Hi!! I'm Aleese, a black American living as an expat in Beijing, China. I vlog about my life abroad, solo female travel, and natural hair!
I've been living in China for 5 years and work as an ESL teacher here. I try to balance giving tips for living, teaching or traveling in China, with just everyday life adventures :)
Thanks for checking out my channel!

Landed to your channel like 2 hours ago, and can't stop watching all your videos! You are so lovely and just "my vibe" person! Hope to move to China pretty soon 🎉
Now, seeing this, I am completely intrigued at your abilities and your intelligence. I like to see you in your natural atmosphere. This is great. You’re a soldier for sure. Where are you now?
I linked my Mastercard (Belgium) to my Alipay account and it doesn’t work to make payments, my boyfriend has the same card and it works for him😢 any advice?
I'm a foreigner that doesn't look like a foreigner so it's really awkward for me even if I tell them that I can't speak Chinese (in Mandarin). But I've used Baidu whenever I travel and I learned some basic words and sentences to help me communicate. I travel to smaller rural areas around Sichuan like Bazhong and Dazhou. I don't know how I survived but it was really fun
I admire your adventurous spirit. It’s one thing to move to Europe. Moving to China is waaaaay different. Hats off to you for teaching. Enjoy your journey young lady.
Another creator recently posted a similar video, and said that although you do not explicitly need a teaching license to work in China, you now can only work in Kindergartens without the license. He said you can come to China, start in a kindergarten, work on the license from China, and then move up the ranks after you complete it. Thoughts?
I worked as an activity leader with Chinese students at a TEFL summer school and they were an absolute joy to work with. Very well behaved and always respected the rules. I enjoyed my experience so much that I’m considering teaching English in China in the future! I loved how inquisitive the students were. They were eager to learn about the UK and excited to teach me about Chinese culture. The only negative was that many of them would spend WAY too much time on their phones, especially considering that they were abroad for the first time and everything was new and different. It was concerning that some of the students were still more interested in a silly little game on a tiny screen than exploring a new country!!
Excellent video! (( coming in two years too late! )) I just deep dive into your videos and DREAM of visiting China one day! Thank you for excellent content as always! 🥰🙏👏🐼🎋🍲🥢🏯
Hello! Love your video! I'm considering moving to China to teach. Is it easy to send money back to your U.S. bank account? Is it expensive or high-risk? It was a nightmare when I lived in Vietnam! The fees ranged from $15-45! I'm an American educator with 12 years of international teaching experience. I currently tutor students privately online. Much obliged! Also, what are the classrooms like? Do they use AC in summer and proper heating in winter? Sadly, I ask because in Vietnam, they believed too much AC was bad for your health. We were sweating like pigs and one woman nearly passed out! Thank you for taking the time to answer. BTW- I have WeChat & Xiaohungshu in case there are any groups you'd recommend to connect with other foreigners. I'm interested in Chengdu and Chongqing.
