I’ve recently gotten the manga for it after I saw The teacher on Pinterest a while back ago, I never read it because I’m not to big into books but I let my girlfriend borrow my set and she’s in love with the story and characters. She just finished it today and she told me she was in tears
Drew a female Shoto Todoroki "I like my new artstyle" then watched MHA "Wait she looks exactly like Todoroki?" Me finding out it is a copy, scruched it up rolled it up into a ball thew it in the trash can.
Horikoshi really carried WSJ on his back for 10 years, i hope some other ppl reach his potential n lighten the load of appeasing the weekly format. Cuz Gege n Fujimoto were far behind in quality during the later end of MHA shelf life
PEAK. Ever since MHA ended, i went down a rabbit hole into the only thing i've ever had any interest in this manga: the art! Say what you will about the story, but Horikoshi is the greatest art in modern jump. And now the goat drops The Evolution of Art in Naruto Part 2. Thanks for the great video, bro.
My hero academia is currently my favourite series, I'm following the series through the anime and my god this current season has been amazing. I have mostly seen your Naruto related content for the most part but seeing you make a My hero academia video is so heartwarming and beautiful. I hope to see more content like this in the future.
I really appreciate the time you took to make this video, im one of those people who thinks Boruto as a series shouldn’t exist and its an excuse to cash in on Naruto’s brand name I liked how Kishimoto set it up in the Boruto movie how things are different for the new generation since Naruto and Sasuke ended the Ashura and Indra neverending cycle, we can see it a bit in how Boruto is following Sasuke’s footsteps and Sarada is doing the same with Naruto and Mitsuki is the wildcard and team 7 is in good terms But then i thought Mitsuki is just the new Sasuke and Momoshiki is the new Kyuubi and i dropped the series Turns out im wrong and the story so far isn’t a complete retread of Naruto 😅 I think you forgot to mention that Boruto got his own eye ability in the form of Jougan
The entire video I was just thinking about THAT set of All for One panels where (light spoilers) it shows him controlling everything with all the small panels behind him, while he's at the front of the page with his arms and fingers stretched wide, lamenting how his brother always got past his grasp despite him having everything (then it ends with All Might blowing his head off)
The art in mha is so good you could find moments or fights that give you such a wide array of incredible imagery yet it fits so naturally into the story that it grips you intensely. The final arc especially is a tour de force of intense emotional imagery at moments that are absolutely beautiful and hard to come by in many other shonen as frequently. As someone who geeks out over stuff imagery and visual symbolism, I loved it. You could write an entire essay alone on the visual progress of Shigaraki's design over the course of series and how it ties bar for bar with his development in the narrative. Such a way with telling a story through visuals alone.
Thank you! Glad you liked the video! And yeah I love that art piece he did. Hope he does more artwork of other Jump characters in the future. Everything always looks so amazing in his art style.
I've always loved the art style of naruto and my hero academia, loved your video on the evolution of the art in naruto. This one was another banger video! I'm making my own manga and my art style is inspired by both. Sometimes I reference your videos when I'm working so I appreciate the work you do in analyzing these great manga artists!
I am goona miss horikoshis artstyle. i have been reading mha after watching s1 and i was genually impressed of his drawings. The attention to detail and able to make some panels impactful and powerful. This show will live rent free in my memory as one my fav of the new generation anime and unlike most i genually really liked the ending. excited to see his next work!
Great video. Cool to learn the actual artistic explanations for Hori's change of style, which definitely worked better for the latter parts of the story.
Wow, I absolutely loved this video I recently got into mha because it was ending and I remember so many times just being floored by how amazing the art and panels for mha was, it just is able to make you feel the emotion or weight of the story just by looking at the page
It’s kinda crazy I just watched your Naruto art vid yesterday and the stream with Broken Ronen a while back so when I saw that you were making a my hero vid I was hoping it was going to be about the art
The art is basically the reason why even though MHA's ending was about as controversial as JJK or KNY, everyone is across the board far more interested in what Horikoshi will do next, even those that preferred one of the other series. It's interesting how the characters got way buffer physically and explosive with their moves, while becoming more rounded and less angular. Kind of the opposite to Toriyama's approach with late Dragonball.
Been very busy this year so my upload schedule is all over the place 😅 But I'm always working on something in the background no matter how long I take! Hopefully next year I'll have more time on my hands!
I've been aware of Horikoshi since Barrage. (As short lived as that series was...) His art is truely one of a kind. + he loves spiderman so I have to dap him up on site
Incredible video like always. It’s amazing to see you talk about another series alongside Naruto. My Hero Academia is definitely my favourite out of all the New Gen series for Shonen Jump. I remember when I got into the series back in 2019, the series was insanely popular and one of the biggest anime and manga series around and I still love it. I’ve always been impressed with Horikoshi’s work because his style looked a lot smoother than other manga artists’ work. As a gigantic superhero fan, it was especially incredible to see him draw inspiration from American superheroes. He’s said Spider-Man, Superman and Deadpool are some of his favourites and you can definitely tell with Midoriya being like Spider-Man, All Might being like Superman and Twice being like Deadpool. Not only have I seen My Hero Academia, but I also own both copies of his series before it called Barrage and, while the story in that wasn’t anything special or anything, his artwork in it was fantastic and it was incredible to see it and know he started My Hero Academia afterwards and so that early My Hero Academia art style was very obvious when looking at it. I’ve also been impressed with how fast Horikoshi did the volume releases with having at least four or five volumes come out in one year a while back. It quickly became my favourite series to look forward to getting the volumes for along with the One Piece omnibuses and so on. Speaking of One Piece, I also love Horikoshi’s collaboration with other manga artists, especially Eiichiro Oda and how Oda even one saved a fan made drawing of One Piece Horikoshi did before starting My Hero Academia and Oda even saved it for an interview between the two of them. It was made even more amazing when I found out Horikoshi has said his four favourite mangas and his four biggest inspirations were Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto and Akira. Horikoshi’s also one of the few manga artists who’s style doesn’t change that much but it’s still incredible. Unlike some other manga artists who’s work changes in very obvious ways later on, Horikoshi’s doesn’t even if it is obvious over time. Unlike some other mangas where the art can look kinda weird at the start because the artist is still figuring out their style, even some of the best ever like Berserk, My Hero Academia is amazing to see from the very beginning. While I was slightly disappointed by the ending of the series, it was still incredibly satisfying and an amazing conclusion to the series I had been following for years. I’m super excited to see if Horikoshi creates a new series and I’m especially really excited to finish collecting the last of the volumes and see what the last volume looks like, especially if they ever make omnibuses for the series, which I would absolutely love if they do.
Appreciate you checking out the video and I'm glad you enjoyed it! For sure, it's really cool seeing all the inspiration Horikoshi has taken especially when it's obvious to pick up on. I do plan to check out Barrage at some point, but I'm looking forward to whatever series he releases next! He'll always cook with the art no matter what.
My interpretation of the transition in styles and the major points are Overhaul is when he starts taking a far more detailed approach, maybe to an extremity Then he reels it back slightly during Cultural Festival-Joint Training, it maintains that detail but Horikoshi makes an intentional decision to make the designs more stylized like they were before He finds a strong Balance from My Villain Academia - Villain Hunt I think the final transition starts from the stars and stripes arc where his health got to him, but it led to a new approach hes less restricted by his style and plays around with drawing his characters in a spectrum of super stylized to a more realism approach he essentially jumps in this spectrum and it allows a more unique approach and allows for more volatile and potent impact since his style becomes a bit less predictable
