Xbox has had to carry so much garbage along the way since the fateful E3 2013. Apart from the fact that Sony took advantage of the situation by publicly mocking, even one of Sony's people laughed when the public applauded the solid policies of the PS4, assuming that Xbox One is doomed to failure even before its release. Xbox's current problem remains the same, in the same period in which they sold Xbox Series X/S it was doomed because in that same period Ps5 and Switch had a better pace. And not only that, Xbox Series X/S still has DRM in single-player games, so they lost the generation there and the consequences are even worse than those of Xbox One. Phil Spencer was never a good CEO, he even condemned the brand for the lack of jewelry and games with 90% bad or mixed grades, and Sarah Bond won't do a good job either if they make Gamepass have invasive ads, which is why I quickly switched to Playstation and Nintendo when I heard the news about this. Xbox to win the generation is to stop buying studios and better manage the ones it already has, not to fall too much in love with Gamepass, know what it is to make video games so as not to end up with messes like Redfall and Crackdown 3, and above all, eliminating DRM in games, and above all knowing how to promote the brand better.
Exactly what he said! Microsoft alienated much of their own userbase in the build-up to the launch of the XBox One - They're currently working from far back in the pack, though the innovation they are bringing to the space is as interesting as it is at times terrifying!
It's also worth noting that while they're making changes and doing some good things, they still keep making tactical errors and releasing underwhelming products. I actually want Xbox to do well to serve as a counterbalance to Sony. But I'm also not going to pretend for the sake of Xbox fans that they're doing just as well as Sony right now.
I am surprised that Xbox still exists. It is good to have competition, and in that way I am glad they are sticking it out. But, Xbox is not necessary, and I don't think it would make any difference if Microsoft gave up.
Yea competition is very healthy and makes the industry better. Game Pass is the reason why those PS Plus tiers and cloud exist. Competition is a tide that raises all boats.
So many features that PlayStation users love is a direct response to xbox putting those features on their platform first. Ps players benefit from xboxs efforts to try and entice consumers to their platform, causing the competition(PlayStation) to respond with their own version to keep their own customers from thinking the grass is greener on the other side.
Both things can be true at once.. PS def gets special treatment. N if Starfield was a Sony exclusive i think it would be better received. But its not GOTY on any platform. Imo tho xbox biggest problem is xbox. I have both consoles and love xbox but they need to get it together
Yeah. Also biases sometimes exist for a reason. So the question to ask is has Xbox done something to earn a negative bias. Considering they used to dominate the field but keep talking L's lately makes me more inclined to believe it's for a reason. Yours is probably one of the best takes I've heard on this. It's clearly all big gaming companies are held to a different standard, by the industry but also by the public (though those might not always agree). Sony definitely gets a lot of undeserved praise but that also tends to happen to the industry leader. And like you said, people do like kicking a dog when it's down. During the PS3/360 era, people kicked Sony. Now it's Xbox. There's no grand conspiracy. People just think about different companies differently. You can't draw an equivalence between them.
I did notice more negative articles and news pieces on Xbox than we do for sony. Surface level research was done for this video trying to debunk the tax.....I'm not sure of it's real but I do know there are some types of bias from individuals at these news sites.
Xbox is so irrelivant here in Sweden there is no interrest in that platform... All my friends is in PC or PS5, Is there any chance for Xbox to gain market??
They haven't remained in last place. You forget the 360. They've fallen back to it. Just a nitpick. Good video. I agree. I actually want Xbox to do well because we've seen what happens when Sony gets too big. But I'm also not going to pretend Xbox hasn't been taking a bunch of L's lately. I don't think it helps Xbox to sugarcoat the position they're in. Though there's hope since they do seem to be making some positive changes.
I believe there is some bias and that bias you can largely see in Metacritic reviews where Xbox gets significantly fewer reviews for first-party and third-party games. HiFi Rush, for example. Shadow dropped, was Xbox's first game since Halo Infinite, Bethesda's first game that launched on Xbox, as an exclusive, and their first new IP all since the acquisition. The game was a viral hit, fun and innovative in both the rhythm games genre and the hack and slash genre, but it only got 63 reviews. It got 56 scored reviews with the rest being unscored IGN US didn't review it of all other IGN branches, Game Informer didn't review it, and Kotaku didn't even finish their review of the game but it would have gone unscored anyway. Redfall has(slightly) more reviews, but every week you get the same doom posting about Redfall, about Xbox, even going as far as to say Xbox should abandon the IP(like Bleeding Edge) to where Pete Hines had to say they won't, and they didn't have the same energy telling people how good HiFi Rush was and we didn't stop hearing about Redfall until Starfield, now they do the same to Starfield. Forspoken, on the other hand, got 131 reviews, more than both games combined and while it did get slammed for largely just being boring, the outlets didn't go too hard on it beyond how it was just a disappointment. While one could argue that HFR still got a better score, the score is not the point. The point is how all of 2022, Xbox gets cooked by the media for not having games, that the games that were released got delayed, or Xbox's mixed messaging about their "next 12 months" spiel in which they over promised and underdelivered. All fair and valid, and yet the one game that comes out, a brand new fresh idea from Tango Gameworks, shadow dropping into game pass day and date so so subbers can play for free, this same media pays it little attention. The good, high-quality game got little attention, but the bad low-quality game gets shat on for months.
People like to kick a wounded dog for some reason. Xbox is that wounded dog. But it cannot be ignored that Starfield is underwhelming and boring. Starfield wasnt snubbed, it didnt earn the nominations. I dont think the Xbox tax exists. At this point, I am happy to have game pass, I would be really upset paying for some of these games lately.
