Yall got real, book a consult with Aleese if you’re interested in teaching in China. She was insanely helpful, insightful and just all around a lovely person. Nobody keeps it realer than her ❤🔥
NOT TRUE! Just because in this video you don't see students acting rude or bad doesn't mean it doesn't happen. It happens often. Teenagers are hormonal and rebellious and rude everywhere in the world.
Your class is engaging my friend! And you teach them not just English reading and writing but about the culture. Which is important for them since they don’t have many chances to make foreign friends.
I teach choir and drama with lots of events outside of class. I have worked 6 weeks without a single day off. Exactly, the lesson planning is intense. Not new to teaching. But I think many do not understand all the behind-the-scenes or extra work in teaching. 😂 GO teachers! 🎉❤
Well said!!! Many have no clue the amount of work we got!! Summer break is ALMOST here for us to rest and recover!! Wishing you a healthy work life balance next school year!
All committed and dedicated teachers work hard everywhere in the world. The only difference is how the students and the parents treat you that makes the difference whether you are happy in the job or not.
In China it really depends on the school and the location of your school! I never understand how students are not allowed to have their phones at all in my school -- they are supposed to be "locked up" yet everyday they got so many food deliveries waiting for them!
The Kendrick and Drake beef made it all the way to China?! 😅😂 The young man may have a future in producing and they seem to ❤ you as their teacher. Tfs
aww I love your vieos, what a vibe!! 😄I didn't know you have such a large workload tho, but you're killing it!! Your students are lucky to have you as their drama teacher. Greetings from Guangzhou, fellow English teacher here☺
Now, seeing this, I am completely intrigued at your abilities and your intelligence. What you are doing iis great. You’re a soldier for sure. Where are you now?
In my 14 years as a teacher, lesson planning and grading has always been the most time consuming and difficult part. In Australia here I am scheduled with kids all day long and I teach five different subjects so all the planning and marking happens at home. Its absolutely exhausting., And yep, weekends too. I'm moving to China in a couple of months and my schedule has built in time to ensure I can do those things during work hours. I can't wait, it's going to be a game changer.
I worked as an activity leader with Chinese students at a TEFL summer school and they were an absolute joy to work with. Very well behaved and always respected the rules. I enjoyed my experience so much that I’m considering teaching English in China in the future! I loved how inquisitive the students were. They were eager to learn about the UK and excited to teach me about Chinese culture. The only negative was that many of them would spend WAY too much time on their phones, especially considering that they were abroad for the first time and everything was new and different. It was concerning that some of the students were still more interested in a silly little game on a tiny screen than exploring a new country!!
I am really happy for you, Aleese. You seemed to have found your "magic" again. I remember how stressfull and mentally draining it was for you when you first moved to Chengdu. Keep on going girl, you got this. Lots of ❤
Thank you! I must say, I'm still very stressed and drained and this job is the cause of a lot of that🫠 I think I just have learned how to cope with the BS better than I was before.
Thanks for the uplifting video! For clarity to any teachers considering coming to China, this school seems quite different from other international schools in the country. The tech would be better, you'd have a proper curriculum, the canteen would be good, the working hours would be less, and there would be a greater focus on an English-only environment.
Thanks for your input. I don't think the working hours would be less....most schools have a minimum requirement of 20-25 teach hours per week. I also think the canteen situation is personal preference.
Requesting for your next group China trip to be scheduled in late December or early June for us educatos who watch. I couldn't participate in August because you start the tour exactly on the first day of my new school year. I hope you and the people lucky to join you in August post plenty of content. I know its going to fun.
Thanks for your input!! It's really tough to schedule because I have to go based on my current schedule. In China, school is out in July or end of June usually. Then December there is no break, so I can't take a week off to travel! Also in the summer, I also want to go home for a month, so it's rough to schedule!
@AleeseLightyear thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. Completely understand - I solo travel a lot because my friends aren't in education, and my vacation schedule never really aligns with theirs. I'll book a consultation with you soon about ideas for a self guided trip to China next June. I wish you the best in peace and happiness.
Wow. What an insight into your everyday. As a teacher, it’s not easy. So much planning and preparing and then marking. Such a big responsibility to be planning subject matter for students. I’m chickening out now, I thought teaching could be fun but it looks quite intense 😳 great kids and funny characters. Loved your video regardless Aleese ❤️
I know NOTHING about drama, but I love that your class encourages creativity in your students (at least for those who don't plagiarize)!! Food looks delicious too! Well done!
Ms. A!. Not the student with the Chinese R&B song ...lol. You are doing great things, setting rules and ethics and having fun. What a nice tutorial. Really glad you mentioned ChatGPT. The new and ongoing nightmare of all teachers globally. 🧡🧡
Soooo many issues with Chat GPT in schools. At this point, we just need to start teaching students the correct ways to use it and allow them to use it within certain restrictions cus it's not going anywhere! It's just ridiculous when some of my students will use it to write poetry or essays and it comes out sounding super robotic with all types of words and phrases they can't understand but then teens love to lie and say they wrote it themselves!
love your videos. you helped me by answering some questions when I was thinking about coming to China. I start my 3rd year in Guangzhou this year! thanks for your videos & being super responsive. so helpful!
Just subscribed. Thank you for this video! Enjoyed watching every minute of it. I’m a teacher in California so it was nice to see how it’s done in China. Thank you for doing such a great job! It seems like you are incorporating all sorts of engaging activities. I appreciate you providing quality education. Shows that you really care about what you do & for the kids
I would love to be in your class if I were young again! You have such great positive vibe, and it looks like your students enjoy you. Your free spirit boogie style should be good for the Chinese kids. I am sure they are inspired by your creative approach!👍👍👍
I love how you get along with the students and your teaching style. Amazing and beautiful❤. Any tips on how I can teach my Chinese friend English language online?
I'm sorry, did you say mandatory nap time?! lol time to end my contract here Korea and go work in China 😂the way my friends and I used to joke around saying we wish we had a nap time at work, mainly because the kindergarteners we teach be wildin over here 😂 but it is so interesting that China has this. Is this for all schools in China or just some? Awesome video by the way! I've been enjoying your content!😊
hahahah It was very random! I saw that on her desk she made a lot of them and when I complimented them she decided to give me some the next day! Usually students will give you gifts on Teacher's Day in September, but I don't usually receive gifts from them on other days
hahahha OF course it did!! Very viral on the hip hop side of Chinese Tik Tok. The upper classmen were demanding for me to play the songs in class! I don't think they understand the nuances or cultural context but they understand the basic reasons as to why they are beefing.
As it mentions in the beginning of the video, since it’s international high I assume they all going abroad for college so they naturally give up on attending gaokao
uh, not Wagas! I worked there for a brief time this year, the worst experience ever, I hated everything about them, they're a scam! Everyone except for the manager is part-time, so no insurance whatsoever, but you work as a full time employee. They promise you 5000-7000 salary, but that's only in theory, the actual salary is much less, and it's super exhausting, always million things to do, like no time to rest at all. That's why they're constantly hiring, cuz most people don't last long, I hope they bankrupt, but that's not happening anytime soon.
