Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy interviews, clips, radio shows and source material documenting the fact that the two had a lifelong romance despite apparently happy marriages to others. Some of the information here was utilized in the writing of the MacDonald-Eddy biography "Sweethearts" by Sharon Rich.
Tragic lives. Eternal rest. Only curious after hearing a cartoon whale. Not into film actor lives beyond checking as few able to not divorce. They achieved that by deception. Actors.. surprised but not surprised served as a spy. War makes some think there are no consequences of heaven or hell, but without it, anything is permissible. Film message in Return From Ashes 1965 with Maximillian Schell.
So-Called "Gene Raymond" wasn't even his real name. He was born Raymond Guion. He obviously sold-out his birth name to the greedy & deceitful 'Hollywood' and anticipation of greater recognition & money. It also implies parental & heritage disrespect.
Nelson was last because he wanted his welling emotions to be shared with her corpse, alone, unseen, undisturbed, She was his greatest friend. His life revolved around this woman.
Al Caiazza, the boy in this show, was interviewed and also attended a couple MacDonald-Eddy luncheons. You can read a transcript of his interview here: maceddy.com/al-caiazza-interview/

Translation: Nelson!! It’s an extraordinary timbre; I saw it for the first time in a film. Spring days, I fell in love for life. Our whole country was in love with him. I was 14 years old then. I dreamed about him at night, he sang to me. And recently, in a dream, I dreamed that I was telling him what I like (now I’m 86 years old. Many years ago I received an autographed photo from him, as well as a photo from Jeanette herself. They wrote about this event in our newspaper. But I can’t find his video solo concert. I’m waiting for a response to, classmates, , Zhemchugova Butyrskaya. I will be very grateful. Thank you.
We sincerely hope that footage survived and some day it may surface. As of the mid 1950s, Nelson stated that MGM still had it and was screening it to see what might be done with it.
Absolutely incredible to watch Nelson sing a duet without being all over the leading lady. Interesting indeed. Must like his usual duet partner pretty well.
According to letters from the 1940s, she had 7 psychiatrists ready to testify in court about her emotional problems, thus stopping Nelson from being able to instigate a divorce himself.
Thank you. This is great to hear the singing voice of my favorite singing star, Jane Powell, in the early years of her.career. Her talent and great singing voice is clearly evident.
Wow what a nice surprise I graduated H.S. that year what a treat for all those merry makers always loved Guy Lombardo sweetest music this side of heaven ❤️
I'd rather listen to Sharon speak about her book / contents. The host wants to steer the convo off topic and his intro was awful. We didn't need to spend time listening to his first date. wow.
I've heard that Robert Wise wanted Jeanette for "The Sound of Music" to play Mother Superior. If that's true - what a shame it didn't happen. Would have been a glorious cap to her career.
Unlike some posters, I think he looks good - fresh off a plane flight and he’s full of beans. As a 64 year old myself I reckon he was terrific here; obviously not the Nelson of his prime in the movies, but still just lovely. Hard to believe he was so soon to leave us, but at least he went out as he wanted and full of hope for a new generation of fans.

Neither Jeanette or Nelson truly found a place for themselves in television. They each did proposed pilots like this one (Nelson did "Nelson Eddy's Backyard" a few years earlier). But Nelson found a more comfortable role for himself in nightclubs, where he could continue the lifestyle he preferred as he had in his post-MGM concert years, with constant traveling and being away from his legal wife for many months of each year. Jeanette wasn't well enough to deal with a grueling nightclub schedule as by 1956 she'd already suffered a few heart attacks, one onstage while she was starring in a summer stock production of "The King & I".
