tape you use is important, because not all painter’s tape holds up to the sun as advertised. Test the tape first.
@@philmurphy3549 yes-just want to let others know how to do it and not be afraid to do it. I’ve painted hulls for many years-it’s easy peasy. I paint mine from a raft. Decks are a bitch.
@@susanc.8009 that’s good to know, trust me some of the other episodes are more comical and less boring, although I have to say, it was slow but really really satisfying, and yes I had lots of time on my hands too, the masking tape did come off ok as I used from memory a good grade, fortunately the boat is still inside so I’ve the luxury of being able to not have weather issues, the deck I’ve not done yet, more episodes are in the pipeline, just have to get some enthusiasm to get back at it…. Thanks for your input 👍 Regards Phil
Can you advise please on the primer please? The video starts with that already done, I see you use International TopLac. Did you use a Gelshield under the primer direct onto the old Gelcoat? Thanks
Hi Simon, sorry for the delay I couldn’t remember which undercoat I used so I nipped to the warehouse to find out, it’s called Interlux Pre coat, colour 4280 grey. Hope that’s what you need dear boy 👍
Hiya Ballygarran, at the time I was ready to paint, I didn’t have a compressor or spray gear, so I went for the rolling and tipping, I’m actually thinking of flatting the hull off and having a go at spraying it also as I think it would make a good episode plus it would show the two options, I’ve now got the spraying equipment plus, I’ve plenty of time on my hands haha! Regards to you my Friend 🇮🇪
@@philmurphy3549 thanks for your answer. I’ve never owned a boat but for some reason my wife has fallen in love with the idea so it looks like I’ll have a new project some time in the foreseeable. It will have to be something that needs a fair bit of work as we have a small budget. So your video diary is absolutely fantastic. I’ve watched the first 9 episodes tonight but it’s off to bed and I’ll catch up with the others tomorrow whilst the wife watches some rubbish on Netflix. All the best from Co Galway
@@ballygarran thanks for your kind words dear boy, Remember, if you do get yourself a little project, very little is off the shelf, and it’s going to test your patience and D I Y skills, oh and rather deep pockets too. Well I better get on with some more episodes if your upto number 9 …. 🙋♂️🇮🇪🇮🇪
@@ballygarran yes more videos to come, just need to get filming, John ( cameraman) , hopefully will be able to do some more filming soon, I think we are on episode 31 at the moment. 👍
Hiya bill, to be honest I’ve not got around to actually getting the windows back in, my seals were in very poor condition, all were leaking, I think replacing them is the only option dear boy. Sealsdirect on line are my option as they will send you samples plus a really good book on all the types on offer . Hope that helps Bill
Hi Phil Hope you are better I too had a bad time with Covid I was a RN in NY . I’m using total boat wet edge and getting lines , it flattens out however still lines from the brush. When yo we’re done did you have some lines from the brush?Any suggestions ? I’m going to roll and leave it, she’s an old boat from 1988 the fish won’t care and I believe it will be an easy repair. You did a great job mate😁
Hiya Dennis, it’s a bugger that Covid, not fully over it as yet but, hay ho …. Did you thin it out a bit, not much though…. I found that by thinning it out help me put the paint on and also it glazed over better too, also depends on your climate and when you did it Dennis, hope that helps matey
@@philmurphy3549 yes sir between 5-10%. Temp and humidity were well with in range😀 found a different 2part poly called Alexseal looks amazing … im going to try it on the transom … just to see if it’s what it claims to be…all in all wet edge came out OK rolled with no tipping …that other paint has a roller additive that allows for rolling no tipping and a finish as good as a spray job…as for COVID my nerves took a hit and are not back to where they were speech still somewhat impaired … however it’s better than it was I am thankful for that
Depends on where you live I’d say, obviously I purchased the paint from my local marine supply store, you may have one near you, they are world wide I think so maybe google International boat paints and see if they have a distribution company near you Theo. The brush and roller I bought from my local DIY shop
Hi Theo, it’s a product by International boat paint, “TopLac”, depending on where you’re living and the time you’re going to paint it, I’d use a little white spirit to thin it out if it’s a hot climate, if not, stir well and off you go 👍🍻
